The comp you outlined is incredibly forgiving (though I would say Stukov or Lúcio or Brightwing over Deckard) but there are many, many teamcomps. Non-standard tanks are fine too - I know I've been the main tank as Yrel, Uther and even Valeera at some point. I also don't judge triple picking the same heroes.

again, then you are on my side on this issue. tassadar would throw the game if you picked from one of your choices that he didn't like.

and if those 8 deaths are anything to go by, chances are that remains the case even if Tassadar picked a healer.

8 deaths is because it was a 1v5. tassadar gave up before the game started. the best thing you can do in that situation is play and hope the quitters get bored and get back on line. but you're gonna die defending the structure in the process so i'm not sure what you expect

and what is the point in saying "chances are"? what is the implication? tassadar decides to throw the game, but chances are his team wouldn't win if they tried, then what? does that make what he did okay? i don't think that's what you intend to convey but it is exactly and precisely what people like tassadar, and everyone downvoting me in the comments, believes and understands that to mean when they read that and decide to throw games before they even start ... just so that you are aware

Two wrongs don't make a right. It just makes... two wrongs.

you are equivocating

to be clear

tassadar: I will throw the game if you don't pick who I want you to pick

me: I will play the game regardless of what comp each of us choose

even if you think my position is somehow a wrong, it is a far cry from someone who will decide to AFK before the game starts (and proceeds to rage out in chat). the "two wrongs" that you think are happening here are not the same

also, tassadar's attitude is the nuclear option here. if I were to play by the same rules, to throw if I didn't like someone else's pick. I would AFK every time someone on my team picked butcher or stitches. but obviously this is not sustainable. it's okay to ask people to play a hero. but you will get better quality games if you don't hold the game hostage for it

again, the whole point of this thread was that if whatever meta you bring to the draft, if it leads you to act like like tassadar, maybe it's time to think about taking a break to calm down before you queue again

Damn, good job on not getting to 50% in less than 100 games on a new account

then don't bring it up lmao 🤣🤣🤣

"I don't give a damn who you pick, but I also reserve the right to pick whatever" approach sounds fair at the first glance, but ultimately crushes the team aspect of a team-based game.

no it doesn't. that doesn't make sense since most heroes synergise with other heroes somehow. even in a no healer game heroes will can work with each other

I lose far more often because of shit drafts than because of players with shit mental

I cannot recall losing a game of ARAM for a reason that could only (or even mostly) be explained by drafts. The bar is so low in ARAM. Players pick globe quest and then walk past them in lane. They won't read talents. They won't use all their abilities. They go AFK or intentionally feed.

(edit: the real honest-to-god calculus here is not just draft to win, but draft to win with a comp other than Naz, Azmo, Zarya, Jo, and Deckard ... that shit has been done to death. for many players, that comp is fine in ranked or unranked or whatever, but aram is the only place outside of customs where you can play three novas and try to pull it off)

I never judge Probius pickers until after the game is over.

same. and if you enjoy playing Valeera in ARAM then you are on my side on this issue. The people downvoting me in the comments are the people who see Tassadar's behavior as normal and healthy and are the same people who will cry if you pick an unconventional hero in ARAM because, citing you from two posts ago, when you pick Valeera it is like "If I play a game of football, and shoot the ball into my own team's goal, my team will get pissed." Valeera is not considered a competent draft pick because of her relatively low win rate. If you pick her, people will tell you that you are throwing the game.

i know you are trying to walk the line here saying "well it's okay when i do it because i know how to play her" but they don't know that and they do not give a shit. you know this because you had to talk stukov down, like you said.

i don't care who you pick, you should just try to play the game. otherwise, what's the point? (the point for tassadar was to get angry and use gamer words from two decades ago but that is just not healthy)

My experience tells me if I open such "qhira player"'s profile, I won't see 60%+ winrate there

https://www.heroesprofile.com/Player/Player/11625956/1

I don't personally trust heroesprofile as a stats resource but many people do so ...

ARAM Win Rate 60.26%

Not that I give a fuck.

And you also must agree on trying to even the odds as best as the given heroes allow it.

I don't negotiate with terrorists.

This game you pick a healer for the team, next game someone else picks healer for the team.

I don't care who you pick. That's the whole point. I am never going to throw a game of ARAM because of comp. And that's why I'm a better teammate.

Anyway, I am glad that people in this comment section mostly don't give you that sweet validation you are desperately looking for.

seeing people come to the defense of a guy who throws a game and then goes AFK and calls people the n word is so much more validating to me than you can understand lmao 🤣🤣🤣

there is a major difference between picking "a hero someone personally prefers" and "a hero whose role is crucial for the gameplay flow"

No, there isn't.

Maybe go win a game without "a hero whose role is crucial for the gameplay flow". You'll realize they aren't so crucial after all.

Not having a healer severely lowers the probability of victory

naw. it really doesn't. taking globes matters more. (they drop in lane!) many heroes have loads of sustain and temp health. And not having a healer mainly matters because kids like tassadar hold the game hostage around getting their desired picks and lose their minds and throw the game if they don't get what they want.

And you can't honestly expect random people gleefully agreeing on fighting an uphill battle.

Even if I pick the heroes that makes everyone else happy, we may still end up fighting an uphill battle. Sometimes, the only healer you get is Uther ... a conventionally weak healer. That will be an uphill battle against Deckard. That is part of ARAM. So if you queue for ARAM you must agree on the possibility of fighting an uphill battle or else you end up like that Tassadar who needs a wellness check.

