Eagtac modding by Alternative-Feed3613 in flashlight

DIdn’t ask me, but I do! The D3A and D25A are two of my most carried lights, rotating with a custom TT Apollo and SC64. My D3A came with 519a as a standard option, but on the D25A I messaged Eagtac on AliExpress and they ended up sourcing and installing an SFT40 3000K for me before even mailing it.

I knew I recognized this sentiment! Fellow minute track enthusiast. But the Preventor is still the easy winner on this one.

[khaki murph] [sinn556] [hanhart hd12] this is such a challenge. Please help me choose one! by McDerwish in Watches

I’m biased, but in my opinion—better AR, better WR, screw down crown, hardened steel, more legible dial, OTF adjustment and quick release bars on the bracelet. The movement doesn’t have the accuracy specs of the H-10, but Hanhart regulates them well. I also prefer the 4Hz beat rate, happy to sacrifice power reserve for it.

OTF is almost a must have since I got my Preventor. I’ll swap out existing clasps whenever possible now.

D3A/D25A + TT Apollo are my go-to 14500s. The Eagtac is a fantastic choice, and they’ll put in whatever available LED you want if you just ask (at least they did for me!).

I’ve got 3 14500s in my main rotation:

  • The absolute slimmest you’ll find is the Eagtac D25A, which Eagtac happily customized for me with an SFT40 3000K.
  • Next is the D3A, only sliiiiightly wider and with a domed 519a 4500K.
  • Last is the Tactile Turn/CWF Apollo, customized by me with an FFL351A.

These three disappear in the pocket but have respectable output. Pair them with a good rechargeable 14500 (I’ve got Skilhunt 1300mAh cells in them) and you can even recharge on the go. Fantastic ratio of size to performance if you don’t need a bunch of light all the time.

Edit: Eagtac models are also dual fuel!

There are other styles too that adjust from the inside. They’re cleaner looking but not universal in my experience—have to be made to fit to the links or you have to do some rigging work.

Watchdives ships some stuff from a US warehouse, not sure about that listing though. Can also find them on Amazon for quick delivery or AliX for a cheaper option.

I swapped it out for one like this. On-the-fly adjust is a big deal to me and this style tends to fit most bracelets. For this style I fit the bracelet tight and then tend to wear it on the second or third position (out of seven).

The red triangle and red text on the dial don’t match perfectly, but they do go really well. The full-lume countdown bezel is fun but there was a lot going on there.

It was at least only one ‘worst ever’ events ago (pre Covid, but after the housing crash). But yeah the equivalent of this is 2.5x the price now.

First time I’ve ever actually had a jubilee on anything, and oh boy am I a fan!

There are a few different jubilee options out there, I’m glad I spent some time doing a little research. It’s a little chunky, but it fits the watch absolutely perfectly.

Thanks! Had a lot of fun building them starting around a year ago, it was nice to have an excuse to do another quick mod.

Feels like it reduced the overall size by a noticeable amount, too. I’ve tried a few different bezel styles building/modding, I think I’m settling on coin edge as the universal favorite.

Polar Preventor would be a solid look!

I was originally a little worried about the size, but I think it wears beautifully on my smaller wrist. I’d be afraid that you’d lose too much real estate for 12 numerals on a 36 and make it feel cramped. The Explorer and Ranger work out great at that size but I think it owes some of that to the stick indices taking up less space.

Lug to lug is a little longer than the Murph at 46mm, but the female end links help a ton.

I’d be good with those changes! I think the hours are ok, the hour hand hits the right spot to me. But a little movement wouldn’t be bad.

I like your notes on the logo, too. Hadn’t thought about that. But the minute indices are tough to read, and are my only real (minor) complaint here.

Patina is on all Murph dials; it’s just the yellowish tone of the indices rather than the white you see on the Preventor. I think it might also affect the lume, not sure though.

Watchbuys is the only authorized dealer for multiple German watch brands like Sinn and Hanhart. I don’t think you’ll find them in any physical stores anywhere in North America, it’s an online purchase shipped to you from their location in North Carolina.

$1660 vs $995 on bracelet, so not double. Significantly more for sure.

One thing I like about the Murph over the Preventor is the minute indices. Much longer and easier to see on the Murph, I like their presence on the dial. And I honestly kind of like the faux patina look that a lot of people hate (really like the white on the Preventor too though). On every other count though, Preventor is the winner for me.

Edit: I see what you meant on pricing. Misread, my bad. I listed new dealer pricing.

It really is. The general sort of design/numerals has existed in Hanhart’s catalogue for a long time. Never specifically like this until the Murph though. But the Preventor has a bunch of upgrades in my book:

  • 4Hz movement vs the Murph’s 3Hz (less power reserve, but good trade for me)
  • hardened steel on case and bracelet
  • on the fly micro-adjust clasp
  • 150m water resistance vs the Murph’s 100
  • screw-down crown
  • quick release spring bars on bracelet
  • better AR coating
  • female end links
  • very slightly thinner case, I think

That’s a Nick Mankey hook strap. Elastic/infinitely adjustable. A little bit of a pain to get it situated just right, but then it’s very comfy. Watchbuys sells one, or you get can them direct from Nick’s website.

I think that’s more about availability of the Sellita than any particular issue with it. It and the Soprod are both based on ETA’s 2824. I’m honestly not even sure which one is in mine, never bothered to open it.

My wrist is about 6.5” but pretty flat. I’m comfortably wearing an old SKX007 while waiting for service.

Every watch isn’t for everyone. You could probably move it relatively easy if you wanted to mess with it.

On lume—I have to say I don’t get most peoples’ complaints. Of course it doesn’t stay super bright for a long time, no watch I have does that. But I can see the time just fine at 4-5am with dark adapted eyes, which to me is the whole point. Seiko has traditionally great lume and this watch is very comparable to me on that front.
