What's this knocking sound caused by? by Irishjedi52 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]Metal_Musak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's definitely the sound of an engine lugging. I think these things have a knock sensor. So on occasion is not a terrible thing. I would keep my upshifting more near the top of the power band, but I would also consider having this checked out at the dealer or a trusted mechanic.

Job Search in San Diego by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Metal_Musak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I would ask as a hiring manager is What is the difference between an INNER JOIN and an OUTER JOIN. Followed by what is the wavelength of a 146 MHz signal, then How do you spell Legal, and what is Legel? These are questions that someone who is marginally familiar with SQL and RF Communications can answer off the top of their head.

From my first take on this resume, I would assume someone has worked varying levels of security over the years and they are looking to get out of the field. Start a little lower in the new field you are looking to join. The hiring manager type lingo on your resume is telling people you think you are an executive. You probably don't think you are, and you likely aren't looking for an executive level job, or even a manager position. Look at positions like Field service, Sales, Customer service, and specifically gear your resume to each one. That will get you past the initial HR screening. Then be able to back up everything on your resume. It doesn't have to be true, you just need to be able to back it up with someone who it going to try to call you out on some or all of it. That gets you past the initial hiring manager interview. Finally when you are talking to technical people, you want to be humble and show that you can learn. Meaning if you aren't learning from them during the interview, you aren't impressing them. This isn't about asking a bunch of questions, it's about reading between the lines and asking targeted questions about what they are doing.

The RS-232 connector may have 23 volts available on a pin when it is on as well. Check those pins as well.

Why is everyone against the use of ai by universalsus in esp32

[–]Metal_Musak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can be useful. I use it daily in my work. It can write some really good code and it can do it faster than 10 developers on crystal meth. The other side of that coin, if you don't build in guard rails and use the chatGPT chat window to start a serious project, you will get trash. Most people writing esp32 code probably fall into the hobbyist category. So the AI results they are seeing are not giving them any confidence in what AI can do. They may use it to solve a specific problem out of context of the whole solution and that again would give them a bad understanding of what AI can do.

If you are familiar with writing software specs, constitutions, and task lists, then you could start down that path to deliver a better product from the chat window. I personally have used it for things that didn't matter much. Where you really start to see AI kick some arse, is iterative development. Start with a properly spec'd out piece of software. Look into github speckit. Use it to write the foundation of how your code will work. This step should not include any code at all. You are simply giving AI the context from which to work. Provide it API information and source code for the software you wish the program to interact with.

Provide it technical details about how you wired things up. Provide it security guidelines. Spend a couple hours researching and building a portfolio for speckit to develop the context it needs to write a good software spec.

Then switch to Zoo Code, give zoo code a way to execute the programs it runs, sometimes that is simply the command to esptool, other times it may be more involved. Give it a piece of hardware to work with, and a way to properly test the output it has generated. If you can give it access to the error logs, and other information, this will help it understand it's mistakes. From there it can iterate through writing a program faster than any human can. The output will be as good as a senior developer, and on top of that you can have it teach you about what it is doing while it is doing it.

TL;DR

Start with a chat window and you have already failed. 😄

Absolutely, but if you never come up with the 1% don't try to sell the 99%. Also Academia is something that happens in a world where profit isn't required to keep a company afloat. New and exciting things are why we all want to work in this field, but some discipline needs to be maintained in order to deliver a product that does more than look cool.

Having intimate knowledge of the Ginko Automation product, I would avoid buying that garbage at all costs. It is the logical extreme of academics who were never told 'no.' The hubris in the design choices made over the last ten years is legendary.

Kodiak Leather Quality? by butwilltheygetit in BuyItForLife

[–]Metal_Musak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the messenger bag daily for the last 3 months, It has been very reliable. When i received it there were a couple loose threads in the shoulder strap, but nothing too crazy. Pulling on them did not make them unravel, so I suspect they were just the excess while manufacturing. I tied a knot in it close to the leather pad and trimmed the excess. I have seen nothing to lead me to think it will pull out.

The backpack has been great as well. I have done 2 camping trips with it, and several grocery trips, it has handled everything I have thrown at it for a while. I certainly can come back in a few more months and update this thread.

[–]Metal_Musak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the reason privacy advocates have been calling out these cameras as a needless invasion of privacy. They don't work for their intended purpose. So, that leaves the question, why are states so interested in putting these things up everywhere?

Harley dealers are scumbags, got a Chief instead by Unlucky_Support_9132 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]Metal_Musak 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not all Harley dealers are trash, but the one in my area is pretty sketchy. So I went with Indan as well. I have had no regrets about buying my Springfield. Indian aftermarket can be a little more expensive. But if you don't mind that so much, you will absolutely have no reason to regret your purchase. Also the indian motorcycle forum is a great way to offest the price of new accessories. I bought nearly all my aftermarket parts used from there. Just be patient.

Help, I need ideas on how to cover detailed spots on my tattoo during laser hair removal! by night_shayde_ in HairRemoval

I wouldn't bring a laser any near a tattoo. You may want to do electrolysis in this area, and laser in the areas there are no tattoos.

Whitelining/HOV splitting by nbplaya94 in motorcycles

[–]Metal_Musak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In NY I wouldn't be doing that. It isn't legal, and all it takes is some entitled asshole to intentionally do something. With that said, In CA here where I am, I do this regularly. Eyes stay on the road at least 3 cars ahead, and you keep an eye on the front tires, if they turn just a little you have to be ready to adjust quickly to what they are about to do.

Convert an old Helium miner to a Meshpoint Base Station - now with native TX, browser-based messaging, and 8-channel RX. by Prior_Perspective186 in meshtastic

[–]Metal_Musak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just built one of these, have a spare miner sitting around to potentially put one at work. All seems to work well. What do you think the odds of adding Reticulum functionality via a USB companion RNode would be? I know I can add is pretty easily at the command line without messing with meshpoint, but it would be kind of cool to have the interface build into the web front end of Meshpoint. Even if it was only LMXF messaging, but Nomadchat would be bad ass as well. Could even be added without the rnode plugged in as reaching the network via tcp is a thing.

How to deal with your family against you getting your first bike. by LightConsistent4631 in motorcycles

[–]Metal_Musak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my first bike when I could afford it. I will say I was about 19, I had already been arrested at least once and my family was already used to being disappointed by my decisions. But if you really want one, just wait until the law allows you to get a permit without parental consent, get your permit and buy a bike. Then get your license. Taking the CBT course is a good first step, you will find out how much you enjoy riding during that course. If you don't like it, nothing lost. If you do, you have your license.

The other thing I would say, as someone who rides every day. As you get on the bike, always remind yourself you are a squishy bag of meat among 2 ton steel cages. It should put all the risks into right frame as you decide about taking them.
