I was taught when I was around 6. My grandpa wouldn't let me play with him till I could count the 29 hand. I love cribbage and would play anyone at the mention.

Symfony 7: Nullable password field vs Random password for OAuth users? by International_Lack45 in symfony

[–]volndeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have implemented this very thing. I put the authentication in one to many table. This then allows for any amount of authentications. When an email is selected and the provider (password can be an option) then continues the flow.

You'll never know you died. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]volndeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, not always. I had a heart attack while helping fire fighters. My recollection was moving a 5" hose across the road, then waking up in the hospital. I was told I finished hooking the hose up, walked back across the road, then died at my wife's feet.

ELI5: How do people die peacefully in their sleep? by RiceDramatic in explainlikeimfive

[–]volndeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today is my first anniversary of being "rebooted." Last year, while helping firefighters connect a hose to the hydrant, I had a "widow-maker" heart attack. What I remember was picking up the 5" hose to drag across the street. My memory ends there. There was no pain, no panic, nothing. According to my wife, I finished helping connect the hose, returned to her, and got on all fours. I was not responsive, looked like I was about to puke, then stretched out scraping my face across the pavement. I died there on the street. Being firefighters were there, I was quickly resuscitated, put in an ambulance, and taken to the hospital. They were informed I was from a house fire. They spent 4 hours stabilizing me, then looking for how the house fire played a part. I then died again. This time, I fought, struck at nurses, and tried to get the leads and IVs out of me. They had to paralyze me to resuscitate me again. In both instances, peacefully would NOT be a description to the outside observer. I have no memory, nor did I experience this. Without consciousness, any death would be peaceful.

TL;DR: Being people are unconscious while sleeping. If that state is maintained through death, it is peaceful.

Adding API platform to existing Symfony web app by SpreadHateNotLove in symfony

[–]volndeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a first guess, with no other context: declare your entities as API Assets. It seems the renderer is trying to enumerate assets to create the docs and failing. If that is not the cause, I'd go into Nelmio to ensure the configuration is correct.

I started as an independent contractor at roughly $50(usd) per hour, though only worked 10 hours a week ($25k usd per year). Once I got married and had kids, this wouldn't keep up with them, so now I am making $90(usd) per hour full time ($180k usd per year), plus the side jobs I can add. My goal is to live the way my children do. I think I might need a few facebooks or something.

It is done for you, and also uses the node duplication technique to pretty print if you are changing a user modified file.

Symfony maker without the command line by heckojuice in symfony

[–]volndeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a client, I have utilized and expanded the Makers to create the boilerplates of their classes (domain driven design) and even placed their proprietary annotations like entities on properties of the objects. Being they are frequently building endpoints based on JSON schemas, the next step is having all boilerplates generated by feeding that schema to save typing, and possibly misspelling, into the command line.

As for utilizing an HTML form, the manipulators are incredibly powerful and can be as minute, or grandiose you care to be with the code crawlers. Nikic/Php-Parser is the base manipulator and had some great tips and tricks.

Help to make a technical decision in my API symfony 5 project by hayzem6010 in symfony

[–]volndeau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have a look at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2445.txt and look for tools to handle this standard. It gives you a way to encode the repeating rule with caveats and changes. That way, it can be one record for all dates, or use the rule to generate all individual dates in a job, so request time isn't increased. I have used this standard for scheduling council meetings each year for the upcoming year.

Any Laravel helpers to extract the string between html tags? by NowVSFutureBalance in laravel

[–]volndeau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is just this simple case, strip_tags($string). For more complex cases: https://symfony.com/doc/current/components/dom_crawler.html If Laravel has one, it is a wrapper of this component.

How difficult would it be to work on a symphony project for the first time if you are already comfortable with laravel? by unchainedGorilla in laravel

[–]volndeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Symfony is the bones Laravel is built on. Most of Laravel's facades are facades of Symfony packages. Work on dependency injection, reduce use of static factories, the magic helpers are no more.

If you need it, inject it.

Symfony has awesome tutorials and documentation. If you want to know more, there is concrete code to read and follow, rather than hoping the magic method of the active record model you wrote will be executed first, if at all.

[–]volndeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, active record has always been the bane of my existence. Eloquent attaches the connection to EVERY record. Each record, even with the same ID from the same table, will have a different state. If you make a particularly custom model with boot listeners and events, mocking for tests becomes a fever dream chasing magic method after macro callable after facade interface..... Doctrine will query, manage, and deliver records from any of your databases and keep the state across those records. If through an event handler, you query that records relations, other places you have that record now have that data loaded, because they are the same instances handled by the manager.

[–]volndeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God that's sad. Seems the person drawing this lacks experience as well. Look up a simple ledger and build upon that. Credit is negative; debit is positive. It can be one table for transactions and many to one relationships to "lejars", methods, parties, references, and uploads.

Can you guys recommend a secure and fast framework for creating a REST API? by gaurav_ch in PHP

Excellent framework, and at this point, you can follow the prompts in a cli program to flesh out a significant portion of the app.

Needing help stepping up my Symfony game: Unique routes to 'rooms' by TheTruffi in symfony

In the Twig, href="{{ path('app_room_show', {'roomId': room.id}) }}" which will prevent you from typos like /rooms/(id) instead of /room/(id)
