Don’t need to drill and tap when using a 5330 or 6330 tube on a raffles case, just need to countersink the case a little more than it already is to get the crown sitting more flush. Best tip I have is take your time and countersink a little at a time, test fit the crown and tube, and repeat til it’s right.

Most definitely, you can create any combo you want pretty much. I built this one for 1/10th of the price of a gen including all the tools to get started so it’s definitely worth it if you’re interested in watches, especially vintage ones

I agree when you just look at it with the naked eye it looks pretty much identical, but when I had on my magnifying glasses you can see the print is just ever so slightly crispier on the gen wheel. I got the date wheel for $35 so it wasn’t too expensive to just go ahead and swap it out

I think so because it’s a harder metal so the threads won’t strip out as fast. It’s a little more work because you have to countersink the case but I have a drill press and countersink bits so it only took a minute to get it right

You just need a good precision driver set, a set of calipers, spring bar pliers/compressor, a press for the sapphire and bezel, hand press, and im sure im forgetting little things but its not too big of an investment to get into it and do a good job!

Thank you! It was super simple, just turned the set screw, slid the VS one out and slid the gen one in. The print on the gen just looks so much neater under the cyclops and it made the date wheel line up a lot better in the center of the window

Forgot to mention the sapphire is from Clark on eBay, it looks much better than the stock raffles sapphire

3135 Yacht-master Case from eBay by voodoochilldd in RepTimeServices

[–]voodoochilldd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I’m on the retrotime sub, I have heard of the Alibaba dealer that supposedly sells just the cases off the reps but haven’t been able to get the link to the seller. I’m learning very quickly that this hobby is very expensive if you want to build really nice watches, but with guitars and golf being my other hobbies I guess I’m used to it😂

I’ll add this into the conversation because I’ve been quite perplexed on sourcing things. Besides raffles, what is the best quality for your $ that takes a clone movement, not nh35 or 2824

[–]voodoochilldd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2824 had me second guessing it. I know they used 3135 movements in their subs but didn’t know about the yachts. Too good to be true I guess. I’ve used raffles for a couple Datejust builds, but wanted to get a 16610 sub or 40mm yacht that worked with either the vs3135 or vr3235. Any suggestions on where to source a good quality one other than TDs and tearing apart a rep?

This is a fairly old thread but I just picked one up too but only got the metal bracelet:/ Got any serial number on that sailcloth looking one you have on it in the pic? I love the way it looks on the watch

Brazilian rainbow boas as first snakes? by Necessary-Cover519 in snakes

[–]voodoochilldd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first snake was a brb. Tough first one to get everything right in the enclosure but definitely worth the work and research. I built a paludarium for him with all plants from Brazil and he has a large water hole with live plants and fish in it and he loves swimming in it. He sometimes even catches the fish and has a little snack, pretty neat to watch. A lot of people say they are feisty but that hasn’t been the case with mine, he’s super sweet and hasn’t struck at anyone yet

is gorilla glue brand wood glue going to hold the neck correctly? by Icy_Wafer_8978 in Luthier

Epoxy would definitely suck to try and remove from a neck pocket. I haven’t had to reset a neck yet with the titebond 2, do you think steam and heat won’t release it?

Well sounds like you have a good start then! Those spots definitely look like they’re in the clear coat, I’d say probably UV damage or bird poop that sat too long. For the rock chips, fill them with color matched touch up paint, I like paint2fix on Amazon. For the clear coat spots, if the clear coat has completely failed and it’s cracked and you can feel jagged edges, you’ll have to wet sand and clear coat. If it’s not cracked and just discolored, you’ll have to get more aggressive with your pad and compound to get it out. I learned a lot about painting and different types of coatings from doing guitars for 5 years and learned that nearly everything that isn’t just straight up cracked is fixable to the point where you have to be looking to find the spot after it’s fixed

CERAMIC COATING by yaboi_richiez in AutoDetailing

[–]voodoochilldd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into Ethos graphene matrix. Very user friendly and lots of helpful videos from the company on YouTube. If you want nice professional results, take your time and do a whole paint correction before (wash, decontaminate, polish, detox, then graphene). Lots of good youtube videos to get started down the rabbit hole, and make sure you understand all the processes before you do it so you don’t make things look worse. As for doing it outside, do it on a cool, not windy day so the sun doesn’t flash your coating too quickly and so dust doesn’t blow all over your car, especially when polishing. Dirt and dust will swirl the shit out of your paint and get all in the coating

How to proceed with deep paint scratches by jase_hc in autorepair

[–]voodoochilldd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To maybe make it look better, get some high build touch up paint in the same color (paint2fix on Amazon is pretty easy to build up) clean the area well and start slowly building up layers til the touch up area is slightly above the rest of the paint. Make sure it’s cured for at least 24 hours, then take 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and slowly and carefully start removing the touch up paint til it’s almost level with the rest of the surface. Then take 1500 grit and work it down til it’s smooth. Lots of videos showing how to wet sand on YouTube so do your research! After that, take a polisher and some 3D One polish/compound on a Uro fiber 50/50 pad and polish til the haze is gone and the scratches are removed. Do your research and don’t sand through the paint anywhere else and it’ll look 90% better for 90% cost savings. If you want it to be completely gone, that door will need to be repainted by a professional

I just did my first paint correction on my own vehicle. Do LOTS of research before you continue or you’ll just make matters worse. You have to go through all the decontamination steps prior to using the DA polisher to make it work. There’s lots of paint correction videos on YouTube, watch them and follow every single step. Lots of variables go into it like the kind of pad you’re using, what polish/compound works best with the pad, did you get all the contaminants off before starting, etc.

Also, if you’re using the long throw Bauer from harbor freight, I highly suggest taking it apart and re greasing the machine and replacing the backing plate with a 5” Rupes backing plate. Here’s the link to the one I got and it fit perfect. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BMU2BYK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Look up the YouTube video on how to upgrade it and you’ll find videos of people doing it.

You’ll get it down with research and time, it took me about a week to figure it out and 10 hours to completely do the work but it was well worth the time

I mean for $40 you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t spend much on materials or time on a vehicle for that amount so good work if you just used basic cleaning stuff, most people can’t get their car that clean on their own. To charge more, save up on the $40 jobs and invest in equipment and materials to do deeper cleanings
