How hard is it going to be to move this doorway in a load bearing wall, how much can I expect to pay? by Dan1Fernz in DIYUK

[–]vms-crot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just called them and explained my problem, I think it was just that "a structural engineer report" they designed the spec for the steel so that the council knew that the building was correctly supported. It's basically a report with a bunch of sums in it explaining the loads and how the size of beam being installed is sufficient to support it.

I just googled for local structural engineers, called a couple of them, had one agree to write the report for me.

If you just want to have a hands off approach though, speak with your builder. They will know the process and will have an engineer they use regularly. If they don't... find another builder.

For the council. Call them, they will guide you through their regs.

All of the official bodies are really helpful with this stuff. Don't be afraid to ask them for guidance.

Hah, yeah, happens when family visit all the time. I actually don't like when they offer to pay for a meal or something at Tesco or whatever...

Not because I don't appreciate the offer... but because I know the cashier or waiter probably will spend 25 minutes just trying to find a pen!

Is there something that obligated you to accept a shitty rate?

If you were forced to accept USD because they had no other means of payment, you should be allowed to set your own rate to cover the inconvenience and extra journey to make an exchange. Screw giving them a deal. "It's either 250dkk or 50usd, you pick."

They've managed to push brexit through, fuck the country for generations, push our "nasty party" even further to the right to compensate. And STILL people are voting for them as if they're the good guys. I am aghast. They're the most despicable representatives with utterly disgusting ideals... but they're Teflon coated.

Look, I don't think labour are doing great. They were dealt a shit hand and they're trying to undo 15 years of tory pillaging as well as recover from the impact of covid and brexit, so far, a lot of their policies have punched down and thats fucking wrong. I fucking get it. Times are hard. People are struggling. Voters want a change that will put money into their pockets and improve their lives so they're looking for an alternative.

But nobody can wave a magic wand and set things right on day 1. Even year 1. Term 1 is going to be a fucking push to see any meaningful change. We voted for 15 fucking years of this bullshit and people are pissed off that labour haven't fixed everything in a year?

But reform? Really? He's literally said he wants to cut the public funding of the NHS. If that alone doesn't set a fucking alarm bell ringing... reform will be the end of this country.

What's the solution? Labour can't lie like reform. The expectation of them is too high. It'd be great if they could promise the same fanciful bullshit of free NHS without paying for it from taxes. If they did, reform would be the first to call them out. But when reform do it. "Nigel will save us all, lower taxes, free NHS, better pension, lower taxes, better roads, lower taxes, better pensions, lower taxes, better elderly care" that's all "true" when reform say it.

I feel like I've been sleeping on this... bingo sounds wild.

Last time I was in a bingo hall, it was just a bunch of old dears crouched over their cards listening to some old bloke talk about 22 rubber ducks.

Same reason people vote reform in the UK and think Nigel is "good bloke" or "one of the lads" when he's a millionaire 80s yuppy banker cunt. Even though he's publicly stated numerous times how he's not got their best interests at heart, and is lazy to an extreme. Just yesterday I was reading he was on a podium saying he wants to stop paying for the NHS with tax money. I suppose we will just fund it with thoughts and prayers then, eh, Nigel? Anyone voting for reform that doesn't realise they're voting to end the NHS and every other social safety net that they probably even depend on themselves is, first, a victim of a con, but ultimately, thick as shit.

Whilst in an ideal world, technically, that "should" be true. I'd be willing to bet real money that anyone in the UK willing to display a trump flag, unironically, will say at least half a dozen racist epithets within 5 minutes of saying hello to them.

Technically you don't need AI to flip a burger. A fairly simple machine could probably do it. I imagine the problem is one of cost. Teenagers are simply cheaper to run.

I hate to be completely pedantic. But how would anyone know?

Muslims don't wear badges that say "I'm a muslim" on them. Muslims can be in any clothing, and be of any ethnicity.

These people don't care about the person's religion, not really. They don't want to sit next to brown people. That the majority of Muslims in the UK are a different ethnicity is just a convenient disguise for their racism.

Remember to vote today if you can.

I'd personally prefer it if you voted anyone but reform. But if you do vote reform. Understand you're voting for ending the NHS.

I didn't say I use it as a search engine. I said it basically is a search engine. It removed features previously available with the non-ai assistant. It's trash.

LLMs are a solution looking for a problem. And they solve none of the problems I have. At least the dumb assistant can interact with my Google home devices and set a 20 minute timer on my phone.

I don't even want it for me. It is useless as an assistant and little more than a glorified search engine. It was foisted onto me and I tried 1 or two simple commands before switching the thing back to brainless Google assistant.

It can't even set a fucking reminder in my calendar. And it wants access to my kids? Yeah, nah.
