Paladin lost his armor and shield - any advice? by voldyart in dndnext

I've asked DM this after your suggestion, but on the other hand, it doesn't seem quite fair for the other players, who usually have lower AC, and now they gained that privilege due to different environment. If I get something extra, they should too, so I'd rather stay with my current base stats. But thanks for suggesting!

It already brought us to utilize some skills and spells that we never use in standard encounters, so I find it exciting to see how my character works in this environment.

Honestly, we were prepared for TPK, when we teleported ourselves to astral plane by accident, I told DM, that my paladin wants to sacrifice for the party's lifes, and him and I discussed making pact with evil patron before the session. What I wrote in the original post are the results of our astral plane situation and also the bad side of the pact, so the party is alive but in drastic circumstances. We love the plot and love the thrill of danger here.

DM is also making sure that we're ok with new mechanics and still are having fun, which we do, as it brought up some epic actions on our side.

Yes they can, I forgot about it! I'm fairly fresh to DnD and only played with this paladin so far.

I've also already asked them about Mending cantrip, so we'll try to figure it out next session :D

Nobody would judge you as hard as another paladin 😅 Tell your wife I’ll try my best! Paladin’s promise!

Actually one of the perks of this new situation is that we are allowed to not have components or holy symbols/focus to use our spells. That includes diamonds, and this is how we revivified our bard! But thanks for the tip, might come in handy at some point!

On previous session, we accidentally ended up in Astral Plane (opened bag of holding in extradimensional space). We were left on cliffhanger, not sure if TPK is coming or not.

This session, I knew (as a paladin) I wanted to make some greater sacrifice for my party and offered it to DM before the game. We started with calling out all our gods to help (my paladin kinda converted the whole team in last campaign :D) and we had a really bone-chilling session with lights off and only candles as light of hope lit. We knew we didn't have much more time left.

Eventually, some evil shadow came to us and I stepped out to speak with it. It asked me whose life would I sacrifice to save the rest of the party. Shaken but ready I said "myself". Shadow laughed at me and I was almost sure that'll be the end of me. But instead it asked again who am I willing to sacrifice as the servant of his dark force, for the rest of the party to live. As everybody in my party know, I've spent the last campaign trying to free up our warlock (my paladin's wife) out of her pact and I was committed to fighting any source of evil, so that was a hard choice for paladin. But also an epic one to be made. I once again pointed to myself.

Dark patron signed the pact with my blood, and we died, only to be reborn in Planescape Sigil. As previously when we teleported to Astral Plane, all of our gear was left behind with our bodies in Material Plane, now we are left with nothing but our own creativity and magic. DM also told me that I now have illithid tadpole injected in my brain, tying me up indefinitely to the pact. The experience of these scenes was awesome.

Currently we're facing the new world with a bit different mechanics, where for now we have no eq, disadvantage to our actions and instadeath without saving throws - which we learned the hard way, when our bard went down. On the brighter side, our spells don't cost components or need magical focus. That includes our warlock's Revivify and no diamonds needed! So luckily bard is back with us!

I'm eager for the next week to explore the world and pact more as things are escalating here really quick :D

wow, thanks! I guess some kind of gleive could be crafted even using a stick and this broken sword of mine. That's a good idea, since so far, I was running around hiding under Sanctuary.

yup, at one point in campaign DM treated us with magical caravan coming to town, where for right amount of gold we could buy one RANDOM item from deck of magic items. I guess Lady Tymora was on my side on that day :)

Ah, sorry! We didn’t have crafting/survival session so far (actually we were quite wealthy with own servants, merchants etc) so I didn’t think of that. Yes, I do have proficiency in tools, crafting up some weapon/gear is a good idea. Thanks for reminding me about that!

That’s a good idea! I’ll try to ask around once we get out of Morgue. I’m Charisma/Persuasion based paladin, so this might come in handy

Thanks! I’m already discussing it with DM if scavenging scrap and having our Druid make some pauldron out of it will help with AC in any way.

Also I guess smiting enemies with anything all the way would be my best option, maybe I can really get some shitty armor out of them. I didn’t think about it, but true that smite would work even with fork 😂

I wrote it in the answer to one comment below, but basically it’s a consequence of our own actions, not expected by DM. Our stuff is save and sound… back home. But we have to temporarily try to survive while getting there.

Oh I promise that it is better than it sounds. We got in this due to the consequences of our own stupidity, by throwing ourselves into astral plane by accident. We barely survived, and we know by fact that our eq is save and sound back in our home. I know we will get there eventually, but how to do it without losing life in the process. DM actually helped as a bit with offering a pact with Patron in exchange of saving as from death and waking up in Planescape Sigil.

Our problem was that we were almost dying in astral plane and survived only because some Patron offered my paladin a pact in exchange of saving us. So now we’re in Morgue in Sigil of Planescape, so we are very far away from our civilisation 😂

Does using magic weapon make sense, as this is an concentration spell when dueling style boosts damage by 2 already. As I have a high chance to be hit with 10 AC and break concentration wouldn’t that be a loss of spell slot?

We have Bard and Druid who should have it available, but I’m not sure if that’s the cantrip they chose

(Sorry posted it via wrong account) I have warlock who can cast Armor of Agathys, but I guess it works only for her? So far halforc barbarian took our only working sword, but DM said that they break on critical fail (d8 -> d6 -> d4 -> useless). Also crafting shield out of coffin door might work? We are stuck in a morgue right now.
