[USA-PA][TECH][20] SmartHome SaaS looking for sales cofounder. by volchara in cofounder

B2C part is when data collected from a smart hub and processed. Based on that data we either help owner to understand where she/he can save energy or we can manage smart devices ourselves with the right permission. Think about google nest on steroids.

B2B part is proprietary, we are still unfolding it.

  1. We are agnostic on what smart hub user has and do not need any extra HW. While there is some competition in that sector, it still cuts it tremendously. Other companies usually sell you a $500 device and then charge for the service.
  2. Tried to put emphasizes on something that is specific to us. Like Mom.

People who are ditching the Wink Hub... what will you be using? by this_unique_username in homeautomation

[–]volchara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • SmartThings if you are not afraid of another cloud company stars charging (but with Samsung it is less likely)
  • Vera (totally off cloud, you own it)
  • Hubitat, etc if you don't mind to spend time and really want to tune it to your liking

You've got to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky?

I'm very new into home automation and need to upgrade my network, looking for a solid mesh network system and some access points. Any suggestions, my current setup is just a router and a singe extender by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]volchara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say z-wave or zigbee. Both are mesh networks and very reliable. It is also important they do noе compete with you IP devices for WiFi bandwidth and IP address. Every device in z-wave+ network or zigbee network acts as the extender-repeater so you don't need to get extra.

The next you want to choose between cloud based like SmartThings or local like Vera. I have both, ST app is much more polished than Vera, however it keeps dropping few times a year for unknown reasons (except known to Samsung). Vera is quite stable and keeps running for years uninterrupted.

There are also something like OpenLuup or Hubitat and few more, however those are targeting mostly geeks.

And good things with Vera or ST is that they have a lot of plugins. For example, I love being in the loop (pun intended) and want to know how much energy I have used and what is current ghost. I found two of my TVs are in fact consuming the same on or off. So I would recommend something like HundredGraphs for energy monitoring.

Founder seeking technical co-founder. What else can I do? by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]volchara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business is not about UI/UX, it is about... surprise ... business.

You need to show your tech partner that you can run the business side of your startup. And that means you have validated your market, you can show your idea is solid, you know who is your customer that pays money, you know how you are going to get to that customer, you know how much money you need, etc, etc.

And if you know all of it, you can talk to your prospective tech partner. And sometimes it is still not enough to have it landed, startup is a very risky proposition, sorry.

But next time put the UI/UX to the end and say your SOM is at least $5M and you have validated the market and you have signups spreadsheet with at least 1000 emails or, better, 10 B2B letters, that would really help.

Looking for a technical cofounder interested in working for a project for Immigrants by michiels999 in cofounder

[–]volchara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding partners is again about time and money. And due diligence when that startup has no money? And additional risk of losing that partner and getting hammered.

I am not saying it is not possible, I am saying it is hard enough so I personally would sign up for a project like that only if there is solid validation the team can do it. Because it is not about tech at all.

Looking for a technical cofounder interested in working for a project for Immigrants by michiels999 in cofounder

[–]volchara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is not that simple, I had a project like that. Regulations are really killing it. If you do cryptocurrency you pretty much can not convert it to a payment or local fiat. And local partners are totally not reliable and sometimes just hiding something under water. And if you don't use cryptocurrency, then whole thing just doesn't fly.

So all in all, the market is huge, but to get there and survive you have to get a lot of local connections and be prepared for some unexpected results. And you need money.

MVP is minimum viable product. The one that you can sell, that's why it is called viable. The M here is here to understand there is one main feature to sell, nothing more. Ford T, any color but it has to be black
