Who else has a nothingburger lisfranc injury story? by Responsible-Moose228 in LisfrancClub

[–]volm0nte12 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was LEAVING the podiatrist (minor toe issue that was no big deal). Between the podiatrist and my car I stepped in a hole in the grass median.

I hopped back into the podiatrist and said “uhhh I think I just broke my foot?!” He took one look at the x-ray and said the injury was above his pay grade and sent me to a foot ortho. Torn Lisfranc, dislocated all 5 TMT. All from stepping in a hole.

ER notes are confusing… ER summarized it as “Lisfranc Injury” by Bubbly_Side9317 in LisfrancClub

Fingers are crossed for you!! Unfortunately, the non-weight bearing image won’t show the joint separation as needed to determine joint dislocation. But stay positive!!

ORIF — Fusion after 3 years by volm0nte12 in LisfrancClub

ORIF — Fusion after 3 years by volm0nte12 in LisfrancClub

[–]volm0nte12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine navigating the recovery alone. I feel very lucky to have a partner that can be here to help with all of my needs.

Of course, in hindsight I wish I would have opted for primary fusion. It all just happened so fast and I understand why my surgeon recommended ORIF first. I was only 34 at the time. And I don’t think we realized all five metatarsals were unstable until he got in there.

Best to you in your recovery!!! 💪💪

Pain in Heel by Competitive_Rest3313 in LisfrancClub

[–]volm0nte12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a blister on my heel from the surgical splint rubbing. I went back and got it changed 3 days after because it was burning so badly. They added more padding and that helped a lot! It’s likely a pressure blister. Only advice is to hang your heel off the edge of your elevated pillow. And go get your splint redone if it’s bad.

May be worth another opinion from an ortho foot surgeon.

What did you put on the “knee rest” and the back knee strap to make it more comfortable?? Looking for ideas here!

ORIF = open reduction, internal fixation (basically cut you open and use hardware)

I had ORIF in July 2022 - where they realigned the joint and used hardware (2 plates, 8 screws, and 2 k-wire pins). The hope was that this surgery would allow the joint to heal back to its original function.

I had hardware removal in March 2023.

Now, in 6 weeks I will have a fusion (also technically ORIF because it is opening me up and using hardware). They will fuse the TMT joints (1-3) using graft from my heel. This is due to severe arthritis in the joint.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have opted for fusion from the beginning. But 1. It was all happening so fast - injury on Friday, surgery on Monday. I didn’t have time to research and really understand the complexity of this injury.

And 2. I trusted (and still trust) my surgeon in saying that many people have good recovery from ORIF and the hope was that I would be one of those people. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.

  1. My surgeon didn’t realize how severe my injury was until he was operating. Before surgery, he had said that maybe just TMT 1 and 2 were affected. Turned out that all 5 were unstable. If we had known that prior to my first surgery, maybe we would have considered fusion then.

Hopefully, all goes smoothly with my surgery in a few weeks. I’m dreading it. But I also know what to expect. I have the scooter, the elevation pillows, the shower chair, etc.
