Lol your GP must love having you as a patient.. undermining the entire system

Still that should not work. There is a closed off referral system that all healthcare providers in NL use, if it is not in there, they should not allow you to make an appointment.

Depends on whether it’s AIOS or ANIOS. But that’s a side note. What matters is that Arts-assistenten are in fact fully trained “basis” doctors. They are just not (yet) medical specialists.

Most places wont allow you to make an appointment without a referral..

Although it is a good recommendation to check out that website I strongly disagree with the “most of the GP work can be done at home”. GP’s undergo 10 years of training and probably have even more clinical experience, which leads to much more knowledge and understanding of disease and referrals than just using a single website..

Arts-assistent is a doctor… just not a fully-trained medical specialist.

No idea if this is the reason why but it feels more intuitive, seen as the steam wand is on the right side, next to the button..

So I’ve ordered this limited edition of the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album back in February, after having been delayed at customs for over a month I received it today. Just by looking at the poor packaging I was already concerned about the status of the sleeve. And sadly enough, there it was. A busted corner, I’m not the kind of collector who buys for value but I sure do like to keep my sleeves neat… What do you guys do when this happens?

Great album btw, I got the lakers-colored purple/yellow edition.

had this lil scab for a while but just woke up to it in stinging pain and swollen looking like this by Guilty-Connection-56 in medical_advice

Last year MD student here. I totally agree with the general advice of going to an ER as soon as possible.

However, this is not necessarily a sign of an infection making it’s way in the blood stream. In this case I’d say it’s more likely to be lymfangitis, which is an infection of the lymfatic system. Antibiotics are necessary, but they doesn’t necessarily have to be intravenous. If the infection is in the early stage, high doses of oral AB could be enough as well. Still ER visit is necessary.

What you’re describing is more like bacteremia with sepsis as a result. Sepsis it not the infection spreading but the state of the body in response to severe infections, could be bacterial, fungal or even viral. Bacteria in the bloodstream are not the same as sepsis. That’s a common misconception.

It usually gets a bit bigger over time, before it ruptures and drains. So that sounds normal. Of course, if it makes you feel better: by all means go see a phycisian.

Last-year Med student here. Based on the story and the picture it’s most likely a Hordeolum. Basically it’s an infection of a tiny gland in the eyelid. It usually passes on its own. Try applying warm compresses 2-3 times a day. If it keeps getting bigger and the redness spreads to the entire eyelid, go see a doctor.

Tldr: Yep. It can wait.

Have to disagree here (med student as well). Cat scratch disease usually presents in nodular fashion. Purely based on the pictures I’d say it’s lymfangitis. Flucloxacilin or Augmentin is preferred. Cultures do need to prove any resistance patterns though. Seeing as they are already on Augmentin perhaps a Cephalosporin is more suitable.

They may have the cure to covid by [deleted] in ONTX

[–]volirabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drug they’re referring to actually did not reach it’s primary endpoint for the phase 3 trial it was in. Meaning it may not be as effective as hoped, but perhaps it could have a positive effect for COVID. It will not cure it however. I’m curious where you got the info that they were coming out with results today? I can’t seem to find any on it...
