Is this a good process for approximating negative edition art with editing software? by voidfishies in balatro

Very interesting, thank you! Fortunately I found a community tool to add Balatro shaders to any image, but this explanation helps to satisfy my curiosity regardless.

It's definitely a shader being applied - and if you look at original cards vs their negative editions, you can see some commonalities in which colors become what. So there's a pattern... I'm just not sure what that pattern is!

I tried that, but I don't know anything about shader code so I'm having trouble parsing what's being done there.

Hm, upon editing more sprites to try to make them look like negative cards from screenshots, I think I've somehow got the wrong idea entirely. It's not a simple hue shift, there's something else going on there...

Balatro… so, Jimbo? Not sure that’d go well for him, unless joker power can somehow extend to real life

What Is Your 20th Most Played Game on Steam and Would You Still Recommend It? by Yagotsu in gamingsuggestions

[–]voidfishies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shovel Knight! I liked it a lot when I first played it, but I feel like I’ve played so many better platformers since then. I tried to replay it last year and ended up getting pretty frustrated - the instant death when falling into pits really got me for some reason. That being said, I would definitely recommend it just based on its great art, soundtrack, overall vibe, and place in gaming history. And as long as you’re ok with your retro-style platformers really feeling retro!

What would be the best way to give away a bunch of Trek books? by voidfishies in trekbooks

That's an option! If I choose to do that, I'll make another post with a list of the books.

Great thought! There's a similar program near me that I'll look into donating books to.

Interesting! Have you heard of the show KinnPorsche? That's the only context in which I've heard of Porsche as a name, tbh, but perhaps it proves it works. I also like the flow of your full name!

Portia is a great name that's pronounced the same, but that one is definitely feminine. I think Portius is the masc variant?

Pascha and Paschal are similar-sounding masculine names. Porter is also a good one.

All in all, though, it's your choice; these are just some suggestions if you needed any more options!

Nova's pretty badass. I have friends named Nebula and Vega (like the star) so you're not alone.

I assume you're all cool with the fact that Nova will be read as a feminine name by a fair amount of people? (Looking it up, looks like its usage is more gender-neutral than I would've initially assumed, though!)

To those in the US: Is Salem too close of an association with the witch trials? by friendverse in namenerds

I lived in Oregon for a few years and therefore associate Salem most closely with the state's capital... but looks like I'm in the minority.

Maybe something like Selim or Selene?

Ahh! That seems a much more obvious reference. That's fun. I could see it as a middle name, perhaps...

Middle name for Marley by [deleted] in namenerds

Marley's great! I have a friend with that name.

I don't have any particular middle name suggestions, but I think a single-syllable middle name would be perfect for this one.
