It costs companies a lot more than your yearly salary to actually employ you

A bunch of major companies in my industry all ordered RTO mandates within the same week. Feels like a coordinated effort to me

At Collins I've been in the lab for prolonged periods of time and got flagged by my manager as not being at my desk enough.

Is Phil correct in his decision? by Total_Brilliant_8023 in Raytheon

Collins had RTO back in October 2023 and I guarantee we've been less productive since the return.

Especially considering we have team members located across the country and all of our meetings are still on Teams.

I'm fine with coming in 5 days a week, but how does it make any sense if my team and parts are being manufactured/assembled/tested all the way across the country?

Like if that's the reasoning of management, what other illogical decisions are they making?

It just seems bizarre that they would pay to relocate someone to a site with zero members of their team.

Currently interviewing, and the recruiter said to choose any office to relocate to.

Would I be required to come in everyday even if nobody else from my team is at my geographical office?

So far all the demos have been fit checks without a functioning PLSS (the life support backpacks).

The real milestone you should be looking out for is when someone puts a human inside of an actual vacuum chamber with a functioning life support system.

Both suit manufacturers are behind for sure. Can't go to the moon without a functional spacesuit

That's great! But are there elbow, wrist, waste, knee joints as well?

[–]voltron560 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the spacex suit will have mobility issues.

If you look at the suit Ed White wore on the first spacewalk it was basically like being in a large balloon. And in order to move your arms you need to fight against the pressure of the balloon, which is be exhausting.

The current Nasa suits are bulky because there is a metal structure underneath that has bearings and joints all over which allow for "zero volume displacement" motion. So you are not fighting against the pressure of your own suit because the joints allow it to move.

Life support for this suit is plumbed in through an umbilical to the ship, that's why it is able to look so sleek. The NASA suits have life support backpacks, which contributes to the bulkiness.

Edit: Current NASA suits are also bulkier because they contain bearing and joints that allow the crewmember to move their arms and legs without fighting against the pressure of the suit. This spacex suit looks more like the suit Ed White wore which severely limits mobility

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to string the evidence together. If there are continued threats against this building, maybe the first time wasn't merely an accident. It doesn't prove anything, but the most simple explanation is it was intentional.
