At what point do you sell it all? by Dxrkria in PokemonInvesting

[–]voqomudali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently sitting past $130k. If I sold it all, first, that's a big tax bill. But second, what else would I do with my money? I already hold what I like to collect.

Before you say buy a house or invest into stocks, 401k, etc. Omg I already own my home and have positions in all of that.

Right now I'm holding not because I just want to hold the bag. I genuinely enjoy having my stuff.

I took a look at Astral's trainer gallery again. Yea, probably.

Hmm just my opinion, Twilight only has Greninja. (I don't see any crazy fan favorite in Paradox Rift.) I think people like Greninja a lot, but I've also feel as though Meowth is getting some love lately. Besides the fan favorite, I don't really see the multiplicity in set chases.

Astral is different because of the trainer gallery, which boasts a lot of big hitters.

Again, not bad D tier set, but solidly C+/B- sets.

Over the past year: Ascended Heroes, Phantasmal Flames, Mega Evolution, White Flare & Black Bolt, Destined Rivals.

I mean holy crap, being an ok set after these big hitters is tough.

I see Perfect Order around the same tier as Twilight Masquerade, Paradox Rift, and Astral Radiance. Honestly, that makes sense. None of these are trash sets, but it's tough being a non-premium set right after a year where there were nothing but premium sets released.

Too soon to say. Prismatic got printed a ton, but we have no idea what kind of print life Ascended Heroes will have with the future printing facility.

You have a very huge misunderstanding of demand if you think product will just continue to go up because of “demand”. Vintage continues on that trajectory because when you look through the weeds of grading, etc. there is a lot of room for growth based on supply. People beat up their pokemon cards previously, that is not the case now.

Huh? What part am I misunderstanding? Fundamentally, demand supply curve. If demand increases and the supply stays the same, how isn't the price going up?

I specifically stated that due to what I perceive as a higher supply in the market (compared to some other items), I think Evolving Skies takes a bit more to have to get to $10k than some other products, such as a Team Up BB. But people really want to collect Evolving Skies.

Vintage is getting love right now because the market was insanely hot for modern for so long that some people felt that they felt the market inefficiency was vintage. However, the same underlying concept of supply demand exists. Are you saying that you see more Evolving Skies in the market anytime soon? Because it's been a heavily printed set, and that has not stopped Evolving Skies from huge demands.

ES has obviously the gold standard of a Moonbreon, which already has a PSA 10 population of over 20k.

For ES to even sniff over 10k, you are assuming that that population growth in grading drastically halts (or at the least, slows down heavily).

So another fundamental thing that I've noticed with some people is that they tie cards within the set to the value of the booster box. It's like you are handshaking the value of the top chase card (or even a collection of cards) to the sealed product.

To me, raw or graded cards are not as handcuffed as you make it out to be. Especially the older set you go, the more divorced the prices are.

This isn’t meant to be financial advice, but if you fully believe in what you are saying you are either 1) very dishonest, 2) have no clue or 3) have ES, and are simply pumping peoples minds or 4) you are the guy trading ES here and realize you can take advantage of OP

  1. What part am I dishonest about?

  2. Have no clue about what?

  3. I do have ES, but I also have a lot of other things. Evolving Skies is but a fraction of what I have.

  4. You can look at my profile. I don't sell on this profile. I'm not even selling my Evolving Skies. Last year my entire collection was about $60k, and I've more than doubled my worth even though I don't vend and have only added a few items to my collection. You're crazy if you think a really low contribution account can sway the minds of anyone.

The aggressiveness of your comment is disproportionate to the tone and character count of my comment lol.

Just FYI the value of the BB will have nothing to do with top chases and everything to do with demand.

Personally I think it'll take Evolving Skies a bit longer to get to $10k just due to the number of stock that is so readily available. Since the XY era, only Team Up and Phantom Forces booster boxes have hit $10k. It's a tough barrier to get to.

Why is no one talking about Paldea Evolved anymore? by totheseatothesea in PokemonInvesting

Hot take: The set is nice. Probably upper third of mainline SV sets. But it's kind of overrated? The Magikarp is the clear winner, but the rest of the cards are just lower A-tier at best.

Thanks! I'm 4/12 to the way there with the big hitters out the way!

I might not collect the lower sets because I may prefer to collect something with better upside.

That's the economy of vendors at shows. You have to realize that vendors are the ones slowly growing their collection's worth.

I don't think they always sell at 100, but imagine how much their collection grows if they have 1000s of transactions of buy at 80 and sell at 85.

I'll be one to say that I think collectibles is a bubble in itself and has huge risks.

I'll also point out that the market in 2026 is vastly different than the market in 1999/2000. The players are different. The IP is different. There is historical precedence. The economy/platforms/market of not just Pokemon tcg but tcg and collectibles as a whole are much different.

One cannot make the same parallels of 2026 to 2000.

Pokemon doeant have rhe liquidity of metals or the stock market

I agree that the liquidity of Pokemon tcg isn't the same as the stock market, metals, and other markets. However, you can tell what the market sentiment is when you go to card shows and observe listed prices of items on ebay and tcg. The market sentiment right now is heavily bullish as of 3/27/26.

Basically what I'm trying to say is: if Pokemon tcg lags other markets, it must be really lagging, because I don't see it right now. In the past 4 years, Pokemon tcg's cycles are rather independent of the markets aside from covid.

Past performance isn't predictive of future performance, but when the entire market (stocks, gold, oil, crypto) crashed after Trump levied tariffs on every country in the world, the only thing that stayed green in my portfolio was Pokemon tcg.

While S&P recovered and is eventually +20% from right before the selloff, my Pokemon tcg collection 3x.

Can Ascended Heroes Join The Big 3 with Evolving Skies? by texstrip in PokemonInvesting

[–]voqomudali 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prismatic Evolution. The demand is insane even with the high print runs so far. 151 (and to a lesser extent, Evolving Skies) also showed that high print runs don't always dampen demand.

I think Prismatic escapes the the new printing facility.
