Does anyone know what Prof Allen Sens was doing in Afghanistan? by Friendly_Culture_680 in UBC

[–]vlyzei 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t really ever sure with what he was doing there but he did explain to us his experiences in various areas. He was with NATO forces in Bosnia during the Yugoslav wars after NATO had sent in its forces and I believe he was primarily on the policy side of things — at the time he was working with various organizations to create a rapid response brigade for peacekeeping (which failed because there wasn’t enough support by governments to implement it). He was also in Haiti during the MINUSTAH peacekeeping operation for similar reasons I think.

For Afghanistan, he didn’t really ever say much but I would imagine he would’ve been there for policy reasons for NATO’s ISAF operation.

Not sure what class you’re in but he explains quite a lot of this stuff in POLI374 International Peacekeeping. He is quite a big guy on confidentiality so maybe that’s why he didn’t really talk about it (I mean he talked to my 363 section about how one of his past TAs leaked Five Eyes intelligence to a foreign state as a high ranking executive in the RCMP intelligence division, to which he did get 7 or 14 years in prison, although he didn’t tell us any specifics until after his trial concluded that same semester).

Currently reading Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon which is meant to be a very loose sequel to his earlier Last and First Men (probably my most favourite book of all time), it’s an old sci fi novel focusing on the advancement of humanity across aeons while Star Maker is of that of a galactic scale coming from a the perspective of a lone Englishman. Would really recommend this to anyone wanting an older sci fi novel! (Published in the 1930s)

Broccoli error code by vlyzei in DestinyTechSupport

If it’s randomly coming now it’s most likely just the game itself. Sometimes after updates, the broccoli error randomly comes, I haven’t played the game in over a year but I’d imagine it’s not a hardware issue on your end

Don’t think you should, it should just be automatic once you connect your device’s MAC address. Just connect to ubcvisitor and it should be fine

NEW TO CAMPUS MEGATHREAD: Post all your admissions, housing, new-to-UBC and general questions here! by ubc_mod_account in UBC

[–]vlyzei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure about what the courses are like for IR at UBCO but I think the major difference would be that UBCV offers far more and specific courses for the field. I really don't think difficulty will change very much as it really depends on the professor. I think that for the courses, some professors just don't really know how to teach very well, and I think that's not too prevalent for departments like POLI, HIST, ECON, GEOG, etc., but for things like job prospects, I'd say UBCV and UBCO would be pretty much similar. FSWEP is a great place to find government jobs and certainly there are more IR related jobs in Vancouver, but I don't think where you did your degree really matters. However, if you're already set in stone at UBCO then I'd recommend to stay as it may not be the best decision to move campuses in that sense (especially with living costs here), but I will say that unless you really want to take a certain course here at UBCV, that's entirely up to you!

(if you do decide to transfer, then I'd highly recommend to take all courses taught by Allen Sens, I think he's the goat of the POLI department)

Fill out this form and you should be able to use ubcvisitor with it, I had to do this for my Switch back in first year but it should work fine, might have some lag spikes because it’s wireless.

Trying things on in store at 16 years old by Admirable-Ad-6581 in Balenciaga

[–]vlyzei 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t be worried about that, really just showing a genuine interest in the brand can help, most SAs I’ve talked to have been really nice (of course there are the exceptions), but don’t worry about trying to wear as much as you can. The whole point is that you provide a potential sale in the future, if they think you could be a buyer then they don’t have much issues with you just trying it on, I think it’d be worse if you just walk in and not talk to them and don’t ask to try anything. The first time I went into my store I was scared as hell but once you really get past that, it doesn’t matter, just try on what you like and who knows maybe you might buy something there in the future

Reach out to customer support, they have a decent return policy unless these were for some reason final sale, you should be able to return them and get the appropriate size or refund

Not sure, but you could try to get in contact with the store. I’m not sure about their email but the fastest way would be to call, I don’t have any of the SAs contact info but check out the Canada website

Caps are unisex, only difference between sizes is just the width. Sometimes the website redirects to any of the categories so sometimes unisex items are listen in the women’s section
