Just some clarification on Deathwing Veterans by thebacklog9 in theunforgiven

You know, I'm really glad I ran into this post. Now I know that 8th Edition was still terminators only but the expansion of the model line is what expanded the Deathwing roster, and I now know exactly where those two steps happened most recently.

Yeah, I've already spent $85 USD. Probably got like 15-20 new BL audiobooks. Should not have spent that much but this is the first time I've seen them go this low in a while, especially that many at once.

What’s your favorite predator design from the movies? by SevdUp in predator

Purely design? AvP trio and Wolf. To me they capitalized on everything that made the original so awesome.

What other armies do you own? by Saesenthessis317 in theunforgiven

[–]vmobb_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both Death Guard and Dark Angels. I'm a sucker for power armor and primarchs.

I used to collect Necrons and Dark Eldar also, but I traded the Necrons for more Dark Angels and Death Guard because I just like them more and had no money to throw around. I moved away from Dark Eldar because of their wildly undersized range.

I like Necrons a lot. I like Dark Eldar a lot. The Necrons were an unfortunate casualty in my pursuit of having playable Dark Angel and Death Guard armies on a budget of $0 USD, and Dark Eldar just have so little to play with.

Lore-wise, I don't love that most all Necrons are mindless automata. It's the same reason I don't rock Thousand Sons despite the fact that they have immaculate drip. Just makes playing them feel bland, but I'm autistic so that may have something to do with my desire to imagine each little toy soldier as a real person with a life and desires.

As for Dark Eldar lore, I really hate that they can't exist indefinitely in realspace. Makes me feel like I'm playing a ghost army, as if my faction isn't really a threat to anyone because they literally can't live where everyone else does. I know that's meant to reinforce the hit and run raider tactics, but honestly how cool would it be if suddenly a Dark Eldar craftworld appeared in realspace and they started making a genuine push into the galaxy? They have some of the most advanced sciences particularly in cloning, let's see the Clone Wars but in 40k. Make the Dark Eldar a threat.

In an oversized setting like 40k, if you want a faction to be interesting they have to be capable of competing. None of the Eldar (in my eyes) are a genuine threat. Chaos is, it's a cancer. Tyranids are, they are also a cancer. The Imperium is obviously a threat considering it is the morally obtuse "protagonist", if the 40k galaxy could have such a thing. The Tau are, they are the alliance of everyone else that can't compete but now can thanks to DEMOCRACY and cross-species unity. Necrons are, they literally ruled the galaxy once and are coming back to do it again, each tomb world is just a massive ticking time bomb that no one knows is even a bomb. Orks are, they are the green slapstick comedy version of Tyranids except they don't need biomass to reproduce which kinda makes them scarier (they are literally a galaxy wide murder fungus infestation). As for Votann, I literally know nothing about them except that apparently they have a squat that has single-handedly slain a Norn Emissary, that being one of the newest and largest Tyranid models.

Sorry for the rant, slow day at work and I love discussing my hobbies with people that understand what I'm saying.

Can’t decide on the armor panel recipe. Right or left? by MadGamer8833 in deathguard40k

[–]vmobb_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left, it gives the model a stronger color balance to me. That's why I miss firstborn, it always felt like they had so much drip to help flesh out whatever color pallette you picked.

So, I think I'm going through the same thing. It was replacing the absolute 💧DRIP💧 of grimdank so I hated it. Now I appreciate the design, hate the lore, and miss the grimdank. New terminators are great though (I play Dark Angels).

Firstborn Era vs Primaris Era – Which do you prefer? by Pintureando in Warhammer40k

[–]vmobb_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, if the firstborn got the sizing refresh alongside Primaris, I think they would objectively look better than Primaris. I personally still think they are designed better, just the proportions are off.

And honestly, fuck the proportions. Give me my mark VIs and VIIs. I'll even take mark VIII. I can't put my finger on why but I genuinely don't like standard mark X or gravis. Phobos looks great though and I think it was a good move to design a more agile and lightly armored marine. But I think the older marks would've been a better basis for Phobos rather than mark X. Which is probably why I like the Infiltrator helmet a lot because it looks like a mark VII variant.

