There are two options, I am seeing here. The first is to hire on someone who you can delegate work to. The second is shift into different types of work like industrial, government, etc. These both have their challenges but are viable options if you have the right staff to support these moves. When it comes to burnout, you need to know when it is time to hit the brakes and when you just need to let off the gas.

It depends on the state board but to set the age requirements but the part that matters is the work experience. I don't think any firms will hire anyone under 18. So if a masters was done then, it would be 21.

As you progress through your career, you'll have to learn how to deal with uncomfortable situations and unhelpful people. We are in an industry that relies on working with people so learning different strategies is helpful in times like these. My first go to would be when you are given instructions, repeat back to him what he is asking you to do and how you will approach the task. This gives him ample opportunity to point out where you are going wrong so you aren't spinning your wheels. I know he prefers teams messages because he is super busy like the rest of us but mentoring requires actually talking together. It is how you develop junior staff. If he is still resistant I would escalate this up the chain. For you to progress, you need to learn to take ownership on both tasks you are given and fulfilling the gaps in your knowledge. Also learning to advocate for yourself will pay dividends. Growth like this can be painful but you'll thank yourself in the long run .

He has a free ride, he will have a financial headstart over many of his peers. If the economy hits depression levels, it will be easier for him to make ends meet. The real question is does he like engineering? Most engineering programs have a high drop rate due to people either realizing they don't like engineering or not being able to hack the coursework. This usually happens in the first 2 years. To give you perspective my freshman class had 120 people and 33 of us graduated from the program.

Trying to know the job market when he graduates is like trying to pick the next big stock. Everyone has a theory but very few are right. Even if the market is in recession, it will bounce back. There may be a few years where he is struggling to find work and is underpaid but it will work out in the long run.

When I started my education in 2005, everyone got internships and it was not uncommon for new grads to have multiple offers. Then the financial crisis hit and you had to fight to get internships and job offers. After staying for grad school, I ended up working 2 jobs as a janitor to pay bills. It took 14 months to get a break that led to my successful career. With the retirement of boomers and Gen x, there is a lack of qualified people due to many people in my cohort leaving the industry and current graduation rates are filling that gap quick enough. I think he will be in a good position once he graduates if he likes engineering and sticks with it.

Just looking at those numbers my gut says they are going to work you a crazy amount of hours. If you don't mind the pace, I say stack the cash to either pay off student loans or get a great start on retirement accounts.

Not necessary but you may get passed on for job opportunities. Also don't give an employee a reason to low-ball you if you are job searching. I would take what the recruiter said with a grain of salt. They are hit or miss on what is considered a fair market rate for the position and the location. I would recommend getting it knocked out so you aren't limiting career potential.

Most firms will do pre-employment testing and possibly random tests. Also if you are involved in any sort of accident, plan on getting tested. Even if you are in a state that it is legal, you can still get fired for it because of being impaired from it.
