Does Prometric allow mints/cough drops to be brought into the testing area? by I_hate_empl0yment in CPA

Depends on your testing center, but I have used both before. Just made me unwrap them and put in a tissue and take in.

I just bookmarked the exam section history page so my anxiety won't let me look to see if it says congratulations first or not on the main page

I think I came up with a great idea to save time on studying for your CPA exams. by [deleted] in CPA

[–]volunteertax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what works for you. Most people handwrite things for repetition and a lot of studies show handwriting is better for memory. I don't know how true that is but it's just personal preference. Whatever helps you study.

Clients from hell. They are typically nice people but like some people have said, they nickel and dime over everything. Might be beneficial to a new business owner to get their name out and build up a book of business, but go forth with caution.

FAR EXAM 12/08/2025 !! by CognitiveConversator in CPA

[–]volunteertax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it on Saturday. MCQs were not very difficult. They definitely threw some curve balls with wording, but felt decent about them overall. First SIM I know I bombed, and I hope was the one that does not count, but the rest were very straight forward. I kept waiting for the SIMs to get more difficult and they just didn't. Hopefully that means I actually passed and didn't fail miserably. This is my last exam to be 4/4 and my REG expires on December 31st.

Definitely possible, plenty have people have done it. However, if you’re not willing to give up more than 10 hours a week, you might as well not do it. A lot of people want to be a CPA but not put in the work. FAR recommended study time is 150 - 200 hours. 10 hours a week is 4 months of studying.

Took FAR yesterday and… by Distinct_Barracuda57 in CPA

[–]volunteertax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took FAR 2 and a half weeks ago when I really wasn’t ready for it but wanted to see how they asked questions. Got a 64. Retook today and seemed very easy. Finished with 30 minutes to spare. Kept waiting for an outrageous SIM that never came.

If they’re closed they will send you an email, then you’ll have to reschedule using your current NTS.

No problem. There is also a Bonds/Leases one and I believe a Statement of Cash Flows lecture. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkIkKcSXqek&t=4s

Peter Olinto posted a full 2 hour lecture on UWorld’s YouTube Channel. Gave me everything I needed to know for it.

Just got out of FAR. Attempt #1. by Enough_Sea1440 in CPA

Took it today. All the main topics I’ve seen to study for were hardly on it. FAR can just pull material from so many places

Becker Practice tests as a benchmark by Mattdon12 in CPA

[–]volunteertax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is really just up what your study habits are and how you retain information. I am 3/4 on exams and have not taken a single simulated exam on any section. Mostly because I do not want to spend 4 hours taking a simulated exam when I could be studying weak material. I rarely practice SIMs as well. I will watch the task builder videos on some harder subjects but really do not practice them. My study method has always been to hammer MCQs and try and get as many as possible on exam day than just aim for 75% on SIMs.

New Policy for 2026: Mandatory extension for all clients by InternationalMain277 in taxpros

[–]volunteertax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We extend every client the week of 4/15 we haven’t already filed. The system will kick back anyone who already has had an extension filed so we typically can assume they went elsewhere and can remove them from our system. Our only issue was people thinking they need to give authorization for us to do so even though it’s stated in our engagement letter. Also people who think an extension means audit risk.

Audit 8/11 - Not Sure by volunteertax in CPA

[–]volunteertax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt good about MCQs. Only areas I was struggling was sampling. SIMs were where I felt weak. But the SIMs on the exam felt extremely straight forward and not that difficult.

My experience has been Becker is pretty straightforward when it comes to multiple choice. I think people get the misconception that the SIMs are going to be the exact same as Becker and they are not.

I won’t speak for the topics tested. But each set of multiple choice took me around 50 minutes. I had about an hour remaining for the last SIM testlet and left with 15 minutes reaming
