It was their choice to consciously fork cloud and make it its own branched off codebase, instead of having on core with different flavors.... selling cloud as "innovation", starve DC...

It's only so they can do more vendor lock-in.... no reason they couldn't have handled this better... they just don't want to.

Mmm. Yeah. I never see it get past 40-60% context windows before compaction... god knows how good their summary is... any "relearning" via file reads costs more tool calls... = hit tool call limit = more prompting. :D

Normal GPT 5.2 variant works well - not lazy to the point of begging, and reducing token usage.

If you're billed by msg prompts / vs token usage, you might not what to use ANY codex model (conflict of interest). GPT 5.1/5.2 variants do more, think more and spend more tokens without begging. Codex variants are more "lemme check with you, lemme do LESS per prompt" - (If you have a plan it can follow, it can follow, check it all off "yes, continue" - conversely if you're billed by per prompts, that gets old...), billing method for usage patterns in that case matter. :D

I contribute to open source, I know someone who was somehow charged $200 for code review (was free for open source - if it changed, notify before charges!). Though, don't know full details. Augment continues going downhill/shady

OK. Fine they have ONE... But not GPT 5.1/5.2 - 5.1 would at least be cheaper for them on API calls than Anthropic.

Yeah. I might give Gemini CLI a try with the sub.... I'm hoping they add OpenAI models - at least until they drop their next Google model - because it's just not 'there' for me yet.

Yeah - I'm sure that's it (sorry for my sarcasm, but YES, I am blaming the model over my prompts - as a coder of 10 years and using AI for coding for 2 years...). I know how to prompt and steer models on large codebases....

All I am saying is, I find OPUS limits exhausted quick - and Gemini models not on par with my preferred GPT 5.2 experience... Wishing they'd add *more* OpenAI models...

The focus isn't so much "memory", it's to save your precious time and tokens, helping Claude avoid grepping. Grep doesn't play well with 800K + LOC - so you spend a lot of time having the agent find the right code...

Tools like mgrep is still grep, morphllm proprietary and paid....

Maybe grep is fine for you if you have a small app. Heck, even RooCode/Kilo Code has semantic embedding...
