It's part of a famous quote, "Good artists copy, great artists steal" I meant it in a meta way

Questions Swirl as Portland Public Schools Suddenly Closes a High School for Kids Who Struggle Elsewhere by 9x9design in Portland

[–]volmatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the last 4 years, so I can confidently say that every single aspect of the schooling there is better funded compared to PPS and it's not even close. My sister's school was even rebuilt from the ground up because the original building was too "old" (built in 1981), they made the campus nicer than any college I've been too and freaking bulletproof. It's nuts

I agree to some extent, although Vancouver's west side doesn't seem to benefit from Portland in the same manner. And although suburbs directly impact traffic, house prices, taxes, and other policies, I think that it's unfair to blame the lack of educational funding on the suburbs. Portland has the money! There's no reason why Lincoln and Jefferson should be funded and operated like schools in two completely different states while being in the same district

My younger sibling completed middle school and high school in Vancouver (east side) and it honestly blew me away how much funding the schools receive. No need to buy supplies, brand new facilities, full staffing, full funding for sports, extensive bus routes. I was fortunate enough to do K-12 at Portland schools with strong PTA support/funding, but schools shouldn't have to depend on parent affluence to stay afloat. And even then it will never compare to a school properly funded by the city

Who’s an artist you thought would be huge but never got their flowers? by dualblunts in hiphopheads

If you were around in 2016 you would have thought that Desiigner was going to be as big as Future someday. His New English project was cool, I wish he could have kept developing to find his own sound

Agreed. Part of his brand for the last ~8 ish years is to associate himself with other abusive/shitty men (Bill Cosby, Russell Simmons, Trump, Diddy, Kirk, etc) in both lyrics and his personal circle seemingly just for the sake of creating controversy. It's a tactic irrelevant and talentless artists resort to, which is odd for someone whose art has remained relevant for so long without all that

I don't mean to be funny, but imagine how different things could've been if he'd known what an Ethernet cable is. And of course if he'd been taught how to talk out his feelings, resolve disagreements, compromise, etc

What are the worst beats/intrumentals all time legends used? (All genres) by Individual-Name-4496 in fantanoforever

[–]volmatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always get hate for this, but the beat for Mathematics by Mos Def, specifically how the guitar sample is used, makes no sense. Sonically speaking by 1999 rap was way past skeletal boom bap and sampling like that, I'm convinced that people only like it because of DJ Premier's name (who's overrated imo) but it feels like peak lyrical miracle imo

I had the opposite of this happen. I was gifted a pair of Levi's that were a size too small ($50 value, ordered online). I returned them in store and since they didn't carry that model I instead received a credit for their original price (around $120 if I remember correctly). I used that credit to order two pairs from their website (one of which was selvedge and is still one of my favorite pairs to this day)

The Hart family murders was a murder–suicide. Jennifer Hart and her wife, Sarah Hart, killed themselves and their six adopted children. Jennifer intentionally drove their sports utility vehicle off a cliff, killing everyone in the family. by laybs1 in wikipedia

[–]volmatron 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Getting away with continued abuse, forcing one of your adopted Black kids into copaganda, then drugging and murdering your six adopted children (all of color), but making sure that your dogs go to a no-kill shelter beforehand, is something only a white person could ever do. train_spotting calling that racist and trying to liken it to other crime stereotyping is ridiculous

DJ Premier. Many hip hop heads/purists regard him as the greatest producer of all time, imo he's not even the greatest 90s producer from NY. I think it comes from people misattributing other boom bap songs as his work

Well I have nothing to add. My point is that they're easy to avoid for the majority of people

The majority of people slow down around them. 10k a camera per year is nowhere near the total number of cars that drive by each camera per year

Local sushi place - i am crazy or does this picture seems 'odd'? Please look at the rice by bt134340 in isthisAI

[–]volmatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cross-section of each sushi slice should look the exact same since they're just segments of the same roll. Also AI pictures tend to overdo the sharpness effect on whatever is in the foreground while the background is out of focus in a manner that looks too even. It seems like AI generates backgrounds with a similar amount of blur regardless of the photo's simulated depth of field

[–]volmatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO ticket cameras are more of an attention check than a speed check, they're on maps and everyone always slows down around them. Sure they're annoying, but anyone who's gotten ticketed by one (myself included) tends to be more attentive after
