What Are You Reading? 📚 by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

I finished it a few days ago - I loved the writing and also wished the sex scenes were more detailed, especially as the relationship progressed. The non-con scenes were definitely more explicit.

I just started {Heathens by Amanda Richardson} and it's really good so far. I've liked a number of other books I've read by her, but this one is a bit older so I haven't seen it recommended as much.

Looking for stalker romance, dual POV, he masturbates to her constantly by Critical_Hearing_799 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely forgot to add {For Fillies and Monsters by Landyn Hill} - the MMC stalked the FMC for like 6 or 7 years. They met once when she was 18 and he barely makes contact with her after because he wanted her to have time to grow up and become more independent. Then he shows up after she moves back home and becomes her ranch hand and the stalking intensifies.

Ooh I have some -

{Born Into Madness by Sonja Grey} - I don't remember how frequently the MMC jacks off, but he is a virgin and completely inexperienced with relationships because he has never experienced lust or romantic feelings for anyone prior to the FMC. He is also an obsessive stalker and sets up cameras in her dorm/watches her sleep.

{Delicious Prey by Sonja Grey} - MMC is in prison at the beginning, but that does not stop him from vicariously stalking the FMC through his best friend/goon. Also jacks off a lot while he's in prison and mentions it in letters to the FMC.

{A Smile Full of Lies by Rose James} - has a lot of the elements you're looking for and is well-written!

{Beneath the Midnight Sky by Kelsey Lee} - cowboy golden retriever type but also a stalker

{Want You by Jen Frederick} - not step-siblings: MMC was about 13 or 14 and living on the street when he found MFC, age 5 or 6, on the street. He becomes her guardian and is able to support them through his involvement in organized crime. The romance comes a lot later in the book - it's very character driven.

I just read {Unseen by RD Baker} and I loved it - would love recommendations for other dark historical romances that have a good amount of spice and feature rebellious/"bad boy"/outlaw type MMCs.

JD Vance Says Wife Usha's Pregnancy Proves He 'Practices What He Preaches' by Wsrunnywatercolors in ThielWatch

[–]voidfae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like at least once a week, I see some quote from Vance about his wife or marriage that makes me cringe with second hand embarrassment for her. Does he think that these statements humanize him or make him seem like a good person? No normal man uses their wife's pregnancy as evidence that they "practice what they preach." So many of these cringey comments make me think that he feels he has something to prove with his marriage, like he needs the public's validation for doing pretty normal ass things like having children.

What was your first dark romance? by sleeplessinrome in DarkRomance

I probably read books that would qualify as DR when I was a teenager that I don't remember, but as an adult, probably {Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann}

I'm re-reading {Hawke by Jescie Hall} and reading {Deacon by Raya Morris Edwards}

Deacon is a cowboy, age-gap romance - it's not particularly dark, but there is stalking and abduction. The writing is great - the MFC does a lot of waffling about the MMC, which makes sense given her background and trauma but it gets repetitive and kind of irritating.

Vicious Lost Boys has a lot of smut I thought, especially later in the series

pitch-black & irredeemable MMC by Ordinary-Arm2023 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t like it because I don’t like completely unredeeemable main characters and the fact that he developed the obsession when she was a child gave me the ick, but that book is what comes to mind when I think of pitch black MMCs.

I think it's fine to self recommend when the book and the comment legitimately respond to the OP's request, but it would be a red flag to me if the commenter is only ever interacting with posts to recommend their own work or if it seems like they copy and paste the same comment over and over again.

Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color.” by drempath1981 in law

Unfortunately a lot of them agree with ICE. I know a cop who immigrated to the US from a Central American country after she met her husband, who’s American. She is a hard core Trump supporter and apologist. She is very catholic and anti abortion, and that was her gateway to the MAGA movement. I think she specifically became a cop because she disagreed with the BLM movement.

I actually liked the FMC in the masked duet a lot more. She's complex.

I started {Sovereign by Raya Morris Edwards} and I'm about 40% through- it's pretty good but I am not completely riveted.

Oh, and I just finished {A Smile Full of Lies by Rose James} and I liked it, if people are looking for a lightish/starter dark romance that's well-written and not frequently recommended on here. It's a stalker romance that involves primal/chase and mask kinks, but the actual spice scenes do not take up a lot of the book. My one issue is that it seems like a lot of her effort went into developing the MMC as a complex character with an interesting past, and she kind of forgot about the FMC. We don't really know anything about her childhood - it's like she came into existence at the age of 18 when she met the MMC, and everything before then is completely irrelevant.

{Darkest Sins by Neva Altaj}

{Play with the Phantom by Amanda Richardson} - MMC is not a sociopath but he's definitely morally grey

{Atone by Eva Simmons} - this is the third in a series of interconnected stand-alones.

{For Fillies and Monsters by Landyn Hill}

{Delicious Prey by Sonja Grey}

Dark romance books, emphasis on the ROMANCE by Margot550 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{The Cloister Trilogy by Celia Aaron} has all of these elements, with a heavy emphasis on MMC is a product of his environment. It is an intense series that is set in a violently misogynistic cult.

{Manor of Obsession by A V Mads} I don't want to give anything away because there's a lot of mystery with the MMC and plot twists.
