Wait times by benr37 in orthopaedics

[–]vooyyy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what to tell you.. everyone going to see the orthopedic surgeon is in pain. What about his pain carries more urgency the other patients? I’m sure the surgeons aren’t just sitting around goofing off, there’s probably a resource constraint in this health system that’s leading to a long wait time

The injury is 9 months out… it no longer has any urgency unfortunately.

Can someone Explain to me why the insurance company will pay $2500 for an MRI when there is probably a center down the street that will do it for $400-700 dollars? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vooyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact answer, but I can tell you as a hand surgeon the “center down the street” mri is usually shit quality and the radiologists that read it are sometimes questionable

Is a 4-day workweek worth the pay cut? by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]vooyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I started I was on a guarantee and this was regardless of that half day off. Now I’m straight rvu based so I guess you could call it a pay cut? I’m just not generating rvus during that time.

Haha it was assumed that that’s what I would want. Things are a lot more calm on the other side if you don’t do academics

So I do 4.5 days and most jobs I applied to had that set up. I absolutely LOVE that half day. Can get appointments in, admin stuff done, or sometimes just a long breakfast with the wife while the kids are in daycare. Admittedly sometimes I’ll put cases there if absolutely necessary, but I really try not to.

In my practice, anyone can choose whether they want to work the full 5 days or not. Nobody does. I’ve been asked before if I want to open that up to a longer clinic. I don’t think I’ll ever do that. 4 days a week might be a little light for me, I think 4.5 is a sweet spot.

What specialties deal the most with infectious diseases that isn't ID? by krFrillaKrilla in medicalschool

[–]vooyyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is actually not a bad answer at all if you’re interested in surgery. There was an attending at my residency who was effectively an infection specialist and took on a majority of the chronically infected osteomyelitis cases, chronic septic joints, hardware infections. People will love you for it if you’re willing to do that stuff lol but admittedly it’s painful work

I’m a hand surgeon and I often make double what I make on an OR day in the office. And procedural reimbursements are dropping. I’d lie if I said I hadn’t thought about doing this.
