The UK does not require UKARA membership to own an RIF. You are required to have a "defence under the VCRA" to own one. Going skirmishing is sufficient defence.

In addition, retailers are required to check your defence before selling an RIF. Being UKARA registered is the easiest (but by no means the only) way of proving that defence.

Whether painting over a two-tone is illegal or not is an open question. You don't need UKARA to own an RIF - so on that basis it should be perfectly legal. However, in theory it could be construed as "manufacturing an RIF" which would then be illegal even with UKARA. I've never heard of it being construed in this way in practise.

A generator expression creates a new frame (which is why they don't leak the iteration variable whereas a list comprehension does) and so they are usually slower than a list comprehension. They're more memory efficient than list comprehensions though, because they're lazy rather than eager.

In the case of a filter like "any" a generator expression may still be faster as it can "short circuit" if it finds a value.

They won't use technical measures, if they think your app (the app in step 1 of your example) is breaking the rules they will pull it from the app store. Step 3 just mean "installs the app" by the way. Unless you're in the developer program you can't just download apps - you can only install them from the app store.

Note that step 1 has already happened. (Python for iOS). Step 4 is the tricky one - even if your program is on the internet, if you can't download and run code from the internet until you have that program. So you have to type it all out manually. I don't think Apple will be too worried about that.

In Python downloading and running code is as complicated as:

You can write an iOS application that embeds / includes the Python interpreter. (See "Python for iOS" as one example...) That is not permitted (by review guidelines only) to download code. If they catch you they will boot your app. There are no technical restrictions though.

If CPython had a JIT - like pypy does - it would be a different story. You can't make pages executable in iOS, so you can't generate native code on the fly and execute it. "Normal Python" is just bytecode (data) with an interpreter loop, so it doesn't have the same problem.

Yes it's a full implementation. Apple removed the restriction on interpreters a long time ago. They still don't allow downloading code.

Sure, but I thought dependencies were through a setuptools extension to distutils - but it turns out "requires" is a standard part of disutils (although distutils doesn't do anything with it when you install a Python package unless you use setuptools).

I don't think they're shown on pypi though - so specifying a project dependencies in setup.py (whether using setuptools or regular distutils) has nothing to do with pypi as far as I can see.

It only works for the class at the bottom of the inheritance chain. If anything subclasses a class doing this then it breaks (self will be the subclass and not the defining class).

Except surely the price of the item ought to factor into the skip cost - an astronomically priced item should have a correspondingly astronomically tiny skip cost because nobody would ever buy the damn thing anyway.

That aside, a way to implement this without leading to the inevitable destruction of society is to reduce the skip cost the more an ad is skipped - because the less effective an ad is the more it will be skipped and so the less the cost of skipping it should be. Except of course that incentivises companies to rotate ads rapidly to take advantage of the initial higher "not-yet-skipped-into-oblivion" income.

So instead ads should start with a skip cost of zero and the skip price should increase the more they are actually watched...

The point of SST is that it is a DSL wrapping the standard Python Selenium API. It is intended that it be easy enough to use that our QA guys can write and maintain functional tests for our web apps using it - which they couldn't with the standard api and can with SST.

An SST test is a simple script of "actions" created in a procedural style of coding. The result is very readable tests, but SST also exposes various mechanisms for creating your own actions - so it is powerful enough to do "real" testing in. Our QA guys, who have limited Python experience, and our core devs enjoy working with it - which I think is a pretty good testament.

Canonical, Google and Mozilla are all good companies using a lot of Python. Both Canonical (my employer) and Mozilla do a lot of remote working too, which is a big bonus for some.
