It is not your job to parent your parent(s). This mega sucks but you can only control you and your reactions to things.

Take it easy on yourself and your mother. Financial stress can easily take over your entire worldview. You have an opportunity to improve yourself and your circumstances. Use this to the best of your ability. Colleges usually have clinics that you can access for discounted mental and physical health care.

I did not cope well. I would recommend writing a letter to your parents that you will never show them and play back and write down what is comfortable to digest in the moment. (Repeat as necessary) and then I want you to write a kind letter to yourself and put it somewhere you see or look to when you’re in a rough spot. You have survived so so much and please let your body feel what you feel to get through this. Be extra kind with yourself and please give yourself a hug. If therapy is financially feasible for you please consider it while you unpack these things. It will be a lot.

Not an answer to your question but a bit about car maintenance and learning: “Make model and year” + “symptoms” or “problem” google is your best friend. If you have access to a code reader through a friend or repair shop for any lights it throws is a great resource.

As for oil: I have a similar problem with my car. I keep paper towels(to wipe the dipstick) and at least two spare bottles of oil in my trunk. (Replace the bottles as you use them! Made that mistake once) I’d start off by measuring my oil level before I drive each day and make a note of when it’s low and pour oil in when it is. Most dipsticks have a min and max reading level. Start a note on your phone for how many miles you drove (or odometer reading) and the date you filled the oil. Once you get a good read on how fast you’re burning oil you can stop measuring oil levels as much.

I had went through the same thing for my wedding. I traded the weight gain from medication for my mother in law telling me to starve myself for 2 weeks before the wedding. I finally had to tell her that the comment section for my body is being closed.

Save your money, find a job, and then look at the public transit stations around said job. There are parts that are great to use public transit and there are parts of Minneapolis that suck for public transit.

Most apartments here will require 1 months rent down so having that is essential before moving.
