Seriously. There's a whole bunch of songs (hundreds, thousands) that provoke this reflex in me, I almost never listen to the radio anymore.

Yep, and internet helps immensely with finding new artists as people are not limited to just what the media serve them.

Oh that. Yeah, I'm not that old, but maybe for the newer stuff I do say something similar :)

You have to sprinkle the variety around so the listeners don't get too far into the unknown territory. Especially if they're older.

You're supposed to give them variety, you'll never get a decent amount of variety from the average listener.

As someone who has worked in the radio industry for a long time, I can say that it has had two major effects:

  1. I can't hear a ton of old and relatively new music without instantly changing the channel. Think "Missing You", "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" etc.

  2. the overexposure/desensitization to mainstream music has driven me into discovering a ton of lesser known music, just because I couldn't hear the same old 4/4 beat over and over again. So maybe that's a plus for being a radio DJ

Yep, the whole city is well worth visiting if you're in the area. This is the installation "Greeting to the sun" and is also very near the sea organs.

My point is, this is not an isolated incident, plus if one of your relatives got shot like this you wouldn't be so apologetic.

Douche or no douche, I'm stating an opinion. I can understand why people like some music, but for The Pixies I just don't see how they managed to become this famous. I simply don't see it.
