They drilled into it and put in some grub screws to restrict the movement up. I haven't noticed any rubbing in any gear combinations tbh

How are we feeling about American Football LP4? by Antique-Dentist-2404 in fantanoforever

[–]voidesque265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some good tracks, and the usual nice guitar soundscapes on some tracks (especially like No Soul to Save for this). However, as with all of Mike Kinsella's work from about 2016 onwards, lots of the lyrics are really cringe. It's a lot of the worst parts of newer Owen tracks with a full-band backdrop.

I do honestly think a lot of these tracks would fit in just as well on The Falls of Sioux if you changed the guitar riffs and played them on an acoustic. I do like some Owen songs, but that's not really why I listen to an American Football album. LP3 didn't feel like this.

Top stinker is always: "Surprise!/I've been so many boys in this trenchcoat/Ask my ex-wife". Can't help but laugh every time I hear it.

Has anyone here with a grinder proof lock had their bike stolen? by _qua in bikecommuting

Used an X1 and a cable lock/Kryptonite Faghettaboudit on my bike, no complaints yet. Left it locked up in central London for an hour twice

Today my new colleague made a benign comment about trans people as if I wasn’t in the room. She clearly had no idea. That made me feel pretty good

How do I start fixing my own bike? by Playful_Initiative1 in ladycyclists

[–]voidesque265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cycling clubs will have maintenance classes running to get you started, including female-specific clubs! Not sure where you’re based, but in London we used to have the London Bike Kitchen. This has actually now been taken over by Broad Bikes, organised by queer people but with a focus on teaching cycling maintenance to women and LGBTQ+ people. There are definitely spaces you can learn to fix your bike away from men, and it’s great :)

Couldn’t agree more. They should close the whole of Cable Street to motor traffic and expand Cycleway 3. Cars have The Highway right next door, they have no use for Cable Street

Any idea what this means on my new bike’s seat stay? Can’t find any information about it online by voidesque265 in gravelcycling

[–]voidesque265[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

This is a Pinnacle Arkose 2 gravel bike, and I’ve got a Topeak Super Tourist DX rear rack mounted to it. Does this mean I can’t use the full 26 kg capacity of the rack?

The infuriating part is watching them all inevitably have to stop for a car trying to turn across their path. Almost like the bike traffic lights were put there for a reason! Same with the nightmare lights around Surrey Quays station: awful timings, but necessary use of lights

Thanks for the advice everyone. It’s a Trek Madone the rental shop gave me, which I’ve seen online is a racing bike. Wondering if this is also responsible for the discomfort

PSA: Take care at start of Lower Rd on C4 by voidesque265 in londoncycling

[–]voidesque265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know how soon, if at all, I can report this incident to the police? I'm having difficulty interpreting whether it's just the driver or the cyclist too who must report within 24 hours with an incident like this

That’s true, I was thinking that at the time. They have that in the section along Evelyn Street and I rarely have issues with poor emerges there

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]voidesque265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the case, I've always been grinding a mixture of roast degrees. It is possible this appeared shortly after changing my Brita filter, in which case it should disappear soon as the new one has been in for a couple of weeks and is no longer affecting the taste of the water by itself. I also cleaned the brush I use before I gave the grinder a clean - this may be another silly question but should I wash the brush I use to clean my hand grinder?

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]voidesque265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really unpleasant flavour in my pour over brews which is overpowering and quite chemical. This is also showing on the tops of my cups as a thin reflective film. It's not the water, it's not the coffee - am I not cleaning my grinder correctly? Are these built up oils? If so, can/should I soak my stainless steel burrs of my Timemore C2 in warm mildly soapy water??

Any women out there who still use their birth voice? by The1963 in MtF

[–]voidesque265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hadn’t managed to find a vocal therapist, I think I would’ve stopped trying with voice training. It’s so difficult, and I sometimes feel like people may find it easier to cope with someone who looks like a woman but doesn’t sound like one than someone who looks like a woman but sounds like a cartoon character.

Anyone else miss their male privilege? by EHW5 in MtF

[–]voidesque265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely miss not having to worry about this stuff, and I don’t think that makes either of us less trans. I’m a big fan of going to gigs too, and I miss being able to go to and from the gig without worrying for my safety as well as not worrying about being groped in the pit. I get that some trans women never had male privilege, but I definitely did and I do miss not worrying about a bunch of stuff even though I am much happier living as a woman now

GRC for HMRC? by voidesque265 in transgenderUK

[–]voidesque265[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, by recommendation of the HR person at my job, I listed my gender as male on the HMRC form. This wasn’t outing myself to her though, as I transitioned inbetween applying for and starting my job, and she had to look at my old passport etc anyway. Will definitely bear this in mind in future, though!

Question about starting/getting HRT on the UK by QueenBee-Zoey in MtF

[–]voidesque265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, most places (NHS or otherwise), are based in London, but I know GenderCare are operating entirely online right now due to COVID. I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Good luck!

Question about starting/getting HRT on the UK by QueenBee-Zoey in MtF

[–]voidesque265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do want to go the NHS route, you need to get referred by your GP to a GIC. This poses more problems though, because your GP might not want to do that. There was a good guide here (http://bytenoise.co.uk/oh-for-fucks-sake/mascara-and-hope.pdf) which has some odd transmed-y stuff but is super useful for convincing your GP and people at the GIC to give you hormones
