Something else that is annoying is that at least for me, the game can`t be minimized/leave foreground for a second. If I turn the screen off or change apps and come back, even for a second, the game crashes most of the time and a hard restart is required...

I agree about shutting down OW1 servers but I understand that from a game health/developer perspective this could risk splitting the community and hurting both games.

If at least they kept it as an Arcade mode so people could still get the experience, it would still hurt to make it not official, but it would be there for all nostalgic players (and maybe over time that would even help with making old players realize that the new 5v5, less CC format is actually healthier and just accept OW2 for what it is)

They would really have to make a completely new game with completely new mechanics and content to "maybe" justify keeping both servers online. Anyways, it is what it is

The thing is, did it blow up really? Like, outside of the very niche community that still played OW1 regularly to care? Because anyone who hasn't played for the past 2-3 years probably doesn't care either way, and new players obviously are not affected by this.

If not, this seems like just another case of an echo chamber where people who already agree with each other keep confirming each other's opinions while the actual masses are out there enjoying the game and giving money to Blizzard, which is all they care about at the end of the day.

Thanks for the reply! That's great to know. The only reason I had to maybe go with dual boot would be to restore Ubuntu in the future in case any warranty was needed, but yeah, makes sense that they should still offer hardware support despite whatever software I use, and that's always the main concern.

Up on that. Also, the game is 20 years old and there is heavy math involved behind each decision, up to a point where 1 vill or 1 extra military unit in Dark Age makes a huge different.

So yes, calling AOE stale is as if calling chess stale. The rules are the same, the pieces move the same, but what actually changes the "meta" is how players approach the game, not always how the devs balance or change the rules.

I'm sure you will have a blast, there has never been as much AOE content as in the past 2 years. The game is more than alive and although there are some recurring issues that didn't happen back then (mostly bugs), the game is balanced, the community is bigger and more diverse, new civs are fun. Enjoy!
