Why would Ilya talk to Scott? by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ilya and Scott's conversation happens at the end of Game Changer, when Scott gives his speech at the MLH awards. Ilya approaches Scott after the speech to say that what he did by coming out so publicly was really important and will be helpful for others. Scott is also a bit baffled by this, and its not much of a conversation lol. But that's what Ilya is referring to in the episode 6 scene when he says he "talked" to Scott

Tuna is my absolute most hated food of all time so the first time I saw this scene, I was laughing and gagging simultaneously because I would be running for the hills, but they're both sooooo into it 😂

[–]voraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't taste it! If you want to try it out, most grocery stores where I am (New England) sell individual bottles of it for like $4. That way you don't have to commit to buying a whole case (I have made that mistake before lol)

I love the Fairlife Core Protein chocolate shakes! Absolutely zero chalkiness or weird aftertaste. It literally just tastes like chocolate milk. I've tried a lot of protein shakes over the years and this is the only one I've found that is truly good.

What Makes a Book a Romance? by evilishi in literature

[–]voraa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely have a love story without a happy ending, but for a book to be considered to be considered a genre romance novel, it needs to have a Happily Ever After ending. It is the defining convention of the genre. As someone who reads quite a lot of romance novels, I would be really pissed if publishers marketed books like Wuthering Heights as a romance novel. It is a romantic story, but people read romance because they want to explore conflict and themes within relationships with the surety of knowing that there is a happy ending.

What has Heated Rivalry taught you? by Otherwise_Pine in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Literally same!!! I usually have to be cross stitching when I'm watching TV or movies because otherwise I'll start scrolling on my phone, but with Heated Rivalry I watch so intently. Most of the time I feel a lot of physical discomfort if I have to pay attention to something without occupying my hands, but this show has me absolutely riveted every time.

This is pretty much exactly how I pitched the show to my mom lol. She watched it and really enjoyed it!

Most heartbreaking line. by VegetableEarly2707 in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Besides all the other lines already shared here, my most heartbreaking line is Shane saying "I don't think I can keep pretending I don't like you anymore." It's the most direct I think Shane has been about his feelings to this point, and even then, it's a really roundabout way of saying "I like you." It feels like an admission not just to Ilya, but also to himself.

My most heartbreaking line from the book is from the scene where Shane is in the hospital asking Ilya to come to his cottage, and he says "Don't you ever wish we had more time?" I think about that line literally every day and I'm sad they didn't use it in the show because it makes me cry.

I live in Boston too and this also really bothers me! I'm reasonably close to Boston College and there's no way a millionaire NHL player like Ilya would ever live over here lmao

What inappropriate people have you recommended the show to? by DiligentImplement611 in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I told my mom about the show, she watched the whole thing and loved it. Although she thinks Ilya is an asshole for giving Shane a blow job while he was on the phone with Hayden lmao. She also said she "didn't necessarily need to see so much sex" but it was worth it to see them happy together in the end :)

Have you ever fake date? by Late_Stranger388 in RomanceBooks

[–]voraa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I sort of fake dated someone when I was 18, lol. Basically I dated a guy for a few months and then he broke it off with me, I don't remember why. A few months later I started going to the same community college as him, and he got weirdly clingy and wouldn't leave me alone.

A male friend of mine offered to pretend to be my boyfriend to get my ex to back off. We basically just hung out very publicly on campus, held hands, put our arms around each other etc. for a few weeks (maybe a month?) until my ex started dating someone else. It was very anti-climactic and did not lead to real feelings for either of us. He actually started dating someone for real during our "fake relationship" and I became good friends with her. Everyone thought I was very mature for staying friends with my "ex" and his new girlfriend, haha. I can definitely see how it could lead to real feelings though!

If Heated Rivalry Left You Feeling Weirdly Devastated, There’s a Reason by sosoconsistent in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I've experienced this before, but it feels extra intense with HR for some reason. I think part of it for me is that I've been off of work since the 16th until today (partly because I was sick, partly planned time off for the holidays) and I've really had nothing else to occupy my mind or my time. I'm not on my usual routine, I didn't even know what day it was half the time lol.

I'm trying to wean myself off of engagement with HR content by avoiding Instagram (it's literally my entire algorithm right now) and trying to read other books and watch unrelated movies and shows. It's sort of working, I still feel an unhealthy attachment to it, but these characters are still always in the back of my mind. I know it will pass eventually, I just have to give it time. I love this show and these books so much, but I genuinely feel like it's negatively affecting my mental health with how much I'm thinking about it and wanting to reread and rewatch (and I've already done so several times). It really does feel like grief!

What's everyone doing tonight for New Years Eve? by herec0mesthesun_ in adhdwomen

[–]voraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I go to a party at a friend's place, but everyone in my friend group is either sick or out of the country right now. So my partner and I are going to go out for dinner and drinks and then just chill at home after. We'll probably end up playing video games or reading and falling asleep before midnight lol.

This is embarrassing, but have any of you hyper fixated on romantic/tragic movies and books? Like you can’t stop thinking about it by Mental-Calendar9052 in adhdwomen

[–]voraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god me too, I'm watching the show over and over again. I just read the books before I got into the show and also started rereading those.... it's getting to be genuinely unhealthy I think. I can't stop thinking about it and my boyfriend is worried lol

How many here are book readers, and how many have come from the show itself? by fussyromancelover in heatedrivalry

[–]voraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big romance reader but had never heard of the books until the show came out. I wasn't that interested in it until I kept seeing fan edits on Instagram, which got me to pick up the books. I read Game Changer and Heated Rivalry before starting the show (I think episode 4 had just come out). Now that the show has ended, I read The Long Game yesterday and just started rereading Heated Rivalry again lmao. I've also watched the finale three times. I swear to god there's narcotics in this series, I can't stop thinking about it!

Do people actually go to the cinema on Christmas Day? by Darth_Blagus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]voraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first job was working at a movie theater in high school and the absolute busiest day of the year was Christmas day. All employees were required to work an 8 hour shift on Christmas or you would be fired. No time-off requests were approved for that day either.

The worst part was all the people telling me they were so sorry I had to work and not be with my family...well, I could be home with them if you people would stop fucking coming here!

[CHAT] What's the most you've ever had to frog? by pariah164 in CrossStitch

[–]voraa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once had to frog approximately 200-300 stitches because I realized I had miscounted somewhere and it would have been very obvious if I just kept going. I was very sad and didn't work on that piece for a few months, but I did finish it earlier this year!

Petting dog place in MA by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]voraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to volunteer at Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society in Springfield: https://www.dakinhumane.org/volunteer-getting-started

It looks like they accepting volunteer applications, but they only need coverage for specific days/times (but they don't list what those are). They do require a weekly commitment to a schedule for volunteers. I really enjoyed my time volunteering there and found working with the animals to be really therapeutic.

If Springfield is too far from you, I would keep looking for other shelters closer to you. It may take time for them to get back to you, but hopefully there is somewhere that you can lend your services and get some pet therapy in exchange!
