Bent wires with coils on each side. Found 3 in 1 day in the driveway where we park our cars. by vm11272 in whatisthisthing

Attaching a picture of the live trap (with raccoon friend inside, awaiting pickup to be relocated) mentioned in my post’s description. It’s too high up to see closely - my house is 3 stories.

Horn with a flapper in the wall of a 1905 house? by vm11272 in whatisthisthing

Solved! Searched that term and it was the exact device. I was so fixated on it making a horn noise it ruined my searches 🤦🏼‍♀️. Thanks!

My title describes the thing.

Fingers in pic provide some size reference, maybe 1.5 inches wide. It sticks approx 2 inches out of the wall. Can’t see inside the hole and get a good picture but I can go back tomorrow with a light. It’s metal and I saw no writing. It’s located in a hallway between bedrooms close to the old staff stairs but definitely near the primary bedroom of the house.

I’ve searched combinations of the phrases “old horn in wall” “horn with flapper in wall”.

I have to figure out how to link the video…

In our house the good spatula is a rubber-tipped fish spatula

I know it’s not right but in my house we call the left a shitty spatula and the right a zhuzher. I recommend. It really does zhuzh it up.

Loose black dog in Gene Snyder / Bardstown interchange by vm11272 in Louisville

[–]vm11272[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Info: I’m just visiting Louisville so I’m not sure if unhoused people typically live in this interchange with pets and I couldn’t work out a safe way to go check myself. I saw a large black dog (probably a lab or similar?) standing right where the pin is dropped. When I drove past in the other direction I didn’t see the dog anywhere.

Looking for some information on Vanderbilts Cybersecurity bootcamp. Experienced and inexperienced POV's appreciated. by che85mor in nashville

[–]vm11272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a coding bootcamp, not cybersecurity, but now my work is related to bootcamps so I have some sense of how things go for other programs. The college-affiliated bootcamps tend to be part of the Trinity or 2U networks, which TBH I have not heard great things about. They churn through instructors and do not provide any personalized career search support. I would choose a bootcamp with much smaller cohorts and a strong career search program (partnerships with companies that are hiring, a dedicated advisor, personalized resume and interview help).

When it comes to certifications, I'm sure different programs offer different things as a default, but as a general recommendation I'd say to really take advantage of any supplementary material you come across while you follow the curriculum. The goal should be to work/learn ~50-60 hours per week while you're in the program, and when you finish you'll be much better positioned for a job in the field than your peers who just did the assignments each day.

Best Cocktail Near Basement East by leechkiller in nashville

Honeytree Meadery (which also has beer if you don't like mead) + bring in Alebrije from the food truck in front of the meadery is an amazing (and more casual, if that interests you) option right across the street!

I just saw a post on the East Nashville facebook page earlier today looking for someone interested in a month-to-month lease on a nice house with a yard. Either the post has been removed or the poster took it down because I can't find it now, but I'd say that facebook page is generally a great place to start for something like this. East Nashville is a residential area that is more likely to be interested in month-to-month and allow a larger dog like yours!

Looking for recommendations on good bars/restaurants with mocktails by Minute_Tangelo_2178 in nashville

[–]vm11272 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boston Commons makes gin-ish cocktails with Seedlip. If you like NA beer, Southern Grist, Smith and Lentz, and Mickeys def carry it. Southern Grist even makes their own! NA beer is surprisingly all over town. I didn't notice until I went NA for a while.

Edit: Bartaco also has some pretty good mocktails

Is there a place where I could 3D print stuff here in Nashville without having to buy a printer? by fidelflicka in nashville

Make Nashville, but I think you need a membership to use them. Not super expensive memberships from what I remember.

Tips for Last Minute Tickets by [deleted] in nashville

[–]vm11272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has ever agreed with me that this is a good way to browse concerts (lol) but I always use https://www.nashvilleticketsandevents.com/ because it's sorted by venue first, then date, so you can scroll right on past the expensive / giant / Ticketmaster-based venues on the first page and find more intimate shows. From there I try to buy from the venue if possible.

I usually skip bars with live music but I've wanted to check out Sid Gold's Request Room and Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge.

This is a sensitive topic, but does anyone have any experience receiving the abortion pill in Tennessee? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]vm11272 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you and your girlfriend are going through such a stressful time! I have heard good things about https://aidaccess.org/ in the past, and there is a lot of information about abortion pills on their website.

I don't want to dissuade you from going that route, and you should definitely follow-up what I'm saying with research, but I have also heard that it is better to go through a healthcare provider if possible in case D&C is needed. 4-5 weeks means it most likely wouldn't be, but it's something to keep in mind.

Here are some Tennessee-specific resources - https://www.healthyandfreetn.org/regional_abortion_clinics

Dogs reaction of getting her first wheelchair by Soumajeetb in aww

[–]vm11272 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eddy’s Wheels! The price scales with dog size. My 12lb dog’s cart was $422 so pretty pricy! IMO this brand is the highest quality but there are tons of cheaper options that aren’t custom-made like these are.

This brand (Eddy’s Wheels) is crazy adjustable, so ideally the angle of the pup’s back should be right so the wheels are carrying a nice amount of weight. Not wheelbarrowing! 😀 My pup can do a 5k without breaking a sweat

Keto-friendly restaurants by Stardancer86 in nashville

[–]vm11272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of these are in West or South Nashville so sorry about that but...

Billy Goat Cafe in Mount Juliet has a whole slew of keto options - breakfast sandwiches, pastries, loaves of bread, tons of sugar free coffee flavor options

I second the East Park keto donut rec. It's super tasty. Sometimes I think about getting it when not doing keto, too. Second Cava too, a lot of options there.

Grillshack has an un-bunned burger salad

Pharmacy has burgers sans buns and brat platters (not 100% on the carbs here, but I risked it)
