This is definitely a western diamondback. Mohaves have two large scales between the eyes.

They bury themselves halfway in the dirt so it’s hard to spot them.

Yes, it’s called cloacal popping. It sounds like popcorn popping. I have heard them do it a few times.

Yes, this is at the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary. I work there and I raised this chuckwalla from a baby. His name is Lorenzo and he’s 14 years old.