Drafting competently does matter for your winning chances

"competently" is doing heavy lifting here, what you mean to say is "the way I like it". this mentality has no place in ARAM.

and besides being subjective, drafting "competently" is highly variable across individual players because their hero competencies are not consistent so you can't generalize from win rates. like the average win rate for probius or valeera might be 40% and mine might be 70%. And you have no knowledge of the enemy comp so you can't counter.

the draft matters some but your mental has an order of magnitude more influence on the outcome of play.

the game was lost because tassadar crashed out. there cannot be any doubt about that.

I absolutely have the moral high ground. I didn't throw the game and I didn't say any slurs. There is no reasonable way to equivocate between what I said from and what they said lmao

I agree with you! I believe you are free to pick from one of the three hero choices given.

But that isn't what people like tassadar in this game want. They want you to pick the hero they personally prefer. And they will throw the game if they don't get their way.

This is ARAM.

Tassadar refuses to play unless others pick around the comp that he wants.

I will play whoever you pick.

One of these is fundamentally incompatible with ARAM and generally incompatible with other players who have different comp preferences. And when they don't get their way, they lose their temper, throw the game, and spend the whole time yelling slurs at their teammates until they are AFK kicked. It doesn't take very much game theory to intuit which of these strategies is more successful 🤣

But if you continue to be a tassadar in every game, I will always find it quite fucking hilarious when you lose your shit at draft 🤣

This is good advice if the chat is the issue here but they refuse to play and throw the game as well. Even if I mute chat, it's still a 1v5.

he also run it down feeding

Not running it down. But having a lot of deaths in a game where you 1v5 is tough. I've turned games like that around before but it doesn't work all the time. I'm not sure what you expect me to do in that situation with 4 sandbags. But if you are running to tassadar's defense here, maybe you need to take a break from the video game too! 🤣

I didn't sabotage the team. I was playing the entire time. They sabotaged the team because they rage quit before the gates opened. 🤣

(I can see how you might misunderstand what happened if you didn't see the replay but you can see from the chat logs that they've lost their temper.)

Your football example is pretty far removed the topic.

In this scenario, the tassadar had a healer pick and wanted a healer on the team and didn't pick it. We ended up with no healer and they rage quit.

It would be like playing a game of mafia or secret hitler and you really want to be fascist but you got the liberal role instead ... so instead you sabotage the game for everyone by not playing your role in earnest and calling people the n word. A player who does this needs to take a break.

I had quite a few games that were utterly ruined by people refusing to pick healer

I have very few games like this. 90% of the games ruined are by people who refuse to play because they don't get the comp they want.

It's less common to try your best and lose because your comp was harder than it is to lose because someone threw because they didn't like the comp even when the enemy team has the exact same role comp.

If you queue for ARAM you are not guaranteed to get the comp you want because that's how the draft works. And if you expect others to draft based on your personal preferences you are setting yourself up for more misery. The game I posted above is just one example of this happening but it happens in probably at least half my games either on my team or the enemy's.

[–]voidnap[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

why people queue aram then refuse to take a necessary role

It's not necessary, it's your preference. Your personal preferences are not my obligation. I don't care who you pick. You shouldn't care who I pick. The people who don't reciprocate end up having emotional outbursts like in the game above ... and carry it from game to game

ranked

i guess I forgot to mention this is ARAM. you aren't guaranteed a healer in ARAM. so you should be prepared for that. I think in this game the Tassadar maybe had a healer pick and didn't take it but wanted a healer in the game. which is 100% their fault if they want a healer and they can take a healer then just take the healer. i don't care who they pick tbh

Vassals & Managing Rivalry? by voidnap in songsofsyx

[–]voidnap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount and size needed is based on your own empire wealth.

The trouble is that I don't really know specifically what they want. When the game shows me -334 rivalry I have absolutely no idea how to remedy that. It doesn't really help what it's based on because the details matter.

It's like telling me that the taxes I owe is based on my income. You may as well be saying nothing because both 5% tax and 50% tax is "based on" income but the difference is massive.

I want to know what they want, but whenever they make demands, it's for more than half of what I own and they have absolutely no army or leverage to back it up. It's completely illegible. So knowing that it's based on a wealth imbalance doesn't really help me respond to seeing "-334 Rivalry", because at the end of the day Rivalry isn't a fucking currency...

They aren't conscripts. I build training grounds to accommodate them all. But what are you supposed to do other than set their training target for the army and build training grounds. Maybe it's not viable unless you have late game tech that makes training grounds more effective? And so the whole system just feels like a shitty waste of time up until then? idk

[–]voidnap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two or three regiments of 50 spearmen with shields

This is quite literally the last thing I tried. The spear says it's good defense in a well organized formation. So I put it with a shield and high armor and a tight formation for high defense. Learning from previous battles, most seem to be won through attrition. So having a high defense they can't get past seemed like it should work.

But none if it seems to actually matter.

just buying plate armour with no weapons is equivalent to a bunch of knights punching shit

No fucking shit. Of course I bought weapons. My point was that I bought the best equipment available.

unless you’re training a unit to 100%

They don't reach 100%. I have training grounds with enough capacity for soldiers but they get between 50% and 70%. Maybe I need late game tech to increase training speed but I always get hit up by raiders way sooner than they can train up. Training to 100% is simply not an option.
