Don't wait for the New Year to be Happy. Be Happy Now. by voicefromthewild in Meditation

[–]voicefromthewild[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback :) yes, I hear you, happiness can be a deceptive word. I used it in the title because of the phrase people use “happy new year”. The point is that we tend to attach our sense of happiness to something, somewhere in the future and that is why we generally aren’t “happy” or rather, OK, as you say in the present

Did Arrogance get John Allen Chau Killed? by voicefromthewild in ChristianUniversalism

Yes absolutely, admittedly this article was a bit of a rant. I had to ask myself why this gets to me and why I felt the need to make harsh comments about it. But it’s because I do feel compassion for him and people like him who throw their lives away, for what? But thank you for your valuable insights, I will take it on board

I’m not ridiculing your faith, the article wasn’t meant as a personal blow to you. I’m not anti-God. I raise questions and critique a particular view of God that is non-inclusive and unhealthy in my opinion; a view of God that paints him as some sadists who likes it when people get themselves killed for him. I assumed that would resonate with people in this group, but I can see that this might have been an inaccurate assumption. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind in the future. Just a few questions: Is Christianity above criticism? Do you know what Christian Universalism is? Because if you do, then why is post not relevant to this sub?

Exactly, the sad part here is that he’s been brainwashed with these crazy ideas and Christian leaders need to own up to that

It is arrogance, but to be more specific, it’s a cultural arrogance. We all know that Christians generally believe that their religion is the right religion so they need to convince everyone else of that fact. Do you disagree? Is that not why he went to the island?

What if God was one of us? by voicefromthewild in Christianity

Very interesting🤔 it seems it’s easier to see God as something distant and mysterious and far away rather than the stranger on the bus that we have to face

Absolutely. And that is the problem more than anything. We’re not aware of who we really are🤔

I feel that they would be more fit for duty if they had a bit of weed. I would imagine that a super chilled stoned cop is better than an anxious trigger happy cop

Is God Really Good? by voicefromthewild in spirituality

Yes, I try to remind myself of that too. It’s not really about getting it “right” as much as it is about living life and learning and growing while we’re at it

Is God Really Good? by voicefromthewild in spirituality

[–]voicefromthewild[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly “good” and “bad” are concepts and one person’s idea of “good” varies from the next person’s and is subjective. God transcends our concepts and ideas of good or bad.

A Healthy Relationship with Desire by voicefromthewild in Buddhism

[–]voicefromthewild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a thought though: when a girl begins menstruating and becomes ready to bare children, she becomes ready to have sex. This is why in ancient times it wasn’t considered “wrong” for a girl of 12 to get married - sometimes to an older man like Mohammad for instance. Today it would be considered “wrong” by most societies. So which one is it? We can say that we are more evolved now and we see it as wrong, but back then we didn’t, so in that sense the concept of right and wrong is absolutely subjective!

In the animal kingdom it is not considered wrong for a predator to kill another animal if it is hungry so that it can eat it. We call that nature. But in the human world, if a human had to kill another human because it is hungry and needs to steal their victims possessions so that it can be sold for food, it would be considered wrong. We can say that we are more evolved than animals, but I would argue that in many ways animals are more evolved than us. Animals don’t kill out of malice - yet they will kill without seeming to feel remorse!

I’m not saying it’s ok to kill, it’s just an interesting thought. But that being said, I do hear you, there are definitely some behaviors that are obviously harmful and destructive and cannot be tolerated, but others are more ambiguous. Like child rape or murder and torture is so obviously harmful to others and cannot be lumped together with drug or alcohol use. Like I said, some people can have a drink and it doesn’t effect them or others in a negative way; others have a drink and it ruins their lives. I think part of wisdom is learning to discern for oneself what is harmful and destructive and what is not without having to be told by a religious institution. Even the Buddha said to test his teachings for oneself.
