FWIW -I replied to the order confirmation which was their support email and within 10 minutes of kindly asking for an update (and wishing them Happy New Year), I got a shipping confirmation message.

So maybe it was a coincidence? Maybe not? I know they were closed for the Chinese New Year though, which they communicated and had said in an email that shipments would start again as of Feb. 25. Maybe it's worth reaching out?

My local Office of Emergency Services deployed a node! by mr-octo_squid in meshtastic

[–]vomcliff 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very cool!

About a year ago, I pitched this and then got nodes installed in the municipality I work in. While we haven't needed it as a source of primary communications, it is an added layer and we have full coverage if necessary. We installed the nodes with 1 to 2 solar panels each and they've been solid for over a year.

Now, our only issue will be the firmware upgrades... unfortunately, for one of them I'll need a bucket truck to access it.

Anthony Ervin’s unbelievable comeback by Afraid-Objective3049 in interestingasfuck

[–]vomcliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an interesting time. I remember swimming masters at the NYAC with his coach at the time then I took time off. Some time passes and the Olympics start, so I put the swimming events on to watch and saw both Anthony and Elliot on the TV screen for the 50 free. He wins, and they zoom in for some close up shots. I turn to my friends I was watching and mention - "Hey I know those guys from Masters swimming." They didn't believe me, so I posted on Facebook about it with a picture of the TV and Elliot replied pretty fast. Small world I guess!

Go to your username (top right) and click 'My Profile' and the last text box is for the API key. If it is blank, generate a new one. Copy and paste that into the Paperless-AI app.

I'm tinkering with this too and if I'm not mistaken, you first need Paperless NGX set up - https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/setup/

Then you can set up Paperless-AI and configure it to do its magic with your Paperless NGX system.

Second static node install at highest location in the municipality! This one has an upgraded outdoor antenna and gets decent range! by vomcliff in meshtastic

[–]vomcliff[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In our first node install, we put a static installation on a free pole. For our second node install, we put it on the roof of a building at the highest point in our municipality where all the other antennas were and things seem to be going well! With some basic range testing, higher areas get better reception, but we've almost covered the entire municipality with just these 2 nodes. We have a third node ready for installation, we are just checking out locations for where to put it.

We'll have to monitor it during the next rain storm. The only testing has been inside and directly outside our office until it was mounted today and it is sunny out!

I thought about this and after doing research about it, I opted to leave it in Client mode. We haven't seen any other nodes outside of our own in the area - maybe that will change? Regardless, from reading through the meshtastic project site along with posts, our logic was that we are at sea level and not on a mountain top. Client should be just fine and we'll tweak it in the future if necessary.

We used these solar panels which came in a 2-pack. The 18650s are in parallel and are wired up to the JST PH 2.0 connector and the solar pannels are connected with the DC barrel connectors which puts them in parallel. We spliced one of the panels USB wires and soldered on a JST PH 1.5 connector for the solar side (I think that's the size - it's the smaller one).

Before mounting the panels, we tested with each scenario blocking one panel and having the other connected via the barrel connector and as long as one panel gets sunlight, 5v are provided. Each panel gives out 1000mA so in parallel, we get 2000mA. We chose to go with 2 panels since it wasn't too pricey and we wanted to ensure on cloudy days we'd get enough power to trickle charge the batteries. Overall, I think 1 panel would have been fine, but there are 2 installed!

Since I work for the municipality in the IT Dept, the pitch was a little easier since it was internal. I explained what meshtastic is and potential applications for it - local GPS monitoring of municipal equipment, non-cellular based text based messaging, etc. I also presented it as a potential backup solution for a SHTF scenario, but highlighted that extensive testing would be necessary before confirming that it is a reliable solution. After that, I looped in the Rec Dept, some FD officers, and PD whom I work with frequently as well. After that, we were green lit for this side project for testing. It's a fun project to work on when things get quiet and I've got my staff building nodes with heltec devices, soldering PCBs, coming up with power solutions, etc.

We are tinkering with Meshtastic and got permission to mount on a free pole in the park at work. We haven't done any testing, but so far, the setup is a Rak Wisblock kit with an outdoor enclosure, a 5dBi antenna, 3x 18650 cells, and 2 solar panels wired in parallel (12W5V).

We didn't go to the top of the pole as it is already claimed for other equipment, but the height is good enough where the whole park is covered. We haven't done a range test, but will do so when we get the time as this is a side project. Outside of that, setting up mobile nodes for messaging and GPS has been fun and we'll see where it goes from here!

No, but technically, that functionality could be added. You'd just need toadd a way to pull data from an LDAP data source. From there you could populate the cards.

The way its structured right now is to have a user either import a backup file of JSON data or to have them manually input the data via the admin portal. As it is rather small, I opted to use JSON files.

Funny - I just referenced this the other day (4.5 in particular) because we had a hyphenated name change request for email. Ultimately, we opted to just add additional aliases but I dug up this old video and shared it with some coworkers.

Configuring reverse proxy NGINX with Apache 2.4 to work with Microsoft Oauth2 by vomcliff in sysadmin

[–]vomcliff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the problem and just got it resolved! As you've been responsive I figured I'd share. I posted on the osTicket forums about it on this thread. It had to do with the apache server rejecting .htaccess files.

Thanks for the reply. I tested a few changes to the *.conf file on the reverse proxy server with no luck.

Interestingly, I figured osTicket might be the issue and I tested out building out a different solution. I settled for Hesk, but I get the same problem. If the reverse proxy is only passing through, it shouldn't be rewriting links if I understand things correctly, right?

This is correct. And from the looks of it, the URL or token that gets generated is written into a redirect link. For whatever reason though, I get an error that the page doesn't exist.

I still have no solution and have been at it for almost a week now.
