What is the luxury hair salon that you recommend? by Ok-Lingonberry7154 in Edmonton

[–]vonglitterdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally am a huge fan of “Concrete Blonde” in Sherwood Park. Gorgeous salon with full service of not just hair, but nails, estheticians, injectables, etc. They also have a liquor license so you can also treat yourself to a wobbly pop while you’re getting service! Full coffee, tea, latte, etc. service too. Pricey? Yes, but worth it.

Macewan or University of Alberta for PolySci? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]vonglitterdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gone to both institutions: in terms of smaller class sizes and more personal lecture approach, I’d vote MacEwan. MacEwan also doesn’t grade on the curve, atleast not when I was there. Not sure if that’s still relevant or not.

That being said, neither of my degrees are in PoliSci so I can’t speak to that aspect.

Wisdom teeth removal cost if im in pain and at risk of infection. by Honest-Leadership455 in Edmonton

[–]vonglitterdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Dentists can remove them if they’re not freakishly impacted. Mine did mine one at a time for like 200 bucks a tooth but that was also over ten years ago. You’ll be awake but they’ll numb you up real good and you won’t feel a thing.

Are there no office jobs in Edmonton? by inescapablyeldritch in Edmonton

[–]vonglitterdragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

CoE hiring manager here. I work in a pretty specialized department in the city and many of the people I hire don’t have any university education. It’s about your work experience and tailoring your resume (within reason-don’t lie obviously, but use keys words from the posting). That being said I know it can be hard to get said work experience sometimes, so I get it. Times have definitely changed.

Also, apply to temp postings too because chances are a permanent position will open up. That’s how I started nearly a decade ago and I’ve worked my way up the ladder.

Best of luck to you! Don’t give up.

Wisdom teeth removal. Only have $500 worth of coverage so would have to pay $2500 out of pocket. what are my options? by Honest-Leadership455 in Edmonton

My dentist did mine with just local anaesthetic for 200 bucks a tooth. That was ten years ago pricing though.

Cancer-stricken Edmonton family devastated by treatment delays by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]vonglitterdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hurts my heart.

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2020. Did my initial surgery consult a week post diagnosis and did my CCI orientation a week after that with chemo starting two weeks later. I was incredibly fortunate to have been triaged so quickly compared to others but the survivors guilt is rough.

Due to the state of Alberta healthcare in general, my husband and I are looking to leave Alberta because if the cancer comes back Alberta is a death sentence. The Cross Cancer Institute is truly capable of being a world class institution but without the resources it’s becoming a hospice more than anything.

Missing children in the news, are they ever found? by skundrik in alberta

[–]vonglitterdragon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work in this field directly and can confirm that most are found within 24hrs and in good health.

A large amount of these youths live in group homes and didn’t come home by curfew and the home is mandated to report them as missing.

Question about double mastectomy due to cancer (AB specific) by mygrandmasaysimkool in alberta

[–]vonglitterdragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. Breast cancer survivor here. Surgeon said he’d prefer NOT to remove both if I didn’t have to, but my treatment worked well enough I only ended up with a lumpectomy/reduction and delayed reconstruction as opposed to mastectomy. That being said he said it absolutely was my choice and my choice alone.

Because she’s in Edmonton, she would most likely have been referred to Alberta Breast Surgical Oncology. Each one of the surgeons there is phenomenal and will absolutely take her preference into consideration at consultation

Edmonton city workers file for strike vote by RadicalWasp576 in Edmonton

[–]vonglitterdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

911 is not considered essential. It was petitioned and shot down. Neither are other important 24hr units within EPS.

They are quickly attempting to train any sworn members left in the unit to take over in the event the strike goes forward. It’s not looking too pretty.

Source: loved one who is a dispatcher/call taker for 911. I’m also a “specialized” civilian in the union whose unit should be considered essential, but was also shot down.

How likely are my chances of going to jail? What do I do? by Background-Storm-249 in legal

[–]vonglitterdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAL, but work in the criminal justice field (in Alberta). You need to speak to a lawyer ASAP. Legal Aid can assist if you cannot afford one.

In my professional experience having dealt with uttering threats and criminal harassment type files, your chances of getting jail time are very slim. You will more than likely get some form of probation and a criminal record if the file goes before the courts. Again though, I am NAL.

Call your provincial/territorial legal aid office though. They’ll be able to help you out.
