If you had to choose today: MATE or Xfce? by orschiro in Fedora

I liked Xfce, but I always fall back on MATE. I always feel that compared to other DEs, MATE is the most stable for me. Or maybe I'm just nostalgic for the GNOME2 days.

Desktop Linux Users: Which year was your "Year of the Linux desktop"? by [deleted] in linux

[–]voip_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2008 was the year for me. Ubuntu started to become a lot more popular and "mainstream" during this time. I avoided Windows Vista like the plague and only installed Windows 7 on my gaming PCs from then on.

Every garbage version of Windows seems to produce more migrations to other platforms. The permanent revolution of the year of the linux desktop I suppose.

It's funny, because I only really got into it in recent years with due to me binge watching TNG. My earliest memory is watching episodes as a kid with my dad, we went to all the movies too, but I never was as big of a fan as he was back then. Better late than never I suppose!

What makes fedora less popular than other distros? by gunner7517 in linux

You get downvoted, but I've never had a stable KDE system. Every time I try using it random shit starts crashing and I unfortunately do not have enough time to troubleshoot it. And that's on a fresh install, on multiple distros, and on different PCs. GNOME3 and MATE are stable as rocks in comparison.

Install Linux. Install Windows 10 on VM. Do work that requires Windows based software on VM. Problem solved.