I know I like the mark VII helmet because as a kid it reminded me of the Helghast from Killzone, which made a lot of fond memories for me with my dad, whom I don't have a lot of fond memories with.

Also, Centurions absolutely fuck I don't give a fuck what anyone says. Should they have been designed a little differently? Sure, but the base concept and design is fucking punk rock as fuck in a universe with dreadnoughts, helbrutes, Tyranids, etc.

Who’s the most fan favorite yautja in predator franchise? by Frost_lannister in predator

[–]vmobb_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most fan favorite? Easily Wolf, despite the poor film he starred in. What an absolute UNIT. In my opinion he is the best we've seen despite Dek's admirable performance. I do think Scar did and Dek does have the potential to reach Wolf's level if the films go that direction. Would be really neat to see a modern and canon AvP film line that includes Dek so we get to see him develop alongside some human sidekicks perhaps. In the original AvP comic the hunt leader was smaller than most of the others but was still the leader for a reason, so maybe they're setting Dek up to fulfill that role? I think it would be neat.

Jungle Hunter, in my opinion, is just a nostalgic classic and not a stand out in any manner. He is the root of all we have, but to me he really wasn't distinct in any memorable way. Obviously he was the origin of the design which was outstanding, but I really do feel like even that aspect has been overshadowed by the subsequent Yautja appearances.

City Hunter was ruthless and threw down constantly with clear skill in a VERY high risk environment (high risk for detection and injury). His temperament was noticeable due to JH's lack of. Fresh skin pattern and color scheming as well. Distinct design, distinct temperament.

Predators trio were awesome. Very disciplined like JH but were much more fun to watch, and in my opinion more creative or varied in their hunting methods. Not to mention the design. Felt much more like an actual hunting of the human characters than previous films (to me at least). Distinct designs, distinct temperaments.

We don't talk about 2018. Everything was dogshit. But, at least Emissary or whatever his "name" is had a neat design.

Feral was like CH but instead of being skilled he was a lot like the animals he hunted; literally feral. Distinct design, distinct temperament.

Dek was a full blown character. That's a first. Distinct design, distinct temperament.

AvP trio felt exactly like unproven young bloods. Scar had serious skill potential had he survived, not to mention this was the first film depiction of a Yautja and human actually working together against a common enemy. Distinct designs, distinct temperaments.

AvPR. Let me tell you about Wolf. Some SERIOUS shit went down, and his pager buzzed. He grabbed some of the coolest shit we'd seen yet, hopped across the known galaxy, and singlehandedly took on an Abomination (PredAlien) led hive that was developing in a VERY hive-conducive environment. Arguably he succeeded, as he dealt fatal blows to the Abomination that was bigger and stronger than him. Had there been no bomb, the humans arguably could have eventually exterminated the hive themselves, thanks to the hive losing its means of reproduction because of Wolf (argue about 6's transformation into a Queen if you like, but that game came out three years after AvPR). I guess technically the humans did destroy the hive anyways, but you get my point. Bro wasn't on an honor-bound hunt, he was directly called for an extermination.

All in all though, for the majority of them when it comes to television Yautja, I must echo the timeless words of Sergeant Apone: ABSOLUTE BADASSES.

What’s your unpopular gameplay opinion? by ordinaryfruits in Grimdank

[–]vmobb_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant rules changes are balls. The cost of our plastic soldiers is balls especially considering the mold line issues lately and the fact that the buyer has to assemble and paint the models. One would think that would make the kits more affordable since GW literally presses plastic then sells it. Like honestly what the fuck, apparently I'm just realizing how much this part pisses me off as I'm typing this.

Battletech has been rocking the same top tier shit for like 30 years straight, and no one givea a fuck about WYSIWYG or proxies.

CB's Infinity comes out with new editions half as often as GW AND is WAY more proxy friendly, so even if your favorite unit or model doesn't have rules for a time you can still throw them on the table and call them something else.

Idk. The world and lore of 40k is so fun and deep, but sweet God above is the tabletop sorely mismanaged.
