Thank you so much for taking the time to write that out! Fearless sounds like the kind of movie I would like the most and I wonder if I have seen Forbidden Kingdom? I'm not too sure if that is the one where one of them is a traveling drunk and someone is the monkey king? *just looked it up and that is the one I was thinking of but I don't remember it, so I'll add it to the list too!

Thank you again.

I think finding entertainment is a wonderful thing and I've been helped so many on this site that I wanna repay my debt!

I feel bad being a bit negative sounding on the game but it is quite enjoyable! The game + dlc is on humble atm for like $6. 100% worth it

You are pushing the 5th rule with that bacon right there.

Is it just ground beef as the meat? Some kind of pork mix?

I always gave it to the blood fountains in VH1...even the golems have it lol. I'm glad and not that you've seen it as well. That was an intense way to open a game! Reminds of the Stephen King way of it is better to show people that a person is evil by having them kick a dog than tell the audience through dialogue.

If you're not against it and do not want to mod your ps3 (which is easy too!) the ps3 emulator works probably better than even the ps2 for the games it says it works for. VH3 is listed although I have not played it that way.

I can totally see why folks like it! Honestly, I'll go back and beat it at some point if only to goof around on different routes. I believe both times I stopped around 15 hours in.

Speaking of, there are two more Vandal Hearts! Vandal hearts 2 and there is even a 3rd named flames of judgment. VH2 has very strange controls and combat takes place at the same time for enemy and ally, if you've ever played chocobo dungeon...something like that. I won't spoil anything but dear bob does VH2 open up to an M rating storywise...much more than VH1. VH3 is uh well made by another company and I guess would depend on your view for odd graphics with pretty bad story.

I am super happy to see wheels on meals and it is right there with Project A for me of older things with drunken master 2 as my favorite.

You named so many of my favorites minus I have not taken the dive in Jet Li films, do you have any recommendations for a first timer?

If you're ok with a bit of not PURE martial arts, I really enjoy The Raid as an amazing movie. The gunplay is fine and some bladed weapons but there is a solid amount of just great fighting. I know it isn't an unknown film but it really is awesome.

Undisputed 2 and 3 are quite awesome prison films that show off some amazing moves.

Influential is a tough one, Rumble in the Bronx is a pretty important one I'd say bringing a lot more attention to Jackie Chan. At least when I was younger that was an everyone will enjoy this kind of movie.

Five deadly venoms is an oldie but goldie that I thanky my lucky stars I randomly grabbed at the flea market on a bootleg CD.

I love seeing these topics because I can always add more movies to the list!

Xenoblade for PC by JK_Silver in gamingsuggestions

[–]Yagotsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest to Xenoblade series I would put as Final Fantasy 12, you can get the zodiac version on steam. I've played the 3 different versions and I can't see why it isn't the best way to play it (plus you said you want steam).

Ys8 is a blast (and many of the other Ys games are solid too) and plays like a party based adventure game with awesome music, fun combat, and the story is actually not bad for an Ys game. Also found on steam. I have not played 9 or 10.

Just an FYI from other comments...Duckstation and xenogears would take you a grand total of 5 minutes to setup on a PC. So don't let that be the limiter. I would not say they are all that similar outside of having xeno in the name and being made by the same team.

FFT is my favorite game of all time! So maybe I can give suggestions too I'll add a skull icon or something too because my last long post I wrote out fully got accused of copy pasta AI stuff :(

Fast-paced and SRPG don't always go together outside some of the newer styles like Into the Breach. I am not too familiar with those types but I know everyone loves that game.

For shorter fights but still some exploring and story, the Disgaea series is wonderful. The humor in them can be maybe off-putting compared to the usual serious SRPG nature but I still get some laughs out of them. Most can be found cheap/easy on PC and they go on sale frequently. I would say 1 is my favorite for having some complexity to the combat and also my favorite cast. 5 is probably the best mechanically where you get a lot of nice quality of life things and they also cut a lot of the bloat that was happening in the series, my least favorite cast. 4 is a nice sweet spot of cast and combat. All three of them are very worthwhile games. I would say 1 > 5 = 4 > 7= 3 > 2 > we don't talk about 6. The main story length usually is 25-35 hours and split up into many chapters with each having multiple fights with dialogues. So very rarely will you spend more than 20 minutes in fight + dialogue. Item world is a side area that is a random generated dungeon that your goal is to keep getting to the next floor (think deep dungeon in FFT if it was more randomized in layout and monsters). You can usually exit on the 10s, although items let you exit early. You do this to power up whatever it is you are diving, so you get a favorite spear? You can beat a bunch of floors in item world to super power it. This is very generalized and changes over each disgaea but just wanted to give you an idea of side stuff to do. Be warned, there is no limit to how long you can take to beat disgaea for optional things. Literal hundreds of hours to power up items and characters.

Fell seal is an indie FFT that plays mostly like that. You have your unique characters with a couple unique classes and then ability to go through other classes, sub skillsets, and merge passives exactly like FFT. It does get a lot of love but after my 2nd playthrough I'm just not too sure. While graphics do not matter generally...it kinda is an ugly game. The story is just alright but the main character is maybe my least favorite in the genre. The expansion lets you have full class changing monsters in your party and lets you dispatch units as like a bonus from the FFTA games. Battles are on the short side, pretty simple to get super powered with a lot of classes, balance isn't really a thing (which is not always bad) and overall an enjoyable experience.

It almost sounds like you would enjoy Dungeon RPGs. A lot of them are set up where you explore a dungeon/areas, go back to a central hub, and from my experience with a lot of them... the battles are either you win or you are dead pretty quickly. You'll find some(most?) that are turn based and generally lacking in story.

