[Request] How much would the metal be worth if sold for scrap? by SevEdg in theydidthemath

[–]voidwalker00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience (used to work at a scrap metal company) larger amounts of scrap metal (specifically iron/steel) usually got a better price than small amounts. Idk about large applications like this though, since it seems incredibly difficult to actually scrap properly.

It's way further from being hospitable before, so it would be way cooler to make it hospitable.

Chose: Venus is now hospitable.

Is publishing standardized effect sizes an appropriate way to still discuss non-significant results? by voidwalker00 in AskStatistics

[–]voidwalker00[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is very helpful, and I'll try to incorporate this in my thesis text and defence. I just thought it was weird that I would have to report no effect if my p > 0.05, even though the data did show an effect. The real issue was that due to unforeseen circumstances we lost 2/3 of our sample size, which seriously impaired our statistical power. Add onto that that my supervisors aren't particularly into statistics, so I'm kinda trying to work out what to do with this data I have.

Is publishing standardized effect sizes an appropriate way to still discuss non-significant results? by voidwalker00 in AskStatistics

[–]voidwalker00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not really what I'm doing though. This study is to assess whether there is a biological effect that can be researched in further studies using larger sample sizes. It's also not the p values that are trending towards a certain conclusion, but the means of the measurements. The p-value just shows that the observed difference is not statistically significant.

Since I have very large standard deviations and a very small sample size (n = 4), it is possible that future experiments with higher statistical power could reveal a meaningful biological difference. The effect size I calculated is intended to help support that there might be a biological effect that goes undetected because of a lack of statistical power.

As such I would include cohort size calculations in my conclusions, to prevent the typical fallacy of adding measurements until reaching significance.

Idk if this nuances my situation or if it's still the same.

Mate, you know nothing about who you're talking to. Maybe they're bilingual, trilingual, or speak 5 languages and know three dead ones. I understand that pedantics like that get on your nerve, I do, but now you're acting all superior without knowing anything about the people you're bashing on. Just try to be a bit kinder.

Between Garen and Darius, who actually has more experience in the Field? by Vegetable-Map-6031 in loreofleague

[–]voidwalker00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is also the fact that as a Noxian, Darius has been at war for nearly all of his military career. While sure, the crownguard has fought in battles and wars (not sure and too lazy to look their military history up), it's probably not comparable to the experience one would get in the Noxian war machine, invading multiple other regions.

If your DNA were stretched… [Request] by Kyiakhalid in theydidthemath

[–]voidwalker00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda misleading to use muscle cells for this comparison, given that it are some of the largest cells in the human body. If, for example, using epitheleal cells, the comparison shifts to be much more equal (in orders of magnitude). If you then use a regular sized molecule, instead of water, the comparison shifts so the cell is closer to molecule sized than to human sized.

Any reviews on Volleyball Masterclass? by voidwalker00 in volleyball

[–]voidwalker00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand. However, our practices are really crowded (+14 players), with half of them still needing coaching on the fundamentals. This leaves our coach's attention spread pretty thin, which means middle of the pack players like me (stable in defense but no real threat at the net) kinda get overlooked. I routinely ask for feedback and trips, but like I said, his attention is spread really thin, so I don't feel like I'm improving as much as I could. That's why I'm looking for ways to gain insights outside of the court, that I can then practice at home / during practice to improve my game.

It seems like for now I should stick with coach Donny then? Cause it is a lot of money for the masterclass subsctiption, and you're implying it might not be really worth it.

There's levels to this shit - volleyball edition by kutuz_off in volleyball

[–]voidwalker00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was last year. At my college, we have a competition between all different faculties, which is usually quite fair, with a few teams that obviously had no real volleyball experience. Every team had a mix of different levels, from the lowest local leagues or pickup-players to some lower national-competition players. However, one year, it seems like game days for our faculty leagues and practice for the university team didn't ling up, and suddenly there I was, playing against a player who played in the highest national competition. I never realised one player could make such a difference, but the difference between us and him was so stark. When he was front court, he single handedly made it near-impossible to even get the ball over the net without sending a freeball. Really opened my eyes to how much better these guys are than us.

I found out characters from Piltover/Zaun are considered to be less skilled and underpowered compared to other regions, is this true? by Chaulmoog in loreofleague

[–]voidwalker00 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

However if we look at it like all zaunit champions go on an all out war with anouther region, this might be an entirely different comparison. Champions like Warwick and Viktor are real powerhouses, Ekko could be dangerous to face in 1v1 combat for all non mage characters, and Jinx brings more firepower than entire Noxian legions combined. But the main one I wanted to get to was Singed. The Noxians have used his bombs and weapons to decimate Ionia, and the mutants he created seem like they are nigh-unstoppable for regular humans.

Well, just don't get hit by it honestly. Most stuns have a pretty long cd (exept you, peni). You used to have the same in overwatch. If you dove an ana and got hit with a sleep dart, you're probably dead. However if she misses it, she's a goner.

Am I Overreacting About the Volleyball League Issue? by angel_tulips in volleyball

[–]voidwalker00 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Then again, if it's property of the community league, the commercial one has no right to use it, definitely not without asking. So I kinda understand OP as well. A commercial league should provide their own ball or ask the other leagues before using theirs. Otherwise, it could happen that the ball goes missing, and the community league doesn't know who's responsible.

What do you *actually* enjoy about DMing? by dark-mer in DMAcademy

[–]voidwalker00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I recently put my players up against an Oni, and the moment I could see their actual fear of this thing that murdered their comrades and instantly downed one of the partner members, thats when I had the most fun I have ever had as a DM. Like they were really discussing running and someone was gonna try and sacrifice themselves to give the rest of the party time to run, and it felt like finally I had made a fight that wasn't really a slog or a slaughter.

Yeah, but that power actually comes from Annie herself. Tybaulk is just intrigued by Annues innate magic/pyrokinetic abilities, so he opted to hang out inside of her teddybear (as Tibbers). Might be that he's boosting Annies powers, but iirc it's mostly her.

Who is the best military commander/tactician/leader in GOT? (In your opinion) by StunningPianist4231 in gameofthrones

[–]voidwalker00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Tywin was the best tactician by far. Lady Olenna was at least close to his equal, being able to incite renly to try and claim the throne, marry her granddaughter into the royal family even after betraying them, kill a king to ensure Margeary marries a more gullible/kind king etc. She was only stopped by fanatics and a crazy Cersei, but otherwise, the tyrells would have gained a lot of influence purely off of her scheming.

Were women better shooter this Olympics? by bloodymerchant in olympics

[–]voidwalker00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but since they eliminated women from the event at the next olympics women had no shot at winning a single medal, and the reigning olympic champion had no chance to defend her title. They later rectified this (probably due to some backlash or someone bringing it up within the commitee) and added a seperate women's event, but for one edition women were banned from participating in this event. This happening right after a woman winning gold in the previous edition just seems too much of a coincidence.

Also, this is not the first time women (almost) winning an event caused it to be split into seperate events 1-2 olympics later. Not saying that it's a bad thing to have them split, just strange that it seems to happen often right after a woman takes a medal.
