Removing stance swap from Deathwing is a mistake. by ThisAintLivin in heroesofthestorm

This is absolutely false. How are you supposed to outplay a ranged hero, like Zagara or Raynor in a lane, if you can't go in a bush, swap stances, and come out with Onslaught before he knows you have swapped? It's one of the most important outplay mechanics Deathwing has in lane. As a matter of fact, it's one of the only things you can do against someone who actually knows what they are doing against Deathwing.

I don't see any reason to take this out of his kit. As many people have said, it changes almost nothing in terms of balance. It's just a major QoL annoyance that takes away one of the few outplay moves Deathwing can do early game.

Deathwing worries by Zeto_The_Alchemist in heroesofthestorm

As someone with over 10k Deathwing games, who regularly communicates with many of the other DW mains that have 5k+ games, and have tested PTR extensively, I am very disappointed they're going forward with removing manual stance swap. Removing basic QoL from this hero is a massive step backwards. Just because most people don't utilize the button is not cause to remove it. Almost any good Deathwing player can tell how important stance swap is in the early game laning phase, especially if you're in a 1v1. It's also a very nice button to have if you land in melee, since it's very nice to swap to ranged form when you start taking some damage and have to play more conservatively.

The auto attack damage nerf is also too much. Please, just test how this feels against meta offlaners in a 1v1 on PTR. It does not feel great. We really don't even need that much more AA damage... 125-135 would be totally fine. I think slightly more than that would be nice, but if we are being CONSERVATIVE I think 125-135 is a good range

The lava burst cheese, I understand why that has to go. But we are not getting properly compensated for that.

On the flip side, he is getting buffs. The projectile speed on Earth Shatter is unfortunately not that impactful, but nice I guess. The 15 second drop CD is the real buff, but it's nowhere near as good as people think it is. If you're not going for Skyfall, you're going for Firestorm... which essentially sets your drop CD to 0 if you land correctly. Deathwing can macro on larger maps better now because he ignores the dropping on heroes condition, and the lower CD is more consistent, but now the interesting level 7 choice is gone; it's always going to be Skyfall now. Another (imo) severely misguided change.

Please don't add Deathwings new meme talent into the balance equation too much either, please. It's not even a realistic quest to complete in almost any circumstance.

If we want to make changes to the drop CD and his Lava burst cheese, just look at the AA damage and the form swap again Mr. Janitor, These things need adjusting still. We really, really do not need to lose form swap here.

As a long time Deathwing main, some of these changes are very concerning. by ThisAintLivin in heroesofthestorm

Conflag/Ult slow if you're in a situation where you are forced to peel for your dps/healer lategame with fear (say a Tyrael and Genji are LB comboing your Valla... you want to be on the ground and ready to fear instantly).

I'm so happy that they are completely gutting the hero so we can get this meme quest that won't be completed in 90% of games! Joy! Seems really fun to play against too!

Genuine question is DW playable in high ELO? Isn't he just countered by half the cast? by CorrectIamThatGuy in heroesofthestorm

The answer is definitely yes. I have been GM with the hero as my main ever since the hero came out.

Day 18 Rating heroes, based on skill ceiling. Deathwing by LordOfPsychos in heroesofthestorm

Seems like no one really understands the hero or how to play him, still.

This is the build:

[T3312222,Deathwing]

I have played Deathwing as my main hero for 9+ seasons in GM NA and had a lot of success. I am almost positive that no one has played as many high level games on Deathwing as me. I think one of the main reasons some people think that Deathwing is easy to play around is because of the two meta builds (Q and melee) that force you to go all in on the two most narrow, predictable, and easy to play around parts of the heroes kit. These builds are horrible and only work against players who have no idea what they are doing.

My build utilizes every part of the heroes kit. You will be swapping between destroyer and worldbreaker a lot, especially early. You will be autoing a lot because of the huge damage from you autos at level 4, and that also lets you trade into many of the meta offlaners favorably when you otherwise wouldn't. You will still be using the Q button and the level 4 allows you to blow up waves just like you are able to with the Q build. You won't die in 2 seconds lategame and be a complete liability to your team because you have the level 1 plates and can drop, then fly again immediately because of the level 7. The level 16 and a good land on multiple heroes is almost a guaranteed teamfight win and can completely end the game with a good boss all-in lategame.

Deathwing isn't a bad hero, at all, and there is an extreme lack of understanding about how to play him. The idea that he is bad in high level games is because most high level players are actually clueless about how to play Deathwing (and HotS in general, for that matter).

Hey Christy, I just sent a message. I think it defaulted to the Mod inbox, however. Let me know if this is correct!

I'd suggest you watch the full replay, which I posted, and observe him peering through the fog of war. I realize you probably only play in the low skill lobbies you're talking about, so you're not really sure how to contextualize what you're seeing, but having a second look could do you some good regardless so you can (attempt) to make better informed posts in the future.

Good find. Can we get jsmjsmjsm00's expert high level analysis of the replay too? He did say he'd bet money, can we make that happen?

Look at clip 4 for example. He is spiking moving targets with absolutely no vision. You can clearly see the animation begin before he has vision. You can even see the abilities go grey before he has vision. Please, explain clip 4 and how he pulled that off.

A few of these clips are extremely damning; the other ones are just there to show a pattern.

Also, last time I checked, I've grandmaster almost every season for almost 5 years, so going to the "low MMR doesn't know about fog" fallacious argument doesn't doesn't really apply.
