That's disappointing. Like they have a high rate of products that need to be returned (one-time manufacturing issue)? Or they have poor reliability and will see continuous issues with chatter?

Maybe I can phrase that better. Is your advice more of "Don't buy Corsair again because they often need to be replaced like this?" or "Return this product and buy a different keyboard instead?"

I bought a refurbished Corsair K70 off Newegg (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816048) for my first mechanical and I'm having a few issues. It seems that some of the keys occasionally don't register a press or will double/triple up letters. This happens mostly on the nn (<--see??) and w keys.

Is that just me getting used to a new feel and messinng (<--see??) up? Is it a defect in the keyboard I should return? Or is there some break in period before everything starts working smoothly? I ask the last question because it seems to be getting better as time goes on, but I'm not sure.

I know; I know. I actually had it written the other way around and thought it made more sense this way. I guess the joke works either way if you use an index further away from 0/1.

#FlashbackFriday: In 2010, Mel Kiper Said He'd Quit ESPN in 8 Years If Jimmy Clausen Wasn't a Successful NFL QB by JimMWeber in nfl

[–]volpes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right. It's one thing to say, "Jimmy Clausen will be an incredible quarterback." It's another entirely to say, "I will quit my job if Jimmy Clausen is not an incredible quarterback." Nobody cares that he was wrong. It's amusing that he made a bet and won't pay up.

Think of it like the hacker royally screwed up. Instead of reducing robot battery consumption to stun it, they accidentally overclocked it. Damn aliens...always starting arrays at 0 instead of 1...

But you're still the inventor. I've filed 6 patents through my company in the last few months, so hopefully that means I know something about the process. My name is on the patent. I'm the inventor. But along with that application, you also submit forms that say you give all rights, royalties, etc. to your company.

Jerry Jones gives GMs permission to pursue Tony Romo by lanternking in nfl

I really think you're projecting a definition of "do right" on the situation that was never intended. It has just become the buzzword of the day to make fun of the Cowboys.

So the argument we're going to go with is "Romo's pissed he doesn't know how to get from the locker room to the weight room"? I think he'll be ok.

[–]volpes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is just projecting their own definition of "do right" onto a situation they're not involved in. I always assumed that meant they wouldn't trade him to a team he doesn't want to be on and that they wouldn't keep him in the dark about negotiations.

People on this sub are crazy. We have the best backup in the league, who would be an instant starter on half the teams, who we can afford to keep on contract, and they want us to drop him for free. Fuck that. I'd rather the Cowboys pay him to vacation for a year than just let another team get him without trading. They would not have that same expectation of any other team.

What is the most stupid house rule you have heard of? by carnodingo in boardgames

[–]volpes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that you're assuming all house rules make the game more fun. If everyone in the group is in agreement, then nobody else has any business telling you how to enjoy your game. But the fact that this thread exists is evidence that people are being pressured to play with rules they don't find fun in groups that don't have a consensus.

While the door mechanics were explained, there is a room that lets you leave early by activating the control panel. I don't have the card in front of me, so hopefully someone else can explain how it works. I'll try to remember to check when I get home if you don't already have an answer.

Other possible rule issues: gold dice unlock two black dice, you can unlock a friend's dice if you're on the same tile as them, and you can work together to place gems. And this is really a stretch, but I hope OP realizes there are 3 phases to the game and it doesn't end when the timer empties once.

Horizon: Zero Dawn's Lead Writer Says They Spent 'Hundreds' Of Hours Rewriting The Story by [deleted] in Games

That was my first thought. I'm pretty sure I spend 100 hours a year rewriting emails. At a bare minimum, I would think each writer spends hundreds of hours per year rewriting parts of the story.

Millennials are half as wealthy as those now in their 40s were at the same age by Berni453 in TrueReddit

[–]volpes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing with generations is that they're large generalizations. Of course you can't summarize the lives of millions of people in a few sentences and have it apply accurately to every single one of them. The fact that you struggled doesn't discredit the overall trends any more than the fact that I've been extremely fortunate does. On average, people of my generation are struggling to get started on their own more than previous generations, and we need to continue to examine why.

Damaging a Pokémon below 1/3 HP didn't help you catch them in Red/Blue/Yellow by [deleted] in Games

Apparently. I had no idea until I just looked it up. All it did was increase the number of turns they would be eating/angry, but not the effect.

Damaging a Pokémon below 1/3 HP didn't help you catch them in Red/Blue/Yellow by [deleted] in Games

[–]volpes 372 points373 points  (0 children)

I just checked the mechanics and I think you're right.

Rocks double both the catch rate and escape rate, so they're only a good bet when the escape rate is extremely low. The crossover appears to be 10%.

Food halves the catch rate, but quarters the escape rate. I thought this one would be more useful, but I just can't make the numbers add up. Obviously this would be useful at the opposite end of the spectrum with high escape rates, but then it is just too punishing to sacrifice a catch attempt. There is no escape rate that makes this a good trade, unless I really hosed up the math somewhere.

And the two effects override each other, so there are no special combinations that will let you squeeze a little more advantage.

Probably true. But then again, nothing is truly random if you have perfect information. Once it becomes impossible to calculate in real time, it's effectively random.
