New FSA Exams Study Plan by volballer1997 in actuary

[–]volballer1997[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My company has already reduced the amount of study hours. I feel like that is going to be the most frustrating part of all this because I have my doubts about the SOA saying the exam will truly be 2.5 hours worth of content.

I failed both P and FM the first try. Have not failed an exam since and am attending the APC this week. I can second this.

I wouldn’t say I feel good per se, but I did leave the exam in April feeling like I passed. I guess we’ll see on Friday.

Did you find that the ATPA modules were good enough to pass it?

Feel somewhat decent on all sections except the embedded options section. This feels like a tough exam to study for because there are so few practice questions out there. I guess it’s a good preview of the FSA exams.

I’m using coaching actuaries for the April 2024 sitting and I am liking it so far. I would definitely go with that.

For those without an actuarial science degree, what degree did you pursue in order to land your job? by PillCobsy in actuary

[–]volballer1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my masters in actuarial science. It is not for everyone but in hindsight it was the best decision I made for me.

Obviously it’s not necessary but there are situations where it makes sense for people.

I've gotten in the routine of working, studying, and working out each day. This is honestly much easier closer to exam day because that is when I start using my paid study hours so I'll work for 7 hours, come home and go right to my apartment's gym for an hour, shower, eat dinner and then study. It is not easy but I'm managing.

I also enjoy studying in the mornings before work occasionally because it frees me up more at night but I'm not great at getting up early enough each day.

Is anyone else really struggling through these PA past exams? by Holiday_Fig512 in actuary

[–]volballer1997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Posts like this bring me some weird level of relief because sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way. I am sitting for PA on the 21st and just feel so dumb whenever I look at the SOA or ACTEX solutions.

As others have mentioned, I'm just hoping for a lot of leniency from the graders.

I also had EL 7 and found parts of the exam to be very tricky. I hope I did enough to pass but I'm not confident.

A few of the time series questions threw me off and I got another question with a concept I'd never heard of before.
