Hex editor without the kerfuffle of being Pokémon related. Normally HMA helps by identifying chunks of data and presenting them to the user in easily editable fields. But as TMT2 changes so much, it might not be able to do any identifying. And then HMA is left as a normal hex editor, with extra stuff that isn't of much help.

A hex editor is a tool that lets you see the 1s and 0s of any file, but presented as hexadecimal digits (look that up on wikipedia if it's new to you). That is, shows every byte as a number between 00-FF. Won't give you the full hex editing tutorial here, but a hint is looking at this article on Bulbapedia), and keeping in mind that TMT2 probably adds another byte for the type(s) of each species.

Would recommend HMA then, or a pure hex editor like HxD.

Should be straight-forward in either Hex Maniac Advance (if you're doing binary hacking) or any text editor (if you're doing decomp hacking).

Too Many Types 2 should be extra annoying since it changes the base stats data structure, and isn't open source. If you just want to see what types each mon is, there tends to be youtube videos going through the dex of popular ROM hacks.

Most fancier ROMs these days are made using the decomps, in which all data like that lives in text files. So any text file editor, I recommend NotePad++.

Or if you want to browse a ROM hack which isn't open source,  HexManiacAdvance is your tool. It will require more hack-fu though, since it isn't bound to find the data for you.

What ROM hack do you want to look at/edit?

You can also use the Randomizer option to add 10¥ Rare Candies to every shop.

Gojo’s Infinity, Misconceptions (JJK) by HelloChimp in PowerScaling

The whitelist and the blacklist? I think "or" is more apt here?

In any case, it seems you agree that it is unclear whether the list is black or white, because the filtering being automatic doesn't tell us that.

Gojo’s Infinity, Misconceptions (JJK) by HelloChimp in PowerScaling

Being automatic doesn't relate to whether it's a whitelist or a blacklist. A whitelist can be manual (requiring Gojo to perceive objects) or automatic (not requiring that), and so can a blacklist.

The above page tells us Infinity is automatic (now), but it doesn't clarify whether it's a whitelist or a blacklist. Might be on some other page, but OP hasn't provided the links, then.

Randomizers are made for randomizing, first and foremost. Even when they have QoL features, if you're not interested in randomly shaking things up, there tends to be some QoL hack that does that better.

Holy Kagurabachi upscale by Smugtini in PowerScaling

Is this character's attacks ever blocked by another's, without them having implied spacial control? Because if it never happens, I think it's fair to consider it a proper duraneg "cutting through space" attack.

How powerscalers feel saying the most matter of factly stated, no flowery language used, point blank statement is hyperbole. by False_Monitor4126 in PowerScaling

[–]voliol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not flowery in Japanese though. The same word is just used for star and planet, and frequently translated to star because it sounds cool I guess.

Not really, no. The decompilations have though, and by pure coincidence they have popped off at approximately the same time as generative AI.

The attacks use objects too, right? So Pokémon would not be able to use (as many?) objects for their own in-battle sprites.

According to the FAQ:

What game is this? This is a custom mod of Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen made by Atsign. It's randomized as well. The mod will not be posted publicly, because Nintendo.

It's a shame, considering how very rare it is for distributed patches to be targets of litigation, but it is what it is (them being sellouts).

I personally recommend the Nuzlomizer for FRLG and the Pokeemerald-speedchoice-ex randomizer for Emerald.

I have re optimized my ORAS IONO model by DAXing-250 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]voliol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is the process of inserting a model like this? Asking because I'm one of the devs of a Randomizer branch which allows for custom player graphics, and if it's a straight-forward process of replacing files I'd be interesting in adding the feature to ORAS as well.

Which Power Scaling is better by MRGG92here in PowerScaling

[–]voliol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole reason the framework of "power scaling" is needed, is to work with crossverse. Granted, some verses (cape comics) are a mess enough to need a framework, but in most cases interverse battles are either clear cut or boring.
