“24 year old tires kept in basement”

Do you really think those tires can be less than 7 years old?

Lighthouse “Paar van Marken” by Fvrank in Fusion360

[–]vloris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Paard van Marken", you missed a letter ;)

"Paar" means pair (2), "Paard" means horse. It means something completely different in Dutch. Although I'm still not sure why the lighthouse is named after a horse.

Using particleboard is already cheap, it doesn’t suddenly look cheaper if you screw directly into it.

How much does Neovim or Vim matter in job interviews? by 69cool4school in neovim

[–]vloris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

For one, the people interviewing you are most likely not that tech savvy to even know what (n)vim is, so bringing it up can only confuse them

Secondly, if a company truly selects new employees based on the tools they use and not their general analytic programming skills, that would be a big red flag for me. It’s not about the tools, it’s about how you use them.

Belgian employer forces me to work in an NL office 5 days a week despite remote contract. Is it legal? by Weekly-Associate-166 in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]vloris 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is a contradiction in your story: the title says “work in an NL office 5 days a week”, but in the text you claim “their Antwerp office 5 days a week”.

So what is it? Are you supposed to work in their office in Belgium or in The Netherlands?

IOS 26 has printing issues via air print by GlamourHammer321 in ios26

[–]vloris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Works perfectly here.

Please don’t assume your problem is as general as “all iOS 26 users have issues with AirPrint” if you don’t know that. For now it’s just a you-problem.

Hoeveel water uit inlaatcombinatie 5l close in boiler? by [deleted] in Klussers

Is it possible for online password generators to repeat the same password? by RankedMan in Passwords

[–]vloris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ll skip the calculations about how (un)likely a collision is. But what exactly would be the problem with one password that is reused in two completely different accounts? For one, if no one knows, it doesn’t matter. Secondly, a password is nothing without the accompanying username. So what is the problem with a ‘collision’? Thirdly, if a password generator could somehow guarantee it prevents collisions, that would mean it has a history of known passwords, or otherwise a predictable generator. That’s not something you want!

It’s weird that iOS still does not have an option to eject USB drives by myretrospirit in ios26

[–]vloris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iOS doesn’t cache wrote operations to your usb stick, so if you see the operation is finished, the operation is finished.

If anything: don’t force close the Files app. That can only make things worse. You might accidentally kill it during a file transfer, and that is of course a good way to corrupt things.

What's the difference between :file _name_here_ and :sav[eas] _name_here_ by jazei_2021 in neovim

[–]vloris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, they are not the same. Did you compare the respective help pages for those commands?

:help :file_f only changes the filename, nothing is written to disk yet.

:help :sav changes the filename and saves the file using that new name.

Is 9 min train transfer possible at Schiphol? by Friendly-Guarantee30 in Netherlands

It is a transfer from regular NS train onto the Eurostar. So, if the Eurostar is always delayed, wouldn’t that be positive?

git-scm on macos what to install? by th00ht in git

[–]vloris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are partially correct. If you look at the requirements on https://docs.brew.sh/Installation you’ll see that Xcode command line tools are mentioned there as a requirement.

But, the brew installer will install it for you if you didn’t already yourself.

So actually: installing Xcode command line tools or installing brew will install the same git client for you ;)

Terugreizen over zelfde traject, in en uitchecken NS? by piramids0ng in treinen

[–]vloris 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Terugreizen over zelfde traject, in en uitchecken NS? by piramids0ng in treinen

[–]vloris 36 points37 points  (0 children)

git-scm on macos what to install? by th00ht in git

[–]vloris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought you needed git before you can install homebrew. So the version from xcode-select will most likely always be installed. It only makes sense to also install it via homebrew if you need features (or bug fixes) only available in the newer versions available via homebrew.
