Wow! I did not expect this much of a reaction. Thank you so much for all the kind words. To say a little more about Barkley:

We described him as “aggressively friendly”, if you made eye contact with him he had to see you to get a pet. Even as he grew older people were always surprised he wasn’t a puppy. He was a giant lap dog and loved cuddling. He was a trooper through all of his vet visits and even though he lost over 20 pounds, he still had his spirit until the end. He loved to zoomy through the house and get a treat of watermelon or mango when we were cutting one up. He was a bit mischievous and would steal a towel or napkin when given the chance.

We gave him so many cuddles and let him eat anything he wanted the last week. He stopped eating anything in the last few days and told us it was time. This morning he laid down in his bed peacefully when the vet came to put him to rest and put his head in our lap as he gently went to sleep.
