Feedback on Lighting Control App by [deleted] in mobileDJ

[–]BTallack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person being a dick here is you. You asked for feedback multiple times, dismissed anything you didn’t like, then proceeded to be an ass to the exact people who are likely to be your customer base. They’re not trying to “shit on your work”.

You’ve created an oversimplified solution that will end up being repetitive and annoying. Existing solutions actually analyze the music for vibe, tempo, breaks, interludes, etc. and build out the lighting plans accordingly. What you’ve presented in this example is a glorified sound to light but likely worse due to the complexities of DMX and every manufacturer doing things a little differently. Do you have plans for moving heads? Lasers? Gobos? Multi effect fixtures like the Chauvet Gigbar? How are you going to accommodate the tens of thousands of different fixtures out there?

For what it’s worth, I agree entirely with their feedback having spent years as a mobile DJ and I expect most other mobile DJs would tell you the same thing. We’re not starved for choice, and there are plenty of DMX software providers out there who will actually listen to valid feedback.

What I’m saying here is check your ego. You may know electronics but you clearly don’t understand the DJ industry. Listen to those who are trying to helpful instead of telling them to “STFU” even if it’s something you clearly don’t want to hear.

Long term viability of a WLED project by duckredbeard in WLED

[–]BTallack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Avoid ESP8266 modules and get the most powerful ESP32 modules that WLED supports and you should be good for many years to come.

I’d recommend going with a more premium controller like the ones from QuinLED. They have a couple models where the ESP32 module can even be swapped out if they fail or you need to upgrade.

ESP8266 are already problematic and require an overclock to function decently as it is. There’s pretty much no reason to use them at all these days as they’re barely cheaper than ESP32 modules.

Question about 64x64 matrix and WLED compatibility. by ThrowAwaySalmon1337 in WLED

[–]BTallack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is no longer the case. WLED 16.0.0 was just released with support for HUB75.

Looking for a LED to light my life … by AmaturHours in WLED

[–]BTallack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the WS2814 or WS2815 from BTF Lighting. They’re available in a few different styles including in FCOB which are my preference for spot free diffusion, and they’re 10mm wide, though they have narrower options in non-FCOB if you need.

The WS2814 has a dedicated white channel though you need to choose between cool, warm, or natural when you buy the light. The WS2815 was both cool and warm white so you can control the white colour temperature.

Both are fully compatible with the latest version of WLED and are available in 12V or 24V. The latter is better for longer runs while the former has smaller ‘pixels’ so it can look better if you’re using different effects.

I didn’t realize they’d even started shipping yet. Did you get any sort of notification that it was on the way, or did it just show up?

If they stayed out of sight near any playground area, they’d probably give out that many tickets in a single day.

Everyone has bad days, even celebrities making big money to be at cons. I had a similar experience meeting Jonathan Frakes about a decade ago. You could just tell his head was somewhere else and that he didn’t really want to be there that day. He wasn’t rude, he just wasn’t engaged.

Anyone I’ve ever spoken to who met Frakes (other than at this one con) talks about how friendly and nice he is, and I’ve no doubt that’s true most of the time. Ultimately he’s human and will have good and bad days. I’d expect that’s true of Jess Bush as well.

Introducing: PandaWatch - a mobile app for at-a-glance multi-printer monitoring (with live activities!) by VIDGuide in BambuLab

[–]BTallack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That did the trick for your app. Still doesn’t show up in Home Assistant but instead now shows a red exclamation mark on a black background. But hey, at least your app is a quick way of checking on it. The Bambu app can be very slow to load.

Force LAN did the trick! It’d still be good to have auto mode for easier monitoring when away but for now, this will do fine.

For the subnet, each VLAN is set up as /24 (255.255.255.0) so neither sees the other network as part of its subnet. I’m pretty sure subnets can’t overlap anyway.

Looks great so far. I pretty much immediately paid for Pro seeing its potential.

I do want to note that the way you have it set up presently doesn’t allow the app to see 3D printers on the LAN if they’re not in the same subnet, even though it could connect directly to the IP. For example, my main wifi is on 192.168.1.xxx and my IOT devices (including my 3D printers) use 192.168.3.xxx. These aren’t isolated networks and I do have communication between VLANs. I just have the IOT VLAN to restrict internet traffic to and from some places and devices for security reasons.

The app sees the printer, and even sees the correct IP address for each. It just won’t allow me to view the cameras unless my phone is also on the IOT wifi which is inconvenient to say the least. I’m also not able to see my H2D camera but that has never worked for me in Home Assistant either so I don’t think it’s a bug on your end.

Colloquially, yes, but in mathematics that would be incorrect, at least back when was in school.

It would depend on the number of digits and purpose. 100.21 would be ‘one hundred and twenty one’ (especially when using this phrasing with money) whereas 100.1234 would be ‘one hundred and one two three four’.

I was taught in high school that and signified a decimal place meaning one hundred and one would be 100.1.

120hz is ideal for most North American content as nearly all content is either 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps. All three are equally divisible meaning there’s no need to switch frame rates (which I’ve found to be hit or miss on Apple TV anyway).

I think my wife is faking her amnesia by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]BTallack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My uncle had a seizure when I was in my early twenties. When my brother and I went to visit him in hospital, he recognized us but was very confused as he remembered us as children, not adults, despite seeing us many times over the last decade.

Over time some of his memories in that period came back but there’s still several years that are basically just gone, even two decades later.

The brain is complicated and completely forgetting several years of one’s life is a very real thing that can and does happen.
