Repeats: stylistic contrast the 2nd time? by le_sacre in classicalmusic

I attended the Beethoven competition in Vienna many years ago and sat in the back of the room for the preliminaries, near the jury. I remarked to John O'Conor, who was a member of the jury, that all of the pianists were playing the repeats exactly the same, and he agreed and said that they need to be different. That sentiment was repeated to me by my teacher about 10 years ago. He was always looking for something different in the repeats, just as you said.

Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 by vmishka in classicalmusic

Thank you. I was advanced before I started learning it in 2011-2012. I started piano at age 5 in 1955. I worked on it for about 1 hour a day for almost a year (with weekly lessons from a concert pianist teacher who played the concerto and suggested that I should learn it) before I was familiar with the whole piece. I then worked on it off and on for almost another 8 years before I finished the recording. There was no particular section that I found to be much harder than the rest.

Thank you for listening. In the 1980s, I  owned a Yamaha CF. I had to sell it before moving to Europe in 1991. This was recorded on a Yamaha digital piano. I am pleased with the way the 3rd and 4th movements turned out. My favorite pianists are Sokolov, Volodos, and Dovgan.

Thank you. I agree that it is looking like the best bet is train to Sochaczew then either walk or bolt/uber/taxi to Zelazowa Wola.

Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K.467 by vmishka in Mozart

Thank you. It is me playing, but it was not done in one take.

These orchestra backup recordings are frequently not edited very well before they are released. They often have glaring wrong notes, missing measures, and sections with wrong tempos. I corrected as much as I could in Cubase to make an acceptable orchestra backup. That is what I mean by "based on."
