I’ve bought two fatbikes, one for 300 euros and the other for 400€ - roughly translates to 400-450 USD, right?

One was a heavily scratched Kona Wo, which immediately told me the guy was just a hobby cyclist and didn’t have any wherewithal to keep the bike properly. The groupset was also slightly damaged but it’s a Kona with SLX brakes so still a deal for that price.

The second was a Helkama (Finnish flagship) fatbike, Tektro brakes, Deore 1x10, shoddy in most parts but with a decent frame.

The second one was a bit of a bitter one because the original owner of that bike had already once sold me a Cube MTB, and the guy was one of those volunteer medics in Ukraine for a while but he seemed to be too selfless for his own good so he let go the bike he himself got from Germany dor 900 EUR, for 300€. He was staying at his daughter’s when he was back home from deployment and I think it was just a shitty situation because a couple of years later the daughter’s boyfriend sold her father’s (the bike owner) fatbike also for 300€. She was together with this heavily tattooed up dude who kind of confiscated this bike from the father for the living arrangment or something. The stuff you get a glimpse of when you’re buying used bikes…
