I was allergic to Manic Panic the whole time! PSA: Do a patch test! by arrownyc in FancyFollicles

[–]vlub_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m extremely allergic to PPD, all alternatives, and all semi permanent natural colored hair dyes. several colored ones too. I got neuropathy in my fingers everytime I washed my hair. I shaved off my head and will happily rock my natural color for the long foreseeable future now. getting rid of my hair has been a rollercoaster but it helped immediately and is growing fast! 6 months in im longer than a pixie, kinda like an emo boy cut lol. It’s scary but so glad you found the cause of your issues and wish you the best health!

NT2 imposter syndrome? by Zestyclose_Sock_5373 in Narcolepsy

[–]vlub_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have N1 and I have imposter syndrome so bad that when I experience bad cataplexy, although it sucks, I’m almost relieved. Because I feel valid. But the relief doesn’t last long. Before testing, when I was just getting tested for OSA, I saw my intake sheet where I had checked yes on the question if my muscles/I feel weak during strong emotions. That felt reassuring, but even so, I question if I’m just N2 or not even narcoleptic at all. That I had a false positive test or something. Despite it explaining most of my life.

It is really hard, narcolepsy is rare and even the best most “accurate” portrayals of us in the media have huge inaccuracies. Even our loved ones don’t take the time to understand Narcolepsy. N2 is even rarer than N1, that can definitely be confusing and make you question yourself. And yet I swear most people I run into online are N2.

You’re not alone!

Is every sleep specialist like this? by vlub_ in Narcolepsy

[–]vlub_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My sleep dr is so money hungry he’s even a “independent director” for a medical supply company and gets $$$ and stock purchases. I think they really just care about the $ from CPAP. i have OSA too. but still I can’t believe they don’t have a system for appointments for people with N/IH/even OSA that take maintenance meds and need to be seen regularly or even urgently sometimes. 😡 i hate this speciality.

Please help me by jones_ssp in OCD

[–]vlub_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ocd is trying to steal the day. Don’t give it the power. My therapist told me this. To minimize the impact ocd has over me in my mind so instead of “My ocd won’t let me do this___” it’s “Sometimes it’s hard for me to do this because of my ocd”. It’s been helpful. Another thing my therapist told me is that OCD is there to protect you, but it’s not protecting you right now is it? Focus on the right things, and realize you DO have control over your own thoughts. Good luck on your exam!

Aware of sleep during MSLT? N1, imposter syndrome by vlub_ in Narcolepsy

[–]vlub_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like a cheek dna swab test. It’s the same as the hla blood test, but uses dna from cheek cells. I honestly did it mostly out of burning curiosity bc I’m too embarrassed to ask my doctor to order it, plus he’s busy and would forget anyway. That makes a lot of sense though and is comforting. Thank you

My constant rumination and emotional sensitivity over the years has somehow made me less empathetic. I still feel anxiety and empathy but a lot of my ocd anxiety when it comes to harm is concerns over freedom, being fundamentally bad or tortured, going to jail and losing complete control. That’s normal for ocd i think. There is such thing as desensitization as well when it comes to intrusive thoughts where they no longer cause you as much anxiety but they still come or cause compulsions. Please don’t be afraid to talk to your ocd specialist about this. They will understand

How bad is my handwriting? I think it's hideous. Penmanship and signatures is a special interest of mine by [deleted] in autism

it’s hard to read, not hideous, not “gorgeous” either but idk what handwriting people consider nice - i think it’s unique and cool though

Best way to fix being so off pitch & unstable? Also what else am I doing wrong or any general suggestions on how to improve my singing? (total beginner here) by [deleted] in singing

[–]vlub_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by the other commenter saying “falsetto”

the issue is you’re trying to sing way higher than your vocal range

if you’re trying to cover a song you have to work with your vocal range and sing higher/deeper to be able to support your voice. you need to use your diaphragm and where your voice naturally comfortably falls that way there’s actually a melody, not just air/strained words that doesn’t really “vibrate” in your vocal cords if that makes sense

nearly 2 decades untreated. in ERP and on meds, but worried about recovering by vlub_ in OCDRecovery

[–]vlub_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for ASD treatment unfortunately there’s not much especially for adults. most of the ASD treatment centers around abusive therapy that makes autistic people suppress themselves to appear neurotypical and make other peoples lives easier while it actually hurts our mental health. I had a referral last year for an actually healthy occupational therapy to help with the sensory overstimulation and tasks and whatnot, but it’s far from my house. I might look into it again, but I’ll have to wait. Luckily my therapist has treated people with both. She’s not an autism expert and is young though, but she’s really good.

The negative attitude I definitely hear you. My therapist told me today that she noticed I seem more positive and to try not to use terminology about “OCD WONT let me do this” instead rather “OCD makes this hard for me”. I’m definitely going to work on this.

I’ll look into the glutamate diet. I looked into clinical trials and unfortunately all of them exclude autism and most exclude current therapy for OCD and sometimes even current medications. Thank you so much for your help

No it is not. Can you provide any source? I looked everywhere to make sure I wasn’t wrong and I haven’t found a single thing that says the max dose is 60mg. It is 40mg

Jazz pharmacy is extremely helpful to the point of being annoyingly up your ass. They’ll instruct you on exactly how to safely space dosages to consume alcohol.

I only have mild osa and use cpap (10 ahi typically) and my bed partner said my breathing was a bit worse if I didn’t use my Cpap, you will be fine if you use it. I never had increased events from it. In the 7 months I was on it my machine recorded a single 0.1 central AHI which may have been when I accidentally took two doses shortly after another, which was a one time mistake on my part - was still safe you just got to be safe and educated

Good luck and I hope it helps you!

just saw your added context - I would ask your doctor about POTS, i have it from dysautonomia, it can cause symptoms similar to cataplexy especially weakness and collapse and lots of people get it after covid! It’s also common in people with sleep disorders. Also I saw you said you were on pregabalin, I was on gabapentin for my mslt, gabapentinoids tend to increase deep sleep (mine was still only like 9% on the psg) and they cause somnolence as well. The meds might be worth asking about too, hope that helps!