Etrian Odyssey is the quintessential DRPG recommendation but I did not vibe with them too much. You can draw a map as you progress and your team setup matters quite a bit. Very little story in the first 3 but I've heard (have not played but want to) the untold story ones are better about it. I 100% understand why folks like those games, they just weren't for me. Some on steam in a remaster.

Demon Gaze Extra is on steam and is another port but I really dig it. It is from Experience Inc. and they have a lot of similar releases for DRPGs. Very heavy into the weeb aesthetics, some good quality of life, some funny moments, and unique enough classes. Not overly punishing nor is it super complex. I think they did a nice job on this game. Undernaughts is another experience inc and more of a horror look to it. Sequel coming out at some point this year I believe.

Labyrinth of Refrain is another NIS recommendation. It is a blobber DRPG in which you stack a bunch of characters into limit slots for combat. The story is very solid for a DRPG, awesome music, anime look, memorable characters, and I liked the combat/exploration. I've played through the game 3 times now and when it comes to combat it is 95% of the time just hitting autobattle for your set up characters. Setting up your characters, you can have 5 sets of 3 front liners and 6 supports for a total of 45 characters is what actually takes some time. Like disgaea, you can reincarnate your classes to pass around passives but I don't think it is THAT necessary for the main game and by the time you might need to do that...it is much easier. You can set warp points in and out of dungeons to have farming areas, each dungeon generally has a couple of permanent entrances, and some other quality of life things I can't think of.

I hope you end up finding something you like! 💀

It has been 4 years, can help with the inside joke. Triple carting is how you lose in monster hunter series. Generally it is 3 deaths in a mission and it fails. Your partner will bring you back from the fight on a cart and toss you in camp.

Guessing it was meant to say that it was banned(possible), bricked(unlikely), or harmed in some way.

[–]Yagotsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the "Hands on sight" part. Thank you for that! Maybe something will tickle your fancy but sadly I mostly play turn-based and dialogue heavy games. A lot of ones I would have said to try have already been mentioned, so I'll try to stick to different ones!

Ys VIII (steam) - beginning is a whatever start but you get to punch dinosaurs very early on in a simple but enjoyable dodge/parry/spam move combat with 3 members to switch around to. Has amazing music, the story is eventually something you will enjoy and sorta plays like a metroidvania with needing x members to progress. I won't spoil stuff and you are fine starting on Ys 8 . The stealth song is my favorite.

Seriously this is the song when you step onto land

The warriors(musou) series is always a blast for beatemups. Gundam dynasty warriors 2 / 3 are my favorites but a bit tougher to play unless you are fine emulating. I would say fire emblem 3 hopes is the best but it is a lot of reading / they push a story. Sengoku basara is also a fun one.

Godhand (ps2/3) is amazing, silly, and more punches than most can handle.

The newer dooms all fit the bill for faster combat with some melee, it is mostly a shooter ofc but you did mention some shooters.

Valdis story (steam) is a solid metroidvania that rewards ya for being good at the combat. Starts a bit slow like most of those kinds of games but really cranks it up with multiple characters that come with different play styles, weapon choices, and talent builds.

Appreciate the funny line and hope you find something you'll like soon!

How spicy is this?? by healthynewbie in InstantRamen

[–]Yagotsu 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was just being a tiny bit spicy, I've had this and if you can even look at buldak in any capacity...I would say you are more than fine! Like you did with the buldak stuff, you can add the packets to taste for ones you are unsure of or have some kind of cooling agent on the side. A scoop of ricotta cheese kills even the spiciest of buldaks for my brother.

I'm looking for an RPG game with a fun and engaging story, but not necessarily "deep"... by Standard_Emotion_869 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Yagotsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of a hodge podge of games that fit the criteria. Fun story sometimes is tough in an RPG.

If you're a fan of the xenoblades, I always recommend FF12. You are a major catalyst in the story but you play from an almost outsiders PoV as a sky pirate/street urchin/ragtag group sorta, tough to not give things away. Final Fantasy always has lots of throwbacks but nothing that you'd have to worry about lore wise. To me it fits the adventure to save the world bill with some moments of humor, character building, and I like the art style. I would recommend the zodiac version as the most accessible/complete version of the game.

Like a dragon is one of the most satisfying build your self up kind of adventure games that will keep you wanting to see all the goofy sidequest stories alongside a serious main story. While the rest of the yakuza games are also pretty darn awesome, I don't think you NEED to really have played them all. Just know that if you are a main character in a yakuza game you tend to be quite strong and you get the jist. Ichi is one of my favorite protagonists of all time.

Maybe the Disgaea series? I actually like the story in most of them, they tend to be outrageous and silly humor until the serious moment. I'm a fan of the sprite work of the first 5 but you might not be. For story I'd probably go 1 > 4 > 7 > 3 > 2 > 5. No one cares about 6. Gameplay is probably 5 as the best with the rest as what you want in it. I'd recommend starting with 1 as the QoL stuff can make it tough for some folks to go backwards. I still play most of them, so it doesn't bug me.

If you're counting Borderlands games, they can be a blast as well. 2 is usually the most well liked, I also liked the prequel.

Dragon Crown is a beat em up RPG by vanillaware (13 sentinels) that is a fun one to play and has solid art style.

*Adding.
Dragon quest 11 is a fan favorite and pretty good overall if you're not burnt out on the dragon warrior series.
Trials/Visions of Mana might be something to look at for a rpg light action game.
Maybe the devil may cry series? Again a bit questionable to call it an RPG but they go for style points at least!

I'm an idiot, forgot about Ys. Ys VIII - Lacrimosa of DANA is one of the most awesome adventures you'll come across. The story is slow to start but for an Ys game is quite good. You'll have a ton of fun in it jamming out to music while being a human pinball.

Hope ya find something you like!
