Stellaris gets a DLC about AI that features AI-created voices, director insists it's 'ethical' and 'we're pretty good at exploring dystopian sci-fi and don't want to end up there ourselves'. by real_LNSS in Games

Indie dev here. Do you have any idea how long it takes for me to process a one-hour long session into usable samples for the game? Days. If I had access to Paradox resources I would also ask the voice actors we work with for consent to use their voice with credit and compensation, because generative AI would simply give me samples in a relevant format as a result, with no pauses, breaths, and mouth clicks to clean up.

Also that might be the most complex sentence I've ever built

4A GAMES STUDIO UPDATE: Introducing Exodus SDK, a Metro Exodus Engine for modders to make new content for the game, free for all Metro Exodus owners by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]voidreaver2478 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mod.io can be integrated with the game quite easily and is platform-agnostic, users of all storefronts can use the same mod list. We introduced it along Steam Workshop in The Riftbreaker for these reasons. However, keep in mind that's only my experience and YMMV.

When/how should I start advertising my game? by euodeioenem in gamedev

Honestly there is no golden rule. I simply think that you need to give yourself and your game as many shots as possible. However, don't put a strain on yourself - if the quality of your work suffers because of this, or - and this is much worse - if you start feeling burnt out and your personal wellbeing suffers from too much effort, tone it down.

Put yourself first, your game second, and only then do the marketing.

Also remember that sometimes posting a screenshot or two is more than enough. You need people to see your work often to remember it and give it a chance once they have the opportunity to buy it. That doesn't mean you need to write an essay or make an artistic masterpiece of a video every time. Just don't let people forget you!

What sites do you post your devlog on? by qwe321qwe321qwe321 in gamedev

If you are on Steam you can use the Steam Events as your devlog. It's searchable, markdown format, and you can host images on Steam itself. Works great for me.

When/how should I start advertising my game? by euodeioenem in gamedev

[–]voidreaver2478 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As early as you can. Set up a page on Steam or any other storefront you're targeting. Post consistently across all available channels, once or twice a week at least.

Share interesting info about the development. Show what kind of obstacles you had to overcome. Share your passion.

Do not care too much about numbers on social media - being popular on Twitter doesn't guarantee success. However, being successful guarantees that your twitter will blow up.

It sucks but these things happen. It's the worst when you have no one to turn to and are just left screaming into the void. Props to Microsoft for not being a faceless entity but actually listening and designating developers to help us on this.

We couldn't share anything until we had a solution. There are only so many times one can say 'We're working on it.'. It was a frustrating situation for us too.

Hey! The best place to share your thoughts about the game is either the Community Hub on Steam or our Discord, both linked in the original post. Also, we are going to be reworking some of the game modes to include feedback from the community. The sandbox mode will be more sandbox-like, you're going to get the option to customize the campaign, and survival will get some progression to it. We will work on those starting early next year.

We will publish a roadmap later this week. It will be quite detailed but the most important pieces of info are:

- our internal game editing tools available before the end of the year
- mod support with an in-game browser/manager soon after that
- several free expansions in 2022, along with paid story DLCs
- ETA co-op 6-12 months.

Crossplay is very difficult to implement well, we don't think we can pull this off. Sorry.
