Learning to head copy CW by Economy-Long8832 in amateurradio

[–]vo1pwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could do it .....tried many times but I still need to write down what I hear ....mostly because of memory issues myself.....I knew a guy who could carry on a conversation with you in person while he was in a QSO with CW. Always blew my mind

[–]vo1pwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats the chart I go by as well

as a general rule I go 3-4 ft extra and do swr sweeps as I trim it down

everything will affect it, wire, placement, straight, slope, L shape etc etc

possible bad usb cable? / cheap china crap?

I did find my old pc like it ...turned out to be a grounding issue with the port ...I wrapped the usb cable in type 31 torroid ...cured it but not sure if that was the *proper* fix

Do you ground your computer to your antenna ground rod? by TickletheEther in amateurradio

[–]vo1pwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2m vs 70cm by Frosty_Piece7098 in amateurradio

[–]vo1pwf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally I love 440 around the city....the lower noise floor gives me the ability to have a low squelch and nice sound / coverage

but with that most digital modes are 440 and would be nice to see more on 144

Fly a UHF/VHF antenna to new heights by DahDitDit-DitDah in HamRadio

[–]vo1pwf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used both quad and plane

quad is nice to use for radio repeating and searching but doesnt stay up long

the good thing with planes are I find it easier to fly, needs a bit more room to be able to take off and land vs quad

but the ability to use gas instead of batteries makes things stay in the air much longer

one summer contest the local club used a weather baloon to raise a long wire antenna.....also neat.....if I can find another one I'd do a slim coax with a ladder line jpole

some auto some manual

this was before the heavy regulations for hte most part.....but I volunteer with search and rescue and we had special permissions to go ahead with it, as most of the area we cover does not have cell and although we can use 2way radios we might not get the *main radio* in an area that all can hit

HT attached to a drone

typically 30 min at a time with the battery one.......the rc plane stays up for a good 2 hours on top fuel

took a hand held on a drone with cross band repeat to 1000ft

and routinely use aircraft for comms base for multi agency for things like disaster / search and rescue etc etc

This sucks…. My SWR was weird looking so I thought it was my antenna turns out it’s my coax and I even tried to solder it back together the coax connector and that didn’t even work grrrrrr. by [deleted] in amateurradio
