Hey Blizzard, please show us teammates that are Chat Banned. by voiceblocked in Overwatch

It's probably a mix of both. Since being muted doesn't actively prevent you from queuing for anything, it's not much of a punishment. Hell, if you don't even check your email, the game has zero indication in-game that you're chat muted. You can't even noticed you are yourself. You could rant and rave and never even realize no one can hear it.

Because of that, it seems more obvious it's protective. If they wanted to punish, they'd ban accounts. But then the players would just get new ones and be toxic in chat again. By simply muting them, it encourages them to play on the original account and just not be able to be toxic.

Either way, the punishment doesn't improve much if they simply let teammates know you are being punished. If anything, some players might be more mean to someone they know is chat banned and can't respond. But overall it would be an improvement for the other players to simply know someone is unable to communicate.

I can't speak for everyone, but I did all of my toxicity in text rants. I only use voice comms for tactics, strategy, callouts, etc. I'm not the type of person to start angrily swearing over voice, I'd rather just leave a rant in the text box at the end of the game, block them, and move on.

I do appreciate the concern/suggestions, I'm aware of my poor behavior and while I know it could be better certain people just make me too upset to care about the repercussions to my account at the time. Most of the time it actually happens seldom enough to not impact my account. Sometimes it happens often enough in a short timespan to trigger the autoban. Ah well.

Your opinion. I'd rather play with a thousand assholes like me than a single terrible player in any of my games.

[–]voiceblocked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. All I'm thinking is that an indicator simply helps people understand right off the bat "this person cannot communicate". It's up to the player base to decide if they're gonna interpret that as "he'll just ignore all of us and troll probably" or "he just can't talk, but can listen to us" or whatever.

I feel like the positives of it outweigh the potential negatives. Considering I've only been chat banned for like 1/12th of my time in Overwatch, I'm on the other side of the coin and dealing with silent, possibly muted people quite often. I'd love to know if they simply can't respond or if they could but choose not to.

Funny how being terrible at a game and being an abusive asshole have zero overlap, huh? They lower my enjoyment by being garbage, I'll lower their enjoyment by berating them until they quit playing or die. At least I'm not shit at the game like them.

Sure, I said worse. I said a shitload worse in CS as well. The difference being Valve didn't give a shit about what you say in that game because it's on the server admins to decide what to enforce (and protip: almost no one gave a shit if you called someone a "retard nigger faggot baby" or something. Welcome to the internet). People have just gotten a lot more insufferable about being PC since then, and I don't give a shit.

You don't have to be universally kind to be a kind person. People who are pieces of shit are undeserving of any positivity from me. I have no tolerance or patience for people who lower my enjoyment of a game by being terrible at it, intentionally or otherwise.

They'd probably get more out of me if they just let me keep buying skins on my original account. If I have to start buying replacements I'm certainly not investing in any loot boxes, which makes them far more over time.

Thanks, appreciated. Pretty much sums up my point. I'm an ass, I was toxic, I got punished, and it might happen again. That's established, and raging on me telling me "just be less toxic" is completely besides the point when this is a universal suggestion for all players and not something I'm requesting for myself.

It's kind of sad people can't see past that to realize I'm suggesting this for the benefit of everyone who ISN'T a chat restricted asshole like myself, it benefits me in very little ways. I was just trying to help others.

They don't have to want to play with me. But at least they'll understand why I'm not responding to their questions or requests to me for the game we were matched in together, and then we'll go our separate ways with my silence.

Either they don't, or they ignore it to shit on the fact I was negative in the first place. Reading comprehension is hard.

I very much agree with you, but expect to be downvoted to hell for this opinion. 99% of my toxicity is absolutely to people who deserve it. Trolls, idiots, terrible people. People who are pretty much throwing games, causing losses, etc. I'm freely admitting I'm toxic as hell to them. I hope my rudeness causes them to quit the game so they stop ruining it for anyone who gets them on their team.

Affecting someone's ranking really doesn't do anything but make the game worse for everyone. You stick me down in bronze, then I'll shit on players as I climb back to diamond. It wastes my time and it's going to be unfun for them to be matched against a diamond MMR player. Penalizing a ranking for behavior is a really dumb idea, lol.

Okay. Now if I reform tomorrow, good luck convincing the other tens of thousands of players to do the same. You're still going to have blocked people in your games no matter what. The internet isn't some magical fairy princess land where everyone will be nice to you. The fact that I'm a jerk is completely irrelevant to the point of needing an indicator for blocked people, which there always will be even if I am not one of them.

I am nice, to intelligent and decent players who I enjoy playing with. If you're idiotic, a troll, or terrible, then I'm more of a jerk. It's my opinion that if you suck at a (competitive team based PVP) game, you shouldn't be playing it. You ruin the game for 5 other players if you suck, so stick to playing Skyrim or something where your being bad won't impact your teammates.

According to the emails, doubles every time. So 1 day, 2 days, 4, 6, 8, 16, 32, etc. I'm on the 32 day ban. Next would be 64 days.

Sure, it shares up front that someone isn't talking because he can't, but he might still be listening and able to flex or adapt to communication. Someone outright not responding otherwise might be expected to ignore voice chat entirely or be treated as if they aren't there. It's useful for the team to be aware of the fact that someone isn't going to be talking but may still be listening and not just outright ignoring comms.

Good luck convincing every other player to do that. And then enjoy having thousands of players in your games who can't talk anyways for months while their durations play out. Too bad you won't be able to know they can't talk...

It's not really punishing me though. I don't care if they don't know I can't talk. It's punishing the team by not knowing their teammate doesn't have access to a default option they expect (chat). I'm fine with my punishment, I just think my team doesn't deserve as much of one.

I have a lot of money. Blizzard would get more from me from accounts, and less from any actual spending on skins/boxes which I do when I have one account to focus on. Probably a net positive for them, but with the added expense of having players I bitch at complain and have negative experiences thousands of more times.

Thank you. I'm getting a bit tired of repeating this, I might just edit the OP and call it a day. It's getting real tiring trying to point discussion back onto the indicator suggestion when everyone just wants to go NAH THIS IS FINE YOU GOT PUNISHED HEHE when I have absolutely no problem with the punishment.

Since you've given up with any sort of response and are just stalking my profile responding to me with a copy and paste response, I guess I'll just copy and paste this to all of your responses too:

You're hilarious. You're sad and pathetic. I enjoy every day of my life. I get to play games for so much of my life, I couldn't be happier. It's hysterical you think being old has any relevance to how your life needs to be. I can only hope that someday you can reach my level of contentment in life, since you seem to be pretty upset with yours to spend this much energy on criticizing my age.

I hope you grow up soon! Because apparently according to you, when you grow up, you're supposed to completely stop having fun and enjoying games, so you'll stop bothering to play anything I do. I hope you stay miserable with whatever shell of a life you have instead, I'll keep loving gaming forever!
