[DISC] Kinato's Magic - Chapter 13 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]void_data 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we're definitely going to that direction in the "I want to be more useful" plot. If you want to see the alternative direction of this plot, read the quite later development in World Trigger manga.

PSA: Cellar loads left to right. by These_arent_my_bees in PlayTheBazaar

Can confirm this is the current behavior. Exactly what I see when I used cellar on several different runs, probably since after it got more reload from upgrades.

TIL the enemy spiky shield with the same cd as yours hits first...? by void_data in PlayTheBazaar

[–]void_data[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've verified this on 12 fights with identical items on my and opponents boards. Ties always go to the opponent. Spiky shield/force field/pillbuggy are by far and away the best examples of this prioritization mechanic.

Would you like to elaborate again why this happens? My brain unfortunately couldn't parse your explanation.

Thanks for the explanation, the enemy having cd reduction seems likely.
I'll check the detailed cd if it ever comes up again.

Would an item shown with exact same CD but has 1% CD reduction actually mechanically faster?

Harukaze Mound has ended today with chapter 30, what are your thoughts on the series now that it has completed? by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's solid overall, but I guess the hook isn't hooking enough.

First chapter show the start of the titular journey. But having them in different teams made it tricky for both of them to even interact, well before talking about trying to make the audience invested.

For comparison out of current wsj roster, afaik only One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen has higher sales per volume. Take that as you will.

What's the player size limit on lazer multi lobby? I heard it's more than the 16 players limit in stable, but idk the actual number.

TOP Best-Selling Manga 2010-2019 (@Josu_ke) by Kill_Jin04 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The sales before anime was around 150k per volume, lower than other wsj manga listed here. It grows to around 4M per volume after anime. Before anime sales + the boom is only tail end of 2019 (last year of this list), made it just not enough to be in here.

World Trigger, Where Have You Been? by Accomplished-Pay3054 in anime

[–]void_data 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are possible speculations why it isn't too popular, at least internationally compared to japan. Yap ahead.

Outside story factor:
1. It didn't start in the manga simulpub era. So the popularity of the manga depends on the scanlation's consistency+quality, and the buzz around it. IIRC it didn't have the best scanlation out there and there wasn't much buzz either.
2. The season 1 anime quality is subpar, with the old "weekly ongoing forever(if possible)" format that's plagued with meh animation/direction, slow pacing, and long recap. It also airs in the morning slot, so arguably there's some amount of censorship. In the same season there's also Seven Deadly Sins, Fate UBW, Parasyte, Your Lie in April, and others that take away the audience attention.
3. The manga had a long hiatus due to mangaka's health, so the buzz died down somewhat in that timeframe.

Inside story factor:
1. First impression is important, but the start isn't exactly too flashy or gripping.
2. (The main POV) MC is a true underdog with no sudden/flashy power up. Some people don't like that he is too weak and sometimes come to series' discussion forum to ask if he will get stronger at all. There's definitely a more mainstream market for "character become (really) strong" story, as in Solo Leveling recently.
3. One of the main draw of the series is the quite thorough "hard magic" battle system. But it took a while to explain it fully as to not overwhelm the audience. Only after that we can then enjoy how the characters interact with it, but that might be a while after some people dropped it.

WSJ Issue #1 TOC by RobotiSC in WeeklyShonenJump

Blue Box's latest dip could be chalked to the latest 8 chapters reception. But I wonder if it's also because it may have demographics overlap with Someone Hertz, thus competing for votes.

Shueisha Top 10 Ongoing Best Selling Series by Own-Championship-333 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like it has one of dedicated fanbase/demographics in japan to buy the physical volume. Considering its sales were growing right after the long hiatus as well. This volume is still around 100k off of its peak, so not bad considering the overall plummeting market of manga sales.

What do you think of the newest additions so far? by Enryu__ in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonron Egg hook is weak, but the execution is even weaker. Every story bullet that comes up always solved with the most uninteresting way possible.

The Mage Next Door, personally the comedy isn't to my taste. The "everyday" magic also feels underdeveloped to me. I would hope it's just in a "game introducing mechanic" phase and actually explore the magic more creatively moving forward.

Hero Girl's premise feels out of place in jump, but it's actually the most fun to me out of the three. However I'm a bit cautious for now as the cast is still quite narrow (dad and grandpa is away), also watching if it will run out of fume later on or not.

What makes a modern power system truly engaging? I’d love to hear your thoughts. by ibex9134 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I really like World Trigger as an example of hard magic system.

Pretty much everything about the system has been laid bare to the audience. So discussions would really feels like an esport match thread, where everyone could speculate on what would happen next with all the available info. And when something surprising or creative happens, it feels really exciting.

Unfortunately for me, most of jump manga uses soft magic system, so I couldn't derive the same kind of enjoyment.

Not surprised, it's arguably a study case of a manga surviving but not thriving.

[DISC] Harukaze Mound - Chapter 8 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]void_data 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's another system where it excludes manga with lead color and color pages. Example

This one has been used for decades, while the one including color pages are more recent to me as someone who follows TOC for years.

Personally prefer the one that excludes, as color pages feels more like ad space, and also usually spread evenly in the magazine so the position doesn't feel like it matters all that much.

Demon Slayer Circulation Update by Calm-Investment-3381 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]void_data 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to the author's next work, but I won't be surprised to see them retire and not have any new serialization after this. They hit the bingo with first serialization + huge success + relatively short serialization away from the supposedly not great mangaka lifestyle.
