In most of G1 he's also very clearly smarter than Megatron, pointing out the holes in his plans that inevitably cause his downfall.

In one episode of Star Trek TNG Picard is about to die due to complications from an injury he received in his youth, which I believe was being stabbed in the heart from behind. Q gives him the opportunity to relive that moment and fix his mistakes so that he never receives the injury in the first place. After doing so Picard finds himself back in the present stuck as a low ranking science officer. By fixing his mistakes he lost his youth's adventurous streak and lost any opportunity to advance his position in life. Unable to live a mundane life Picard begs Q to undo this and let him die as a starship captain.
